Anyone else seen Johnson’s and the DUP’s deal? What happens after the 4 years are up and Belfast decides to deregulate? If this is his big idea, I can’t see this getting signed off by Dublin.

He knows it won’t. It’s just a play to be able to claim he tried and the mean EU won’t agree. That’s been the plan from day one: act like a dick and blame everyone else for noticing.

Anyone see Priti Patel smugly claim she is going to end freedom of movement yesterday?

Halloween came early.

We were led to believe that a main reason for the vote was due to high levels of immigration.

However, the points system is unlikely to reduce it and the UK has had a points system for non EU migration and they’ve never been able to keep those numbers down.

Levels of immigration will likely remain the same and UK citizens will lose rights to live, work and retire in the EU all under the illusion of the ordinary people having ‘control’.

Is that the border that's not a border because its 5 miles away from the border plan or another one?

Absolutely. A complete non-policy which is there purely as a racist dog whistle. It will serve no practical purpose whatsoever except to remove a right from us. Pathetic.

And Patel, the daughter of immigrants, stands there smirking while selling it to the Tory party conference. The woman is a horror.

the country her parents come from has already told us there will be no free trade deal with out an easing of visa restrictions as she well knows but the tory delegates lapped it up so job done.

You've also got to factor in other countries following the lead of India and requiring the UK to admit more immigrants in return for doing a trade deal.

Apparently that was false information (although basically true?) but there’s now a border between NI and the republic plus a border between NI and the mainland and NI will remain in a common agricultural area but only for a limited time, or something?

But don’t worry, we’ve had three years trying to sort this out so surely this new plan will be sorted in a matter of days...

Wasn't that idea already ruled out as anything that means NI has different rules to the rest of the UK is a non starter?

Yes at one point it believe it was ruled out. NI staying in CU seems one of the only workable solutions though so I don’t know why they don’t fuck the DUP off and go with that. Maybe need to keep them close in case they don’t get a decent majority in the upcoming election?

The basic problem is the DUP won’t accept NI being separate from the UK, the Irish (North and South) people won’t accept it being separate from Ireland, and the ERG won’t accept us being “tied” to the EU.

The Tories have decided the loser here is the Irish people because they want Brexit to be a purely Tory project and not get the easily got votes from Labour Leave constituency MPs.

Can’t say it enough, Tory political game playing is the entire reason we haven’t left and it’s sad that people don’t see this and have fallen hook line and sinker for lies from a proven lying liar.

And they’ve managed to shift their own internal party struggle onto the country.

Just for giggles, from 2016:

Amazing how every single Brexit benefit and lie has now been exposed and complete horse shit and now we’re just doing it because “will of the people” even though the people have changed their minds “will of the people specifically at the time of the vote”

We are in a post truth world and now that damage has been done I fear the consequences.

Heard the Tory Chairman on R4 today basically implying that there’d be political violence if they didn’t get their policy through. And he was completely unchallenged in that.

Scary times, I’m not sure these politicians realise exactly how hot the fire they’re playing with is.

As much as people say “it wouldn’t happen here” when real consequences to this type of language are discussed there already seems to be a high enough percentage of the population who would be ok with it.

I see during a Johnson speech at the conference the other day somebody in the audience was shouting that Corbyn should be sent to “a noose”.

People might think this is just rhetoric but there’s a percentage of the population who both back the death penalty and think remainers are “traitors”.

Thought I would take a look at what you preach.

People have changed their minds because someone selected the polls that said what they wanted and ignored those they didn't?

If I am wrong it is time for a GE. If the majority want to remain they can vote to remain. Remain has about two thirds of MP's on side. How about a vote of no confidence and get rid of Boris?

Taking your pick of polls won't get remain. Those shown are not even close to each other.

It’s happened already and we act like it hasn’t. Aside from Jo Cox. Rosie Cooper has someone arrested for plotting to kill her. The Finsbury Park terrorist had plotted to kill Corbyn and Khan. There’s people on Twitter showing photos of bricks thrown through their windows or property vandalised because they had an EU flag on display. My Polish work mate told me yesterday he’s already afraid there’ll be attacks on him.

Yes fair points. I was more referring things stepping up rather than isolated incidents but indeed it’s a worrying trend.

You. Can’t. Vote. Remain. Or. Leave. In. A. General. Election.

Why is this so hard to grasp? If you want a vote to determine the current public opinion, you ask them that question, not another one tangentially related.

Be honest, you’re just worried it’ll be Remain this time.

And please post the evidence anyone is cherry picking polls.

I’m not sure what polls you are referring to but vast majority seem to favour remain now. Regardless, the result of polls wasn’t really my point, it was that if it’s shown that people have changed their minds and taking into account that any of the supposed benefits of Brexit have fallen away we’re still supposed to act on the “will of the people” from one specific moment in time which seems like a religious fervour rather than an act of democracy.
