Good business, no guarantees of promotion and if the reported fees are true then we've done well.

We move on, with Sam still at the club

It's good business from the club and suits the way lower league clubs need to survive.

We took him for free off Herne Bay and sold him for millions.

Totally right Nick, we are just a cog in the whole football machine, driven by the disproportionate income the top teams get.

We are where we are and are currently a feeder for teams like Norwich, who then become a feeder for the larger Premier league teams.

It sucks but it’s always been that way in football, and I just can’t get my head round the frothing off some people. (Not on this site but on platforms like Facebook)

Hopefully one day we will be the higher team and will be able to buy talent off lower league clubs, but even when we were in the top league people forget we sold players to the bigger clubs eg) Terry Gibson, Robbie Keane etc

don't mention selling Gibson, I'm still not over it.

Good luck to the lad. Hope it works out for him. Think the loan back will prove a shrewd move also.

I agree about the loan. People trying to draw comparisons with the Maddison loan which wasn't a success but that front line had started to lose its potency and fluidity even before his transfer. Different circumstances this time.

Fair play to the lad. He stepped up, worked hard, showed his class. Deserves a shot at the big time, and hopefully gets a promotion on his CV this season too.

Do you remember he got death threats sent to his home.....mental
Really?!? Ridiculous.

I sometimes wonder the way it turned out. Guess we got Pickering in off the back of it (would we have won the cup without him?) but all we missed the next season was a goalscorer... not that he ever scored as frequently again after leaving us!

That's a good deal. In our current situation i've no issues with being a stepping stone club. Also, it continues to demonstrate to all talented youngsters that if they come to us, they'll not only get plenty of game time but also, if they are good enough, will be allowed to move onto bigger things. We continue to survive and reinvest.

that move actually worked out! Gibson never really did it at United though he won the cup with Wimbledon so fair play to him.

Same when Ian Wallace went. Never worked out for him either.

Pretty sure he got the threats just before he left, but also a few months before when it was reported he was unsettled.

Who would have thought the team he left Coventry, and the team he went on to join, Wimbledon would win the cup in those few years, whilst united won nothing.

it failed spectacularly for Wallace.
I have a recollection he ended up at Sunderland and played for them in the Milk Cup final when they lost to Norwich.....coincidently the same year we sent Norwich down when we won the last three games to stay up (ending with the 4-1 against The champions Everton)
