How do you know?
Because Frank Worthington went from Leicester to talks with Birmingham with big ideas about boosting his salary. Jim got the whisky out and just talked football. Frank woke up next day signed for Birmingham on less money than he was on at Leicester.

Jim Smith always did Strachan tactically

Was an extremely poor decision to bring him here in 2002. His best years were behind him & he was also responsible for bringing other ex Derby has beens with him in Trollope and Carbonari, who hindered rather than helped our cause. His appointment completely undermined Nilsson's authority, and from being in the play offs we barely won another game that season.

Aside from us he had a decent career though, and I'm sure fans of Birmingham, Derby and Oxford will be remembering his happier days with them, and his memory will live on through those clubs. RIP.

Don’t forget Pompey! Took them to the brink of promotion and had an FA Cup semi-final which they narrowly lost to Liverpool in a replay.
Brought through players such as kit symons, Darren anderton, John Beresford etc. Bald Eagle!

I was in a four year relationship with a girl from South Yorkshire (late 1980's - early '90's) One of our friends was Jim Smith's nephew. I once asked him if his family referred to him as 'Bald Eagle' and his reply was, "No, we call him tight fisted bastard". Apparently, birthdays and Christmases would come and go with not a hint of a gift from Uncle Jim!

Bit of a legend for the jobs he did at Oxford, Pompey, QPR and probably most memorably of all Derby: they had a great side for a few years who played good football gave us some really tough matches with the likes of Baiano, Eranio, Assanovic and Stimac. Definitely a good manager and a character. Unfortunately he was a bit past his prime and not at all what we needed when he came in-Roland was doing a decent job and the last thing he needed was his authority undermining-and he went on to prove himself a good manager. What we needed even less was Haracio Carbonari and Paul Trollope!

RIP Bald Eagle.

Sign of how we feel about the Villa when Ron Saunders passing doesn't get a mention.
I'll put my head above the parapet (seeing 40 years have passed) but his was a very good Championship winning side. Puts into context last night's game as they also had a great side to watch that season which came up just short. Was a tremendous battle that season between those 2 sides.

I don't think Ron Saunders ever had a Cov connection?
