Labour Income Tax Calculator

Let’s you find out how much more income tax you’d be paying under Corbyn.
It’s not just income tax though.
If they increase corporation tax to 26% then it will kill a lot of small businesses many of whom probably earn less than a lot of teachers nurses and the like and most are certainly not guaranteed a decent pension when they retire.
Corporation tax is not just for big business and multi millionaires.

Same here. Its a disgrace.

Seems £80K is the point at which you start paying extra. For example earn £100K a year and you pay an extra £83 a month, but that still leaves you with a take home of over £5.4K a month.

It has been shown each time that reducing corporation tax increases investment. But look on the bright side. A 50% raise approximate at the same time as Brexit only leaves one thing to blame.

And don't expect a reply. That will be left for my comment as my post isn't what some want to see on this thread.

Have the American tax cuts under Trump achieved that? They've just blown an even bigger hole in their deficit, never mind debt, to send it over $1 trillion. Why put forward these arguments when we know that the mega wealthy will never end up paying the rate specified on paper?

So go after the bigger businesses that avoid tax. Don’t hammer the shit out of hundreds of thousands of small businesses by ramping up the corporation tax.
Like you say the big companies won’t pay it anyhow.
But I suppose they’ll glean some more support from the left and the unions by going after businesses full stop.

Isn’t corporation tax paid on profits not turnover?

I'm surprised you haven't noticed that America under Trump have started trade wars all over the world.

But no. You have a point to make.

So why has it been quiet on here today? Nothing to do with the lies that have been found out from Labour I read about this morning? Thought you would have been all over them as you like the truth to be told.

The hypocrisy on here is bad.

How can you moan about tax dodging companies yet defend the bloke with a top EU job that set up the tax dodging systems? How have still got lots more companies registered than residents?

Hold it hold it. Don't brink Juncker into this. Blah blah blah.

The tax calculator is an interesting one, I have always tried to look at the policies of the parties and tried to vote based on what I think would be best for the country as a result of those being implemented.

This has resulted in me changing my vote over the years, I don’t just allow myself to be wedded today a historical party because my family, city and myself have always done so.

The tax collector is also very clever as allows the majority to believe they won’t pay more tax under Labour and it’s just taxing what are perceived as rich, and many earning over 80k a year could be seen to be rich, I’m not sure those in Edinburgh and London would agree with me.

I cannot comment on the issues the tories have around Islam etc but I do have a friend who works for the Labour Party in marketing/press and for the last 18 months her role is to manage their situation and allegations within the party and to minimise poor coverage of that situation. I am not saying they have one, that is for investigations to prove or not just that her job is to manage the press around it.

Yes it is, so your average builder/plumber set up as at Ltd has say £50k profit in a year £40k of which is paid to him as dividends for his income, Labour come in and increase corporation tax to 26% and suddenly its £37k he's earning. Happy days!
Brighton Sky Blue you've just backed my argument for going after the correct tax on corporate companies instead of the small businessman. Thanks!

Corporation tax is not just for big business and multi millionaires.

1) We have one of the lowest corporation taxes in the world
2) Income you earn from your business is taxed as income not corporation tax, that’s paid on profit after wages and other costs.
3) Get a pension

The average salary in London is less than half that. If you earn double the average you are rich I’m afraid. And you can afford to pay *checks notes* £20/mo extra tax.

I used to take dividends when I had my own company. It’s tax efficient for sure, because corporation tax/tax on dividends is lower than income tax. But it shouldn’t be. Companies should be encouraged to pay good wages even for the owners, before it hoards profit IMO. Same as there was no good reason for me to be claiming half the stuff I did back against my tax (petrol, rent, utilities, etc) I think most of that is stopped now.

There’s plenty of reliefs for business that is investing in growth or R&D or needs to retain large profits for some genuine reason.

So if everyone cranks up their wage and gets rid of every penny in Corp tax the treasury will be worse off again. I've pointed out before, the issue with taxing business isn't the small business its the corporate avoidance. Tighten up on them instead as they'll pay the same amount irrespective of if its 10,19 or 26%.

Earning from his dividends. He’ll be paying himself a wage week in week out or month in month out.

Thats the probelms with it. Large companies just keep reinvesting for no other reason than to avoid tax and governments need to stop it.
Dividends are taxed now so there's hardly any difference between taking dividends and paying corp tax as opposed to paying a higher salary. Hiking up corp tax will have a negative effect all round except for Labours hard left union backers who'll love it.

My household has lost more than £20 per month in tax credits in recent times and our combined household income wouldn’t put us in the £80k tax bracket. People earning over £80k a year will have to do what people earning under £80K a year have to do when government policies take money of them. Suck it up. Snowflakes.

Been there. Income suddenly dropping by hundreds a month. Or a mistake meaning now we pay money each month. I earn too much to claim anything now, and though I don’t earn anything like enough to be hit by Labours plans for income tax, I still feel I could pay £20/mo more to improve the public sphere.

I would like to see a tax option on shares. If there is one then I would like to see it increased. It doesn't matter if business is U.K. based or not. If the company is trading within the U.K. then the share holders should be available to pay a tax on the profits for using the U.K. economy as a resource.

Definitely not an economist here but is it really an economic issue and more of a social issue of a fairer tax burden shared around between people and businesses to pay for better services.

I don't think this would affect many smaller businesses.
