Hmm it is a big gamble. I think if it pays off it will be worth it, if it doesn't then it won't!

If we do give him 1k a goal though and we have to pay him 25 or 30k at the end of the season I won't be too sad about it.

Although I think he would be a good signing I think he should be on a lower basic with the bonuses to make him want to score, want to get fit and want to behave.

Why ? If I was convicted of a crime of this nature I would never be able to work in IT again. He's had every chance in his life and blown it, I've no symapthy for him, and don't want him here.

if he is gonna be on a reported 10 grand a week surely they could spend that little bit extra with westwood as well

Not sure how much Doyle is on (reputedly our biggest wage earner) BUT if it came down to a staight(ish) choice between Doyle and King , well goodbye Doyler.

10k a week? Pathetic, terrible and could be better used!!

I've said it before, i'll say it again, hasn't played in a year, 8 goals in 3 years! We want to give 10k a week to a goalscorer that hasn't hit double-figures since 07/08. And as for this he'll grab 20 goals rubbish...can i just remind you he's only ever done that ONCE!

Certainly doesn't deserve 10k a week, and tbh i don't think he's worth the time of day. Waste of space off the field, and probably set to become a waste of space on the Ricoh pitch.

I'd rather give that extra 10k a week to Westwood if it keeps him here!!

6 goals in 3 games without King.....it would probably have been less with him.

TBF mate, i think you're probably one of the fans that just sits there at the game constantly monaing about the club and how we don't sign good enough players. And then when we have a great oppertunity to sign a class player in Marlon King you complain. And wha was with that quote. "He's not worth the time of day". wat? are you going to mae love to him?

Actually, if you ever saw some of my posts on CET forum you'd know full well i'm a passionate Coventry fan that loves the club and doesn't want to see the reputation of the side ruined.
I'm one of those that thinks Freddy puts in one hell of a shift, one of the ones that thinks we're a good side that just need to play well together. Carsley's not too old, Jukebox has plenty of experience, Doyler puts in a shift and does a job, and oh yeah....i was ALWAYS wanting McSheffrey back. And oh, wasn't i saying somewhere in that post that we've scored 6 goals in 3 games without him.....i don't think a negative fan would be mentioning a positive like that!!!!

Please before trying to brand me take some to read through my posts and get to know the full picture. You don't seem to have any real point to your post except for trying to tarnish my remarks that are factually correct. King....class player? Sorry but i'm not buying it. The guy was a total waste of space in the Premiership and he only banged in 20 in a season once, and that was 5 years ago for goodness sake. 8 goals in 3 years doesn't scream class to me. Why risk the club reputation and togetherness of the club and it's fans on a clown that thinks he's worth 10k a week yet has a goalscoring record that in recent times is not even as good as the likes of Morrison that we got rid of.

And come on, what are you talking about with the make love to him comment? What a truly silly remark. Clearly it means he's not worth it....to put it simply, that's all.

If you want to come back with some sort of factual debate then please do so, but random remarks calling me a moaner just because i don't want to see a criminal at this club that's not actually as good of a footballer as some seem to think he is is petty, silly and something i'd expect from the average 15-year-old.

i dont want him at our club i think him on that wage will create tension in the dressing room, hes not worth it he wont be match fit and i dont rate him highly anyway. The money would be far better spent elsewhere

As I've said all along I'm just going to let Aidy decide on this one - I normally have an opinion on all things CCFC but I'm 100% on the fence on this one... if he comes I will back him and if he doesn't then well good luck to him wherever he goes and I'm sure if he doesn't come we'll have a few songs to sing at him for a good afternoon's banter :D

I have some sympathy with this opinion, but doesn't everyone deserve a second chance. 'To err is human, to forgive is divine' or some such profound quote. I'm sure plenty will forgive him if he does sign and scores for fun!!

One things for sure.
If he misses a few chances the fans will be on his back a lot quicker then if it was your average striker.

And i'll make my mind up in a month or so.

To all the people dismissing him because of his private life, please get over it.

Let's break it down. What is a football club? It's a business. A successful business bases itself on substance, not style. A footballer's job is to play football, not to be an ideal role model for children. If that was the case, Real Madrid wouldn't be paying £80mil for a player who spends most of his time rolling on the floor, cheating. King has been convicted, tried and has served time for his actions. What the hell is the point in this time consuming series of events, if at the end of it, the purpose has not been achieved. People are sent to prison, not just as a punishment, but as a way of giving them time to right their wrongs, and leave with a clean slate and to revive their prospects. This should mean that King should be given a second chance, until he offends again, in which case he wouldn't have learnt his lesson, and doesn't deserve another chance. Hearing his interview on SSN, and what Aidy and Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan have said about him, the cases of which he has been convicted for have been blown out of all proportion. At the end of the day, you guys are believing what you are hearing in the papers, which quite frankly is pathetic. Do you believe everything you read in the papers? No. This is no exception.

You don't know Marlon King. Aidy Boothroyd does know Marlon King. So if Aidy signs him, he will be absolutely certain that King has changed, as if this goes wrong for him, his job is on the line. There gives me significant confidence in Boothroyd's faith in King.

When all is said and done, we are getting a player who is very highly rated in footballing terms, and a player in which a big Premier League club payed £5mil for a couple of seasons ago, and who, under the very manager we are under now, lead his side to promotion banging goals in consistently all season, for a club who weren't expected to reach anywhere near the heights they did. That reminds me a lot of us.

You can bang on all you like about his private life, I couldn't give a flying duck. The only thing I'm bothered about is whether or not he scores goals. I support a football club, the main aim of this club is to win games. You win games by scoring goals. You score goals by putting together a team full of players with ability.
None of the above have anything to do with their private life. As long as he is focussed on Coventry City in working hours, he can beat up as many women as he likes in his spare time as long as he separates the two.

Let's face it, if he is sat on 30 goals come May, nobody will be complaining. And for this to happen, one chance is all he needs.

enjoyed and aggreed with this "until this quote". I want him too come and i am only interested in what he can do on the pitch for us, i am sure like you Aidy wouldn't bring him if he thought it would upset or disrupte the dressing room. However please dont be saying your happy if he beats women up in his spare time!!

He should be given a 2 month trial i feel see what he can do then decide dont think he should be given a contract right away as he should have to earn it first.;)

I agree with that.

He could also have a Pay as you Play with a crap basic to let him live (400-500 a week for his food) and then pay him the bulk if he plays and then some more if he scores. That will get him motivated!

I agree that everyone should be given a 2nd chance, but hasn't he been given that already?

£10,000 a week is what the Blackpool players have reportedly been capped at, and yet people would be happy to pay King this much? He's unproven since he's been in jail and I agree with Nick, give him a low basic with agreed bonuses for appearances or maybe even goals, because after all that's what we want him for...

Personally I'd like to see any extra money go to Westwood so we can keep him here...

I may have missed points entirely but I'm knackered

The thing is though @smileycov, we will still be talking about it if the deal is signed or not, because people are going to have different views on Marlon, as they do with every player.

if we sign him i think it will prove to be a great signing and I for one cant wait to see Marlon King in a city shirt, i think he is a very good player and a proven goalscorer at championship level.

Sorry guys but I totally disagree with your suggestions unless you want to ensure that he never plays for us.

If we start offering terms like a 2 month trial and a crap basic wage then we may as well not bother as I'm pretty sure Nuneaton Borough could open with a better offer than that or do you honestly think that we will be the only club chasing him???!!!

An offer like you suggest basically says that we don't really think that he is up to the job anymore and it is up to him to prove it to us that he is before we will even considering offering him anything near to his true worth!!! I think that not only Marlon but also his wife and his agent may have one or two choice phrases to offer in your direction in that case

Also this whole bonus for goals idea. This only works when a player is already well rewarded and this is just a little extra thank you for a job well done. When you start making it it a way of merely raising his wages up above a mere subsistence level then just imagine if he finds himself in a position where he is in a bad position to take a shot and could pass to a team mate who is in a much better position to score but he's thinking "No I must try and score myself as Christmas is just around the corner and the kids have already got a list as long as your arm...etc., etc.," I think when you revisit the idea guys you will see that it is ultimately counter-productive.

Sorry guys but your negotiations sound less like motivation and more like a "Work in the Community" extension to his original sentence. For those of us fans who trust Aidy's judgement and would love to see Marlon playing for us lets just be thankful that it is Aidy and Ray who are in charge of those negotiations and...with all due respect...not you guys:p;)

Gotta say as we are in the real world I agree with Dublinskyblue, obviously in an ideal world he'd be on low wages to prove himself but it's just not going to happen that way, he won't come unless he's amongst the top earners at City if not the top earner.

Worth every penny if he notches 15-20 goals for us this season. He has done time and will have learnt his lessonm for gods sake give the boy a chance, he's paid his debt to society inside prison!
