Marosi 7. Decent. Punched a few he could have caught.

Dabo 7. Typically energetic. Important for us. Attitude and aggression.

Rose 7. Assured.
Hyam 7. Assured.
Drysdale 5. Shaky first half. Out paced. Decent second.

Mason 8. I actually prefer him to McCallum.

Eccles 6. Decent second half.
Westbrooke 7. Decent second half.
Walsh 10. One of the greatest City goals to win the match. Kept us ticking.
Shipley 6. Key goal. But I've seen him play much better.

Baka 4. Even the very best players miss these chances at times. Never stopped running. Not suited in the lone striker role. Let's get off his back whilst we wait the return of Godden and Max.

Sub: O'Hare 8. Decent cameo. Should have been on far earlier.

Robins 6. Found a way to win but would like to have seen the subs on after 60 minutes to go on the attack.

I agree other than Bakayoko - lamentable performance has to be the end for him and the slightly odd reference to marosi and Shipley and Westbrook an 8 each thought they were good all through the game

Agree with those ratings in the main. Eccles deserves a 7 I think, I was impressed with his composure and his physicality. Walsh wasn't great first half so I'd give him an 8.

Marosi - 7 excellent punching and safe hands from shots

Rose - 7.5 excellent
Hyam - 8 much better than Mcfazdean in the middle of the 3
Drysdale - 6 much much better after he got at excellent sliding tackle in first half
Mason - 7 excellent to have a couple of good players
Dabo - 7.5 really excellent second half. My favourite signing this season

Walsh - 8 what a goal!! Does get caught too often in possession. Probably tips mom from hyam
Shipley - 7 took his goal well and he’s a threat
Eccles - 7 really very good second half
Westbrook - 7.5 great energy always looking to make things happen and lovely assist

Baka - 4 bad miss but not one of our strikers had looked good on their own, including godden

ohare not on long enough

Robins- 8 fair play getting that performance from a team with the oldest player at 26. Baka only striker and not playing well or with any confidence. It doesn’t happen by chance guys. It happens with giving players confidence to play and keep playing.

Great win with7 first teamers out and Kelly missing last minute and McCallum out late in the week

I agree with you SSB. It's just that I can't recall a City player picking up the ball on half way and running past 6 players before burying it in the corner - as someone said earlier that was similar to the Maradona 86 goal. Also had elements of Owen, France 98 and even Ricky Villa, FA Cup. It was a sensational goal to win the match and for that alone I give Walsh a 10.

Did anyone see the 10 man pile-on on Walsh after the goal. Brilliant!!!!
Spirit of the team = 10.
And as Grendel I think said - the support from the stands in the second half - good stuff as well.

Agree with that as well. I just have a preference for keepers that catch vs. punch crosses - it's what I loved about Stockdale. But you are right Marosi was very decent again and he's been a great addition. Shipley always looks better to me when I see him live vs. on I-follow. Don't think that the tv cameras capture his energy around the pitch. So I'm happy to be corrected on that. Good to see Westbrooke getting more appreciation over the last few weeks as well.

Based on 2nd half only.

Marosi 6 - had very little to do.
Dabo 7
Rose 7
Hyam 7
Drysdale 7 - good debut.
Mason 7
Eccles 7 - thought he looked composed on the ball.
Westbrooke 7 - doesn't seem to anticipate things and a little flat footed,
Walsh 7
Shipley 7
Baka 5 - missed a sitter.

I'll defend that one ccfway if I can. First half, Drysdale terrible back pass which should have resulted in a certain goal. A couple of minutes later completely out of position and outpaced for Rochdale's first. I completely get it that Drysdale is a kid in one of his first games for us but I have to mark it on what I see.

I completely agree that he was decent after that and as a 19 year old kid he will have a future in the game.

Sorry to be a pedantic so and so but it was his birthday a few days ago. He’s 20 now

I thought Westbrook - who I’ve always thought was a trundled type of midfielder - was really good today. He was looking for movement he was energetic and good at distributing. Bit of a revelation to be honest.

Walsh in his correct position looks a cut above league one

Shipley in an advanced role is pretty good

Robins has a bit of a golden arm really - we were dire on the first half and he got away with it

the bottom line is we have a capable defence and midfield and probably as good as most teams

Conversely the forward line is trash. That’s going to be the Achilles heal in the end

How can O Hare possibly rate an 8. He only played a total of 6 minutes.

As he made a really positive contribution in his cameo role, changed our tempo, added pace and pressed Rochdale - not giving their defenders time to transition the ball forward. I judge subs on the influence they have on the game in the time they are on the pitch. Are you suggesting we mark O'Hare as a 1 based on the fact he only played 5 minutes?

Grendel it was all going so well and positive until the final line!
It's far too harsh.
Godden, Max and Jones are more than good enough as forwards in this division - particularly if they are supported by O'Hare in a number 10 role. So we have lots of hope - can't wait as an example to see Godden in a front two.
And very likely we will strengthen in the January window as well.

I've spent ages looking for one - it's heel, not heal!!

Other than that, I'm in the strange place of agreeing with much of what you've said above.

A winning performance from a team missing a number of influential/first-choice players, going back up to third. Happy days.

Marosi 7 not a lot to do

Dabo 7 I like him
Drysdale 7 seen in him u23,s half a dozen times and thought he’d make it in first team , played well overall today some really good passes , had bad 5 mins with dodgy back pass and getting caught out a bit for the goal
Hyam 7 his lack of was almost exposed couple of times first half
Rose 8 solid and noted was captain today
Mason 7 def a better player than macullum at the moment

Walsh 9 what goal
Eccles 6 got better as it went on
Westbrooke 8 great pass for first goal and ran his nuts off
Shipley 8 very under rated player

Baka 5

Great game from everyone minus baka. Westbrooke, dabo, walsh and mason were outstanding.
Agree with this but, I thought Hyam was immense too.

Lots of people saying don't be harsh on Baka, but he was simply woeful. Not just the miss, he was dreadful all round again. Poor movement, poor positioning, I'd honestly look to play like Spain did with a false 9 until our strikers return than field him again.

A lot of people blowing smoke up Walsh's arse. He didnt track back and follow his man in the run up to their goal and spent 89mins taking pointless 30yard pop shots high into the stand behind the goal. He makes one mazy run and scores the winner and boom, hes MOTM?!?! I dont get it. He was bang average for me today bar 1 moment of magic. Westbrooke was much better than him today.

I thought Walsh was impressive today, made a couple of mistakes which you'd expect at this level, but overall his range of passing was well above average and he thoroughly deserved his goal

Walsh has quality no doubt.

Up to the manager to get the best out of him.
