It’s in the job spec of most, but hardly any can do it with any success. Robins can and has and has put together a team with a shot at 2 promotions in 3 years plus a cup win.

Honestly- what more do you want from the guy?

I'm guessing he wants hoof ball with Kevin Kyle and Leon Mckenzie up front, and Jamie Scowcroft on the wing.

Or maybe Robins could sign Darius Henderson and Peter Ramage in this window.

Or, just a thought, maybe he could continue playing attractive football that has us genuine title contenders, having lost fewer games so far this season than all but one team in the entire football league.

Tough one.

Honestly the mind boggles sometimes.

I am not sure “hardly any can do it with any success” is true. If you have said it is part of the job spec and only a few are successful, does that mean quite a lot are unsuccessful and will be losing their jobs soon?

Perfectly put.

This thread is going round in circles.

Is there a manager operating at our level that you would rather have now than Robins?

Yes or no.

If no, the conversation has reached a natural conclusion.

Now this one is stupendously naive. But I’ll humour you. So far this season 30 managers have been sacked, that’s about 30% all managers. And there will be more- so yep, same as every other season, surely you knew that? It’s also partly why Mark Robins is already one of the longest serving managers in the division- 5th longest I think after Wycombe (top 6), Burton (top 8), Rotherham (top 6) and Accrington (got promoted up and doing amazing to even compete). Spot the trend here? If you’re good you keep your job, if you’re not then you don’t. Hundreds upon hundreds of managers have had a crack in just the last decade, only a few can do it, and we have one that has proven he can indeed do it.

But it’s still not enough for you.

I’ve been asking this all day, they will not or cannot answer. They just keep picking holes in what Robins is doing and banging on about Adams and Pressley.

I have not said Robins isn’t the best man for the job atm?

What I have said is that clearly regardless of how the above wants to phrase it he has had money to spend and that 8th in the Championship is a better achievement than 6th in League 2 - I don’t think anyone can disagree with these points

Hmm so the other 70% are successful enough to keep their jobs after half the season? You said only a small percentage can do it with success. I would say Ainsworth has done it better than Robins

Yes they can, because it’s clearly not true. If Adams was as monumental as you think he was then he’d still be with us, but he’s not because he failed and had very narrow ability.

8th in the Championship is not a better achievement than 6th in League Two - right

And Robins has had no money to spend despite paying the largest fee since 2008 - right

So at last we get an answer- you would right now take Gareth Ainsworth over Mark Robins. One promotion in 7 years. The manager of the team we recently trounced and who played horrible football.

What is your grudge against Robins?

As for the rest- not everyone can afford to pay people off and not every club has the same definition of success- some are perfectly happy in 20th place. Your argument is facile.

No that’s not what I said. You’re awfully bad at projecting like someone said earlier

Robins has 1 promotion in 7 years? The same as Ainsworth? And they’re above us this season? You’re describing Robins

You’re saying Micky Adams was a better manager for us because he got us to 8th in the Chanpionship once. He was sacked shortly after having blown millions on donkeys, but you still put him higher.

And it doesn’t seem to be sinking in so I’ll try again- if Robins doesn’t sell his most valuable assets he gets no money. He is self funding and doing a brilliant job at it. That’s a pivotal part of management, and the difference between him and Adams on transfers is immense.

But whatever- you’re clearly not going to move- you would rather have Gareth Ainsworths muscleman football and hope for one promotion in 7 yrs compared to attractive football and a shot at 2 promotions in 3 years- all it shows is that for whatever bizarre reason you just don’t like or rate Robins and feel the need to denigrate what he’s doing.

You must be trolling at this point. Wycombe are ABOVE us

I presume Robins declined to use any of the £2.5m from the Maddison sell on which he had nothing to do with as he only uses money from players he sells?

And Robins himself has said if Wilson moves on he would be able to sign some players? So what are you even talking about?

Yet they are above us this season

Well he’s had 7 years practice to be 3 points ahead with us having a game in hand. What a piece of evidence that is, wow.

I’m done with this- your dislike of Mark Robins and refusal to give him credit, and the fact you’d take Gareth Ainsworth over him is just weird and very petty. I don’t know what you’re looking for in a manager (seems to involve hoofing the ball 80 yards for 90 mins) but you need to take in what you’re seeing- we haven’t had this for decades and instead of running the guy down you should appreciate what we have & how close this guy is to doing something only one person has ever done before for us.

And stop with the ‘Micky Adams is god’ stuff, it’s really silly.

Like I just said- I get it, you just don’t like the man, Robins isn’t for you- whatever, I’m done with all this stupidity- you don’t have a single iota of the significance of what our manager is doing.

I don’t like him because you fail to accept he has spent money?

At the risk of making sense...we’ve done nothing so far but put ourselves in a good position to challenge. Which, given the circumstances off the field, and the way we’ve played on it, is an achievement in itself.

However, no one can deny, that we can only judge this season based on where we FINISH it.

if you try and make an honest assessment of Robins time or aim any criticism at him you get ridiculous comments like you want the club to fail, it's pathetic.
I think Robins is fantastic for us and I love the style of play but you'd think he was Carlos Ancelotti the way some people go on.
I agree the taxi for Robins thread is over the top, but the man is a League one manager who, as you'd expect, makes mistakes and as paying fans we have every right to comment on them.

This is very true. I think it was Plymouth at home where changes were forced on him through injury, he brought Hutchison on and stumbled upon a winning formation, and we went on a decent run after that. Unless he had no choice Adams had one incredibly rigid and inflexible way of playing (based on toil, graft and strength), and he was completely unable to change or adapt. He even admits as much in his own book, which reads like it was penned by Mike Bassett with all the talk of grit, passion, determination, battling & the paucity of any focus on skill & tactics.
His book is awful, he's a very bitter man.

To be fair, he's had to sell to buy....
We sold bayliss and Chaplin and got godden using less than half the money.

Wycombe was a bad example to use, we’ll probably overtake them in the next couple of games.

Ainesworth has done a fantastic job with Wycombe - took several years to get promoted, does that take away from his achievements with Wycombe over the last 3 years?

One promotion and a cup win in 3 years with Coventry. His record at other clubs is irrelevant - in the here and now he’s doing a great job. He also had some pretty tough situations at the likes of Rotherham.

Am I missing something - did we win promotion under Micky Adams? Or perhaps a cup of some kind??

Why do threads like this descend into a farce due to same old negative peeps,

Robins is the best manager we’ve had since we’re relegated from the Premiership. There’s not really a case to be made against that.

We’re on course to finish in the Top 6 for only two times in the last 50-odd years. Both under Robins.

Doesn’t make him ‘the best’ manager we’ve had, Mowbray has had a long and successful career, Boothroyd is well thought of in the England setup, Coleman managed to get to the SF of the Euros, Micky Adams finished 8th in the Championship and even Slade did well at a few teams like Leyton Orient.

But, in terms of what Robins has achieved for Coventry City and in difficult circumstances, he’s without a doubt the best manager we’ve had since the Prem days.

Robins learned pretty early on that having very little funds was a long term thing. Instead of moaning and playing for survival, he raids non league teams for young players who are free or minimal fee and brings them through our system. We then have a conveyor belt of players coming through who are already accustomed to the teams ethos. As Darren Moore said about us the other day, we are a team 2 or 3 years in the making. Peterborough and Sunderland are examples that just spending money doesn't guarantee success in this division.
