The only polls I see recently show the Tories going over 40% because they have pulled support from Farage. Labour is staying where it is in the mid 20s.

Should never have agreed to the GE.
I think there’s some more been done over the weekend. You’re right about the The Brexit Party loosing votes though. Pretty much every poll has their share halving. Ferage has overplayed his hand.

The most recent ones I see have the lead back into double digits and the Tories over 40

Latest poll

Tories hold 16-point lead over Labour, according to poll

So people see the top priority as the NHS they see Brexit as more important this time

Although 59% of voters say the NHS is the most important issue facing the country, 40% say the parties’ policies on Brexit will determine how they eventually vote, with only 18% citing approaches to the NHS.

Wasn’t this actually put out in 2015, but the BBC chuck it out like it was brand new.
Says the government has confirmed. And on the build up to the election.

The latest poll is actually 12%. You can see them all on Wiki

Candidates should be local as much as possible. Having knowledge and context of your electorate is a powerful tool.

In Coventry you could put a red lead on my dog and he’d be elected for office

If Robinson was still able he’d be elected again - he’s never lived here in his life

Exactly the same thing could be said in a nice Tory constituency in the Home Counties.

Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be the case though in both regards. Just look at the Lib Dem’s parachuting all the former Tory/Lab in elsewhere because they know they’ll lose their existing seats.

I’d love to see the Tories kicked out. Their embarrassing pretence at wanting to deliver Brexit is nothing short of disgraceful. At least the other parties are openly hostile. I’d rather an honest politician who totally opposed my views than a liar. Probably go with the Lib Dem’s

Of course, it’s not like you can expect a neutral news organisation to point out actual facts.
So if the government have announced it to the media it still isn't an actual fact?

So you not see the irony?

The Tories will do anything to deliver Brexit against the wishes of about half of the population of the UK. That is bad. The Lib Dems would put an agreement together but then stop Brexit against the wishes of about half of the population of the UK. Is that good?

It’s not new policy.... and you know this.
Show me where I have said it was a new policy? I sometimes wish people could read words instead of making up their own version.

What I said is it has been announced that they confirm it is happening. And all in time for the run up to the election. What have you read that I have said differently?

I was pointing out that it was old news, not a remarkable new idea.

You also pointed out that I was saying it wasn't old news when I didn't.

Totally typical of these sorts of threads. Even when I post a link and say about how bad it is I get someone come along to try and make out I am defending it or have said something that I haven't.

Bit silly really isn't it.

Farage isn't standing in general election. Maybe doesn't like the thought of not getting many votes
Wouldn't be surprised if he's been told he can't have a national radio show while campaigning to be an MP. If he doesn't run he can keep getting paid to put out what are essentially party political broadcasts and doesn't have the embarrassment of losing another election.

The giveaway has started. But this one should have been done ages ago.....Or shouldn't have happened to start with
It's pretty blatant. The fracking 'ban' that when you scratch beneath the surface is temporary, the temporary operations unit to prevent the NHS crisis worsening before the election etc etc.

I'd like to say surely people aren't that gullible but after the last few years I'm not so sure.

What percentage of GDP is spent on the NHS?

They have taken away the machinery as the licence didn't have long to run near me. But they will try again elsewhere. A way of being self sufficient on fuel. But the Tories never care about most people. Just the upper class, middle class and then take the piss out of thise who think they are or aspire to being middle class.

Tory seats up in Scotland are now up for grabs, probably more than before. It's not the case of Scotland wishing to leave or not, but the right to choose so if it wishes.

After the EU referendum where 62% - 38% of Scottish people wanted to remain in the EU. The argument for another Scottish Independence referendum had been settled up here because of this.

I fully expect this election to result in a second independence referendum and I fully expect them to vote yes this time. However they need to remember for them to become EU members they won't get the options and vetos they enjoy now. The Euro will be a prerequisite. But at least we won't have the "I think you'll find that's legal tender" anymore.

At least Britain will be out of the EU though, but just because Britain doesn't exist anymore.

If Scotland is taken out of the EU against their wishes they should get the choice on independence if it means they can choose to remain in the EU. The last referendum on leaving the EU should have been the last one. But things have seriously changed since.

Always turned up at Jubilee Crescent a couple of days before election day though.

Im going to be on my own here, but as long as they get elected I don’t really care where people come from. You can’t whine about the quality of politicians one minute then demand they’re selected on grounds other than competence the next.

I'd agree to an extent, but you're more likely to care about local issues if you have some kind of investment in the area. If a seat's more of a career move for a punt at shadow cabinet / cabinet, you're less likely to give a toss about old Molly Mustaphason tripping over the paving outside her house.

Does having someone parachuted in guarantee someone of a better quality or does it mean they want someone in?

I see that Sinn Fein and the SDLP have entered a pact in Northern Ireland to get out DUP leader in the commons Nigel Dodds.

Well that’s a different discussion. But at least we’re having a conversation about competence rather than whether they were living somewhere before taking a job mostly in London.

I do think there’s a case for a two tier system of front bench MPs with national responsibilities and others with local. Are the people of Uxbridge really getting a decent local MP right now?

Ideally I’d have Parliament elected proportionately on a national vote and something like a chamber of council leaders as well. Get some scrutiny on local politics as well as proper power and allow us to vote for a party nationally which is what most people do anyway.
