Hopefully all the stars who are rested tonight will help us get the win at Watford.Gonna be tough though,i see Graham's got another couple of goals tonight. If we get the win though tonight will be forgotten.

And Mr.Marcus Hall's side didn't concede a goal today.

Tbh i think looking at the side we put out Aidy wasn't taking this competition very seriously. Still not nice to have lost though.

I never like to see us lose, but this is one of the easier defeats to take, the carling cup is a complete waste of time. This was pretty much a second string team out as well so it's really not that big a deal.

I feel for all that made trip there.. I have made similar trips and have seen our beloved Coventry loose to a lower league sides.. Not the first time and probably wont be the last.. Still doesn't make it any easier to swollow a defeat like that...:mad:

Just got back from the game, mixed feelings really. The CCFC fans can be proud because considering it is their first game in a new stadium and it's against Championship opposition, we completely outsang them pretty much all game and the standing up section in the away end was basically empty! Even at 2-0 up they didn't make a lot of noise. Points from the game:

Sam Allardyce was spotted in the car park of the ground by quite a few CCFC fans (including my brother who didn't bother to point him out to me!!!) Not sure who he would have been watching...Morecambe superstars?

In the first 30-40 minutes it felt like we were Man United, completely dominating and looking like getting a comfortable win - Morecambe barely got the ball out of their own half in this time. Chris Hussey was the stand out player for me, so unlucky to hit the post with a great effort after showing nice skill to take one of their defenders on. Shame he got injured, it didn't look too serious so hopefully he won't be out for long. Looked to me like we should have had a penalty when McIndoe was brought down in the box as well. After all the domination Morecambe managed to string a couple of good long passes together to break us down and score with an easy finish just before HT.

A bad end to an otherwise solid first half and the tables completely turned. We basically made Morecambe look like Real Madrid for most of the second half and I'm not really sure who was playing in what position because we were all over the place. Bell and Hussey were replaced by 16 year olds who looked out of their depth but I won't slate them for that because they are still learning and they need more experience playing games, far too early in their careers to have any kind of judgement on how they will do.

Stand out players:
Chris Hussey - Before going off injured he was easily the best player on the pitch although his corner taking was pretty poor!
James McPake - You have to admire him to throw himself in challenges where he is likely to get hurt! Doesn't phase him though, top defender and did well tonight.

Flops:
Roy O'Donovan - Worked hard and did a lot of running but wasn't any real threat to Morecambe and wasted a good chance.
Michael McIndoe - Pretty much the same as Roy really, worked hard but with no end result especially in the second half.

While obviously I love to win and I paid money to go to this game to watch our 2nd team hopefully we will be better off out of this cup in the long run. Was nice to see Morecambe's new ground where a small amount of travellers outsang the home support on their special day.

Looking forward to Watford on Saturday to see if the likes of Eastwood and Jutkiewicz can carry on their good form from the Pompey game.

it did seem a bit of a mish mash side on paper, still bigger and better things to come from saturday :)

yer it was about 600 but with one section for seating and one for standing up it was hard to judge the ammount of support we took up. But i did spot Sam Alladyce in the car park... he definetly lives up to his nickname "Big Sam"

Absolutely laughable that you think you outsung our supporters. Perhaps it was the acoustics of the stadium but I didn't hear your fans sing once all game from the other end of the pitch whereas we were singing pretty much all of the second half (first half less so as people took in the new stadium). I suppose your fans leaving when the second goal went in can make them proud too.

Other than that I agree with your assessment of the game - you started very well and should have been a couple of goals up. We got the goal at just the right time but I was fully expecting you to come out all guns blazing in the second half. However, we came out and completely dominated the second half and once the second goal went in there was only going to be one winner - I thought some of our football was fantastic at times.

Was good to see Carl Baker, I thought he played well for you and I hope he has a fantastic season so all the best to you in the league.

1st game in new stadium, a drummer a full house in your standing area and we could hardly hear you....

Seems like neither set of fans were special, if you want to create an imdimidating atmosphere at your ground Jack, you should sit/stand closer to the away fans.

Congratulations, none the less. Enjoy your run :)

Fair enough if that's the case Jack but I was right at the front of the away standing terrace and we could just about make out you guys cheering 'easy, easy' and a couple of other songs and they were met with ironic cheers by our support. Apart from that couldn't hear you at all and you obviously couldn't hear us... That's always a problem at grounds when the singing home fans are too far away from the away support. I don't think any of our seated fans made any noise which didn't help either and neither did yours, must have all been happening at each end in the terraces... I think Roche hated the first half he was absoloutly hounded with abuse by the Cov fans..

Good luck to Morecambe in the season anyway, if you can keep a good away record and keep the momentum of winning at home in your new stadium going you should be up there come the end of the season. Could have been a different story if we'd played more of our first team, only David Bell started against Pompey and also played Morecambe so we changed the whole team to Saturdays but apparantly a run in the League Cup is off our agenda and it meant more to you guys on the day.

Good luck and even though we lost I am still happy to have been part of your history at your new ground..

That hurt.

Yep I can kinda understand that this match wasnt that important in the bigger picture BUT it needs to be understood that ppl like me (actually live in Burnley) who brings their sons to watch "The mighty Sky Blues" have a right to watch a real performance too. My lads 13 and is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO proud of the Sky Blues, the crap that he takes from other local lads who support the likes of B/Burn, Man Ure, Burnley at school out when playin footy with his mates means that HE has a right too. A right to expect his heroes to turn up for the Club they play for and put in a performance. Last nite was NOT acceptable, it will be quite some time before we can afford to get to the Ricoh and the match he has to hang onto untill then was that drivel. To be fair yup in the 1st 20 mins we could /should have scored a cpl but after that it could have been 4-5 we lost by.

Also, I was standing right at the front behind the goals, I'm going to look out for myself on the highlights from when they scored their second goal :D

Morecambe got drawn out against Burnley at home in the next round... so we aren't missing out on a lot! If I remember rightly when Hartlepool knocked us out last season they drew Burnley in the next round as well....
