At what point are we allowed to start believing...... (1 Viewer)

So a third of the season gone, third place. Not too shabby. 4 points off autos (albeit more games played) but equally 4 points off 10th place.

At what stage of the season should we really start believing we could go up? Will it be just after the Jan transfer window? Mid march? or until its mathematically certain? Its quite easy as a Coventry fan to be pessimistic, but its also quite easy to get carried away. I will personally start to believe once Sunderland, Wycombe and Ipswich are out of the way.....and we get a good return.

To stand a chance we need to get a string of away wins going and soon. I think a positive run over Christmas and January will put us in good stead and that's the point I think I'd let myself believe we could keep it going.

We’ve been here too many times. I was reminded this morning that we were top of the league on this day (my birthday) four years ago.... which also meant this happened...

I was discussing the Colchester game with my dad the other day. Pre game I thought that was a guarenteed cup upset.

but after we won professionally, I said to my dad looking back - we were going to win. If we were any other fan we’d say Coventry will win.

we bemoan performances but we’ve been beaten 3 times in all comps this year, one to Watford and one we shouldn’t have lost.

taking that into account, were overestimating the league. We’re one of the better sides in the league and as fans we need to start believing in ourselves. The standard is crap but I’d describe us as “one of the shinier turds” in the league

Then the Mowbray effect and the Cole experiment kicked in

There’s still time, but it’s nicer topic than wondering if we’ve got what it takes to stay up, going back a few years

Different levels of belief for me.

I currently believe we are more than capable of finishing in the top 6. That for me should be minimum expectancy from this point. What happens after that is impossible to call.

As for auto promotion, I think we'd need to be in the top 2 for weeks and have a healthy gap to 3rd before I got excited about it.

If we go back to the Ricoh it may have a short term positive effect, which will help, but very important the pitch remains in good shape.
Of course, we need to get back to the Ricoh first and personally do not see that happening this season.

I'll start believing if it ever becomes a mathematical certainty, and only then. I've spent too many years as a fan of this club to get my hopes up too early in a season!

We haven't won away all season and only won a single game by 2 clear goals back in mid August. I feel we're fighting for 5th to 8th until we sort that out because I just can't believe we can keep on scraping enough wins when relying on the odd goal to win a game.

Have to agree we need to be scoring more & adding wins away to be serious...if we’re in the mix come Jan we need to add goals

I'd say April time unless we win every game and go loads of points clear.

It's going to be between a few teams for playoff spots I think.

I believe we can go up, though not that we will go up.
Lot of teams in the mix so small margins could decide. Definitely need to get an away win or two under our belts.

And we've only been a half fit turd for large parts of the season

I already believe we can go up.

Can being the key word, not will.

I've seen enough to know that we can beat anyone in this league and that there aren't many better than us. If we can start converting a few chances and/or sign a finisher in January then we'll be there or thereabouts MIO.
