More Wasps BS? (2 Viewers)

Yeah, was just going to post exactly that. The only local fans who stick by them appear to be middle aged women who aren't bothered about the outcome.

Seems to be people who get free tickets and want to take selfies of themselves and post them. Just go for the day out.

They lost £3m a year at Wycombe. Last year at the Ricoh they had underlying loss of £12m.

But it's OK as you "hope" eventually the "non rugby stuff" will sort it all out and they establish a foothold in the city.

What was the debt level like at High Wycombe?
The Ricoh has been around for a few years now - if it was going to be seen as the go to place for non-sporting occasions, it would have stamped it's mark by now surely? If it's just breaking even now, where is the evidence of hope that it will see it a better future attraction over say the NEC to host an event? Unfortunately for the City itself, it doesn't seem to have become the cash cow it was supposed to be.

There is a risk that if transient fans are aware of a lot of MILF going to WASPs it may increase crowds

Milfs you say??

......This guy who is part running the Henley Trust thing has done more in a couple of weeks, and got more on board that the SBTrust have done since Wasps arrived.....
Nice to see someone in a position of authority actually sticking up for the sporting institution he represents.

That's fine when it's all fanzones and fireworks that they're going out for but now they're cutting all that away how many people are going to be chasing the likes in a freezing cold empty stadium while some fat lads hug in the mud.

Exactly! Said it months ago that when they stop putting on fanzones and firework displays with free tickets nobody will give a shit, they will just go to a pub or do something else.

My brother worked for the NEC and these big stadium concerts are not as profitable as people think as the bands demand a lot of upfront cash to play plus a % of food and beverage revenue. CCC were always wanting a partner to develop the area hotels and other leisure facilities, once it was clear CCFC were never going to be a position to do this I'm sure they were hoping WASPS would and now its clear WASPs only want Cov for a stadium and potential fan base and won't be developing facilities in the Cov area. When you dine with the devil make sure you have a long spoon

Bobby's a good lad. Just doing his job, as his employers would want him to. He's not the bad guy.

Noticed that the article went on late one night and had gone from the front page the next day.

What's he done?
He’s frantically backtracking about the Henley petition and saying it’s not anything to do with wasps - they are 100% not to blame

Rather cryptic tweet from the Henley sports centre saying today is going to be brilliant....
Article out today on Cov Observer. Re-hash of last weeks one I think.
Hope they/he are on about something a little more juicy than that!! (Re-hashed article)

Yeah nothing else said. Disappointing.
Really do need to piss off now don't they. Looking at the Saracens game thread on twitter too.
Feel for their genuine fans of course, about time they moved back down south to them.

Apologies if posted before

Saw this for the first time.

1. The smug Ann Riley with Nick Eastwood smiling while defecating all over the club that she apparently cares for.

2. Nick Eastwood on the board of the group their buying the ground from? Is he local? Why would he be on the board? When did he join? All seems too convenient.

3. The sheer number of groups they are going to displace by doing this.

How can anyone in Coventry or within 20 miles support wasps? I know there will always be a stray wasp who ironically moved to cov before their favourite franchise rugby team did. But as a local to see them bulldoze their way into a city and thinking I'll have a bit of that you must be delusional or just desperate to get out the house on a Saturday! Wasps will go as fast as they came one day and will have no time for sentiment for any new fans they may have acquired along the way.

Just putting this out there!
In a meeting with Roger Bevan(WCG) and Steven Vaughan(Wasps) on 18/11/19, Mr Bevan when questioned on a possible conflict of interest in the proposed sale through Nick Eastwood(WCG Governor and Wasps Vice Chairman) responded by saying it was absolute nonsense! He went on to say that, Nick Eastwood had not been involved and indeed had declared his conflict of interest immediately and stepped away from the transaction.
In the very same meeting, Mr Bevan himself stated that the initial talks between WCG and Wasps had started at the end of June this year, and Wasps 1st visit to the site was on 2/7/19.
With this information in mind, please read the set of minutes from a WCG Board meeting held on 11/7/19. Please pay particular attention to those present, and more importantly, those declaring an interest, or not!

I noticed that " Knife Crime" was on the agenda, but no mention of stabbing all the users in the back.

I wonder if they know about the conflict of interest if they are just going off the Telegraph article ;)

I notice "it's all CCFC's fault" again. They really are thick as fuck.

WCG is an exempt charity the rules governing such an entity can be found here.

Exempt charities (CC23)

It isnt governed by the Charities Commission

An exempt charity has charitable status and is required to comply with charity law, but unlike other charities it:
  • cannot register with the Charity Commission (Commission)
  • is not directly regulated by the Commission and instead has (or will have) a principal regulator
  • may only be investigated by the Commission as part of a statutory inquiry at the request of its principal regulator
A charity is exempt if it is:
  • included in Schedule 3 to the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)
  • a common investment fund or a common deposit fund which is only open to exempt charities, or
  • made exempt by some other legislation

Specifically concerning land disposals though CC23 HM Gov states

Land disposals and mortgages
Exempt charities do not need authorisation from the Commission to dispose of land or obtain a mortgage.
But trustees of all exempt charities must:

  • fulfil their general trustee duties when dealing with land disposals and mortgages
  • include the statements required by the Charities Act in disposal and mortgage documents. Trustees should seek legal advice on these matters
Further more detailed guidance is in CC28 guidance. Which can be found going from the above link

It isnt clear cut. I fully understand why the local residents are upset.

Has it ever been registered as a community asset? Surely Sports England would insist on the pitches or facilities being replaced somewhere? Eastwood should not have been anywhere close to any of the discussions, if bright enough i am sure they should have found a plausible way round that problem both at WCG and Wasps (he would have a potential conflict of interest at both entities)

WCG financials can be found here

https://blob.wcg.ac.uk/pdf/wcg-accounts-2017-18-bce60cb5050eb2833535baeddb6da958.pdf

Core objectives would appear to be student education, not the provision of sports facilities to the general public, although i am sure that could be debated that sports training of kids is educational. But is that the core objectives of this exempt charity, if it isnt then that gives an out for WCG. The educational area of the site (the school) has already been sold for housing which would have required permission, did that permission extend to the whole site? The site was being run on a commercial not charitable basis, was it making money? if it wasnt is the best interests of the charity to retain it. Are the charity entitled or required to take the best monetary offer or the best social value

Why was Eastwood appointed governor in the first place and when?

Just giving a brief and superficial insight in to charity law - nothing more, and with that i will dip out of the discussion

Was it for sale or did wasps just happen to stumble across it without Eastwood knowing?

Have you let Bobby bridge know?

absolutely but they obviously believe they can turn it around, the one off payment will keep them going for a bit just like your player sales keep you afloat.
Have you players you can sell for nearly 50 million in the next couple of years?

Hi P&C, fascinating reading, one question from me. Do you think it's realistic that the Wasps end up playing at Alexander Stadium once the commonwealth games are done?
More chance of them becoming Henley Wasps the way things are going.
