Mays political declaration was the main sticking point IIRC. And yes Labour are trying not to piss off either half of their coalition. Just like the Tories who pretend they want a deal. Difference is Labours compromise is actually possible.

Yeah, waste of time the political dec ! It should’ve been as significant a doc as the WA (maybe not in pages but in time taken/importance) but due to all the delays etc etc it ended up being a back of a fag packet effort !

Come on sick boy, tony and astute, emotive a subject as this is, no need for getting personal (I know we all miss the Grendel/Mart fighting but they are irreplaceable so no point trying ;))

After a while someone preaching to others and trying to pass off their own personal opinion and viewpoint as the truth starts to get tedious.

Labour had said they would leave both the single market and customs union (as it was).....but somehow retain the benefits.

I said Mays agreement wasn’t contradictory to this. As we know the trade discussions weren’t taking place until after the withdrawal agreement is transition period (due to EU sequencing) so how do we know which benefits we would lose until the trade discussions had been completed ?

Labour could have agreed the WA subject to parliament scrutiny on trade negotiations/agreement, if they really wanted an agreement.

ps unless you are suggesting that labour wanted to actually remain in the CU and single market but not want to admit it to their supporters, which is also possible
Hence the reason Boris is adamant we leave 31st October. THEN the EU may want to negotiate

Me personal?

Over 3 years of the two of them being untruthful. And that is being polite. Look at it now. I stated that Switzerland have a unique deal with the EU so why wouldn't we be able to have a unique deal? Suddenly Switzerland don't have a unique deal but nobody will say who else has exactly the same deal. I have constantly caught them out being economical with the truth. Have had enough. All I want is a debate.

I am still waiting for someone to explain how I am supposed to be a leaver when my wife and kids live in France and I am still in England.

well at one point you came out as full on leave on thread and then seemed to switch sides again.

Again, anyone claiming that their viewpoint on this sort of subject is the truth isn’t worth engaging with. Especially someone who claims to be neutral and then posts Guido Fawkes links.

ahhh yeah then there’s the usual bollocks of claiming that advocating the EEA option and asking for compromise means remaining in the EU whatever, ffs.

How does fuck off sound? Had enough of your lies. The same as Tony the UKIP voter who made racist comments. You are welcome to each other. Will ignore the pair of you from now.
To me it sounds like we have regressed back to two weeks ago (or is it three now?) what with "cretin" & the like included in responses as well

Do you know what Schengen is Baz? If you do can you explain to Astute that it doesn’t involve taking back control of your borders.
The whole argument is ridiculous as what other country had been offered the same deal as Britain? And not being able to comprehend the challenges of a country leaving vs one not ever being in the EU is bizarre and that’s not even taking the issue of Ni into account

We’re not even in Schengen as EU members, we vetoed joining it along with Ireland. Which is surprising as we apparently have no sovereignty as EU members.

No way am I casting judgement of Astute's gradp or understanding but would/did you ever call your own child a "mentailist" if they struggled to grasp a concept?

Depends. If they were pretending to be an expert on something and calling everyone else a liar because they couldn’t grasp a simple fact that being a Schengen member isn’t compatible with taking back control of your borders then maybe.

This unique/not unique thing.

I think an adequate analogy would be like options when buying a new car. Technically it's an off the shelf model, but if you choose certain options, trim, paint schemes etc you could have a completely unique car that no-one else has.

So you might actually call your own child a mentalist? Good parenting skills must've passed you by imo

I seriously doubt any of my kids would get to that point. I help them with their homework on a weekly basis and I can confirm that they’re both capable of reading what’s in front of them. Can’t help Astute with that one. You copy and paste the text, supply him links to where that text came from and that apparently makes you a liar in Astute world. That’s the definition of a mentalist.

I am not struggling to grasp anything. But the usual suspects are twisting what I say as usual. Then they can't back up what they say as usual.

The last time on this subject.

Switzerland has a unique deal with the EU. This is because of their personal position and location. Why can't the UK have a unique deal because of our personal position and location of Ireland?

Nowhere have I mentioned the deal Switzerland has with the EU. Nowhere have I said the UK should have the same unique deal. Because if we had the same
deal with the EU as Switzerland has it wouldn't be unique

In a way yes.

Except there is a difference between a different colour car and different agreement. There isn't another Irish situation anywhere in the EU. So a present agreement with another country in the EU won't help.

The easiest solution would be for us to remain in the EU. But instead of us spitting our dummy out and saying that the only solution is for us to remain isn't looking for a solution. It is only stating an obvious solution.

I still say that the best way forward if we are to leave is to extend whilst negotiations start. Threats of what would happen with enforced rules/laws that have to be passed before talks can commence will not pass parliament easily.

Start negotiations where everyone knows what the consequences are if there isn't a minimum of a free trade agreement. Know what would happen if freedom of movement is to end. Know what it would cost us each year to get what is negotiated.

Then put it to either parliament or the country.

We frequently hear (several times a day) that we didn't know what we voted for. Why not know everything we vote for if it is to happen?

The deal we have as members is unique. The deal negotiated with May was unique. What are you saying, could we have another unique deal? Sure, but it would need time to negotiate and the view of the EU (and most sensible observers) is that Mays deal is the only solution to our red lines and has very limited wriggle room.

Do you think that the way people talk to each other on here is how they talk to everyone in the real world including their children?

Even for you, that's bizarre.
Are you the king of the non sequitur in real life just like you are on here?!

I admit in the past I have perhaps become as frustrated as others & responded in abusive fashion.

The other week I decided to show people on social media the same kind of respect as I would face to face.

Others seemed to post accordingly - but have reverted to type.

We don't have a deal agreed. There has been no negotiations about a deal. The so called May deal isn't a deal. It is an agreement on how to go forward in getting a deal.
