Rubbish. We’re a bigger club than Bournemouth. Howe isn’t coming here and Robins isn’t going there

Not really rubbish is it, Sunderland with the correct manager would be going only one way... Barnsley will never go any further than championship strugglers

I'm also pretty sure we couldn't offer Eddie howe 80 million to get us to the Premier league

Long may it continue. One if not the only one thing the owners have got right during their incompetent tenure
Thankfully this blinkered point of view if slowly being silenced, I am not saying they haven’t made A LOT of mistakes however we could be a lot worse off.
Time to take a step back and realise that our situation was a result of a whole host of twats!

His win ratio is really impressive. I also think his loss ratio would be very good and would compare favourably with past City managers. We don’t seem to lose as many games with Robins.

Barnsley are above Sunderland in the league pyramid

I don't think it's sinking in.... Sunderland a bigger club with much bigger resources and a better chance of ever getting back to the promised land... Under the correct manager.

Barnsley will never get back to the Premier league

And we will? They’re far better resourced and stable than us

Agreed, but he's just turned Sunderland away so why would he go Barnsley... Is what I'm saying

Now if a Sheffield Wednesday or a Derby came calling then maybe it's goodbye

Of course we're not. Historically yes, but we were in the 4th division just a year or two ago and they've had a number of consecutive seasons in the top flight

They are bigger than us by some distance and will be for a long time

A manager wouldn’t leave a bottom half Premier League club for example Norwich or Bournemouth for Leeds because Leeds have been in the top 4 before and have the fanbase to do it again in the future

Well the Bristol manager went to Mansfield... A league below

Or a player

You don't think if Leeds came and offered Eddie howe a massive wage and a healthy transfer budget he wouldnt jump ship... With the club on the cusp of promotion and a chance to become a legend... Whilst Bournemouth look like going one way and Leeds the other... He'd be gone tomorrow

Would he? Are there any examples of this happening? I can’t remember one

Howard Wilkinson dropped down a division to become Sheffield Wednesday manager after managing Notts County a division above

If I really looked, I'd find a few... I can't be arsed

There’s one example in 1983 which is not really applicable to 2020 with the Premier League as we know it now

You asked for an example I gave you one in 30 seconds... Its neither here nor there... I don't think Robins would leave us for a Barnsley this time.
Turning away Sunderland would have been a much harder thing to do in my opinion, we will have to agree to disagree

Yes we will have to. I just don’t think that’s a major part of a players or managers thinking really, it’s all about the present situation and not the past imo :)

I know we all love to think our manager and players will stick with us no matter what but if a Barnsley or someone of that ilk came in for him he’d be off or at least giving it serious consideration

Jesus Christ

Not because I'm disagreeing with the reality but still...damn

It's a fact of life. Pretty much every club is a stepping stone in a player or managers career.

Whilst he is here, I will give him my full support, (as I do for all managers and players)

Wasn't it pretty much the same journey up? If he somehow gets us up again then he's on course to match what hill achieved surely
If he gets us promoted all the way into the top flight, provides sell-out entertainment and sets the whole of Coventry and Warwickshire alight with passion for CCFC, then yes.
I like Robins and he’s doing a good job with this team, but the Jimmy Hill era was something else entirely.

Very doubtful indeed, he'll still never have anything like the budget he's got at Bournemouth, nor the patience from fans. He couldn't do it at Burnley

Just like Leicester would never win the Premier League. Just like Bournemouth would never be in it.
Just like we would never be in the same league as Fleetwood.

So if he managed his entire career in the top flight he’d have the same ratio?

Hill and Robins never managed in the top flight

Is Dowie a better manager than Sillett? Is Robins?

No

But, we’re not in the top division so that’s a bit of a pedantic point to make.

Win % isn’t the be all and end all, but it’s suggestive of success. Which Robins has been, a promotion in his first full season, then 8th in L1 and now we’re 3rd in the new year with the least amount loses in the league. Clearly, the club is moving in the right direction under Robins’ stewardship.

I agree credit where it’s due but he can’t be compared to managers in the top flight as it’s a very different circumstance

Indeed it is - at this level our 'name' is a bigger draw than it ever was in the top flight but we had a larger budget at that time to accommodate transfer fees and wages. Plus there were plenty of times we had a squad/budget which should have performed better than it did because 'it's Cov innit' - staying up was seen as the requirement and once that was achieved the intensity died down as they'd done what was expected.

I think that one of the most remarkable aspects of Robins achievements as manager of CCFC is that he’s had to do it without the luxury of having what Jimmy had. Everyone including the owners pulling in the same direction with a clear focus and goal. On that basis you could argue that Robins is achieving more than Jimmy, relatively speaking.

That's a fair assessment.

I wonder if Mark Robins fancies being a TV pundit.
