Ponticelli - Call the poor guy back now (1 Viewer)

3 league goals.
I stand corrected. But ultimately the question is why is he not getting minutes? He’s obviously not doing something in training to merit getting picked - maybe suggest attitude?

I call it the Adam LeFondre syndrome - scores goals wherever he went but for some reason he never stuck around

He's just not that good and comparing him with ALF is laughable

I didn’t compare his ability -I’m just saying that whilst ALF scores goals everywhere there was something not right he became nomadic - always mystified me he did
He played nearly 100 games each for 3 clubs then had a few loan spells late in his career. Bit of a journeyman but no Leon Clarke, I think he was one of those strikers not quite Championship level

6th best striker in the premier league

Just because he is a local lad that replies to fans on social media doesn't make him a great player.

If he cannot get into Tranmeres team who will be looking to stay up this season, why would he get into our team?

League 2 at best.

Tranmere obviously watched him play before deciding to offer him a loan period - Why give him 45 mins in 4 or 5 months it borders on disrespectful - He may or may not be good enough to make the step to league football but if you take a guy out of his family environment to live miles away in Tranmere give the guy a chance to impress - If he had stayed at Cov no doubt he would be banging goals in the U23 - everyone but be then screaming to give him a chance in our first team -

He’s a natural finisher who will get goals if he’s given the chance. He never got a run of games in league 2 as the pressure was on for getting promotion and McNulty hit form. He’d have done as well as Baka and Chaplin last season in terms of goals but Robins clearly doesn’t see it in him.

Fuck sake, he's 21 and it's 2 hours away from Cov.

Professional football managers who watch him train week in week out know better than us. If he cannot get into Tranmere's team why would he suit us?

Would assume he will move on in January. As has been said multiple times, he would be getting minutes at Tranmere if he was good enough. I even think league 2 is a bit ambitious, top end conference would be about the right level and see if he can get a promotion under his belt.

To put into context - Robins believes Baka is a better player than Ponticelli.

I think Robins has earned our trust on this one

Professional managers are not always correct and many times are wrong about a player - The player has to fit into the style of play of that manager which is decided before he joins as they would have watched him previously and also fit into the new area he is suddenly living in - The way it should work is that you either stay with your permanent club and fight for a place in the first team by good showings in the U23 or playing in the likes of the EFl cup or go out on loan and show up well with your loan club. Loans can accelerate your development into your permanent clubs, first team, on your return - However you do not expect to just attend training sessions and I would not have thought Cov city who handed Ponticelli a 4-year contract and paying majority of his wages to be developing his trade in training sessions as they may as well kept him at Ryton

League 2 at best.

Because we're a team who's missing piece is someone to stick the plethora of chances we get in the net. Tranmere are scrapping away and just looking to create the odd chance to nick a win after defending for the entire game.

Two entirely different scenarios requiring different types of player.

Just because he supports the club does not mean we should throw him in the starting 11. I have never understood the love in we have with him. He is not good enough for this current team and should be released at the end of the season so he can go find more minutes elsewhere to help his development.

I'd like for him to be put into the U23's on his return to get some match sharpness back - he'd have been better off here than at Tranmere cos at least he'd have had U23 games here.

But I reckon MR will look to ship him out again.

But you're right about managers not necessarily being correct - sometimes they just don't like the look of a player even though they later go on to do very well elsewhere. Similarly there are players that are picked week in/week out despite the fans struggling to see what they bring to the team.

Why? He's not eligible to play against us. And the game is on January 1st.
Which is also when his loan ends.

"Coventry City striker Jordan Ponticelli has joined Tranmere Rovers on loan.

Ponticelli joins fellow League One side Rovers initially until 1st January 2020.

Jordan will not be eligible to play for Tranmere against Coventry City".

Disagree completely, he's not even in the same league as Chaplin literally

He’s never had a run of games since he was 18. We’ve only seen bits of him since then so perhaps the view is a bit judgemental from some on here.
Not easy for a striker to shine at certain clubs and Tranmere’s style must be a nightmare for a touch type finisher ... which is what I think he could be.
I wouldn’t want to lose him just yet because he could well be one of those who comes back and bites us on the arse in a Collins kind of way.
I think a run in a top half conference side would be the answer and if he doesn’t show up there then we’ll have more of an idea.

Notts county could be a good fit for him

Perfect I would say.
I live in Torquay and attend quite a few home games . You get a hell of a lot of chances at that level and any striker worth his salt is going to thrive on it.

I think the point was bring him back so he could play for US against THEM - fired up and ready to prove them wrong.
Weird suggestion, but in that case, the same question - why? If/when he returns he will at best be 5th (probably 6th) choice striker now they are all fit.

Because he'd be so fired up to perform and score against them to prove them wrong and also to prove to us he's worthy of game time so he can actually play some football.

But he’s not very good

Don’t know what people expect. He can’t hang around in our U23’s until retirement. Not good enough, get rid, end of.

He hasn’t though

Really? So he didn't put chances in the net when playing for our U18's? Or when he's played for the U23's? Or have a good goal per minute ratio in our first team on limited appearances and time as a sub? When exactly has he consistently failed to score when playing?
