Time to rebuild Hadrians Wall! (1 Viewer)

Too early to say! It doesn't appear to be particularly easy to pass from person to person, and the number of deaths (25) in China is still pretty low. 6000 people have died in USA from seasonal flu this winter.
All those tested so far in UK are negative. There WILL be some positive people arrive here, but the vast majority will be students, and they will be otherwise healthy so will probably recover.
There are now no direct flights from Wuhan to the UK (as i understand it), but that may mean that people travel within China to other airports so we need to be vigilant to any flight from China.

I work with a girl whose husband's family are from Wuhan so she has been showing me loads of videos doing the rounds there (anyone seen the one with the person in a box?).

There does need to be a bit of context because Wuhan is a city of 11 million people so if it was completely viral then you'd expect a lot more confirmed cases and more than 26 dead.

It appears China was quite quick on this one, unlike SARS, where they didn't want to spread fear.

Problem is Chinese New Year is usually the biggest migration of people moving around the country which could mean that this is spread across different cities.

These are absolutely the key points, well-put!
Only error, i'd just point out that n-CoV is most definitely "viral" :shamefullyembarrased:

But i wish people would stop referring to it as "deadly". The deaths that have occurred have been in those groups who you might expect to succumb to complications from influenza. There is NO WAY (at this stage) that they can infer a mortality rate of 3%!
It is an emergency in China, and specifically Wuhan, but not globally (yet) - as confirmed by WHO yesterday.

What video is that?

Yeah wrong word.

Think I was pretending I was young and using viral in the context of social media where it ‘spreads extremely quickly’ rather than the proper use of the word.

I imagine Australia are having a bit of a squeaky bum time at the moment.

Their international student intake begins in February and thousands of Chinese students will be going to enrol so it will be interesting to see how they handle it.

Quite a few UK Universities have a January intake as well so there is also a concern here (one of the people quarantined in Scotland is a Chinese student) so it is going to be interesting to see how this evolves.

Less than 30 dead from a population of well over a billion.

Concerning but the reaction is incredibly ridiculous... A vaccine could take up to a year to pass tests etc

I'd like to think the NHS will be better able to treat people than whatever is available to the majority of the population in China too. The tabloids aren't going to miss the opportunity to wank themselves into a frenzy and portray this as the start of 'Outbreak' or something though.

There's obviously absolutely nothing going on in the UK at the moment worth covering . The four horsemen are on the horizon while London goes about it's daily stabbing routines without so much of a mention . An outbreak of foot and mouth wouldn't get this coverage.

Rebuild Hadrians Wall, why? Have lots of Scottish people contracted it?

People wearing kilts are more susceptible.
