I work with a tiny charity that manages to do it once every 30 seconds on average. It’s very ambitious but with climate change we have to be.

There's ambitious, then there's this. I'm not saying we can't plant x amount of trees. We should.

But to make this "promise" is another Labour Mathematical cock up I'm afraid.

Anyone arguing otherwise, is simply deluded. 3 per second, for 20 years straight. Really? If they said until 2100, it'd maybe have legs...

It’s certainly not a one man job. But then again I don’t think anyone is suggesting that it is.

It's actually incredible people are trying to find a way to do that amount just to defend this ludicrous promise.

What machinery do we have in today's technology that can plant 3 trees per second?

Apparently U.K. councils have chopped down 110,000 trees in the last 3 years and often because they simply don’t have a budget to maintain them.

So so patronising to the people that run this country. I raise two kids, have owned property, been married and divorced, started businesses and lead departments. What exactly do you think I’m missing before I unlock the enlightenment you have achieved?

People over 45 grew up with no internet, no climate change, free education, jobs for life, gold plated pensions, cheap housing, etc then have the cheek to pretend they know about “real life”.

Pathetic.
I'm 46,I'll retire when I'm 55. My pension pot should be knocking on for 7 figures then. Not bad for a thick uneducated idiot eh?
Back of the net.
Suck it up you whinging git.

The land isn't the issue? Its the physical time to do it.

3 per second, for 20 years straight.

Don't forget, will have to be done by hand otherwise it won't be eco-friendly...

1000 teams - 2 people per team. Plant a tree every minute for 7/8 hours a day.

2000 new jobs - that’s 480000 planted in a day. Have more people doing it... create more jobs and multiply up/ adjust the timings if it takes longer.
It’s a rudimentary calculation but doable if the infrastructure is there.

Do you support destruction of Greenbelt?

Why do you need a machine to plant a sapling? 3 men and 3 spades will do it. You seem to be working on the premise that that it’s going to be down to one single object that’s got to do this work solidly on its own over 20 years. You need to add a dose of reality to your thinking.

For someone that works in the sector, I find the so called tree planting policies ludicrous. Trees are part of the answer in tacking climate change (and not just carbon sequestration, but also biodiversity and flood management), and not the absolute fix as the idiot politicians seem to think.

Finding land to plant large areas of woodland is very difficult for a number of reasons e.g. land values for development, taking land out of food production.
Also, tree planting can be detrimental to biodiversity if woodland is created in areas where other priority habitats are more beneficial e.g. chalk grassland, heathland.

Number of trees per ha. - normally range from 1100- 1800 depending on the type of woodland being created, soil type and resource availability and species mix.

Any questions?

3 per second if they are done linearly one at a time. Obviously they won’t be.

Well no as the labour policy is to destroy the green environment - The sad whinging git Shmmeee is an advocate of the destruction of Greenbelt and that children don’t need to see a tree - guess that’s the socialist idyll

For economic reasons, trees are normally planted as whips and not of any size. Also most tree planting is done by hand.

I have access to land records for the country. How can I help find suitable land?

For the record, planting trees simply makes those who are pumping the atmosphere with CO2 feel better.

Even better he doesn't spend all his time posting to nobody on Twitter. Funny G for someone who calls others sneering snobs you sure do like to brag about salaries and whine about the underclass. Don't want to switch places?

Pound for pound it’s the best climate change defence we’ve got. I couldn’t give a shiny shite how people feel. We’ll need legislation. Those who are about the feels will be denying it anyway. The biggest problem the climate movement has is lack of action, it doesn’t need years deciding the perfect solution it needs action on multiple fronts because that’s how the human race surmounts it’s problems: lots of people being innovative until something works.

This forum seems to have a disproportionately high number of people who are absolutely loaded and planning to retire in their 50s. Why don't you all club together and buy the club and build us a new ground?

Hardly but if he started at JLR at 16 he’d be getting a million at 55 no question - pretty low paid manager I know started as an apprentice and is getting £1.4 million

Does that include ownership and current and historic use?

Environmental data such as soil type, agricultural grade, geology and flood risk (including flood manatassrts), conservation designation, environmental stewardship agreements, publicly available.

in the first instance it would worth contacting the Forestry Commission or the Woodland Trust. Also worth referring to local Biodiversity Action Plans.

I may have made the mistake of assuming this was a serious ish question. Ecologist hourly rates may apply

Know a few people n their 50s looking at leaving there in the next 2 or 3 years with similar deals.
Good luck to them.

Imagine that at the stroke of midnight you went from being not mature enough to vote to being mature enough? Now tell me, what did you learn in that nano second that you didn’t know at 20.

You do know that is precisely what happens when you turn 18 Tony???
