Them two were never going to stay with us for the long term as their subsequent careers have shown, there’s no could about it

"thanks to you we now play against you,” “Forever grateful to you, our beloved England”

Kosovo banner tonight

Obviously aimed at Britain but they will never play Britain
Worth reading Anthony Lloyd's book 'Another Bloody Love Letter' which has quite a lot about the Serb - Albanian war.

Incidentally, he's the journalist who reported on Shamima Begum

People getting ridiculously carried away. Seeing things like 'this shows Sterling is the best in Europe', 'the future is bright', 'what a performance' etc.

We're playing Kosovo, calm down. We know how this ends, we beat the shit teams then fall apart when we play someone half decent.

I think we can safely say where I sit on club vs country - I didn’t even know we’d played bulgaria until I read it on Sunday. I didn’t only not know we were playing Kosovo until I heard on the radio an hour ago, didn’t even know they were a team and apparently they have the best undefeated record in Europe?!

They’ve played the likes of Azerbaijan, Faroe Islands and Malta twice in that sequence

The only team they’ve played of a half decent standard are Denmark

Exciting game full of attacking football. Kosovo were probably a bit naive but they had a go and gave us a real test. Got some decent footballers in that team.

Said a few times on here, I’m England before Cov football wise. Obviously go to way more Cov games but the Euro’s and the World Cup are the pinnacle for me.

Strange choice. Can’t really see the attraction with tattooed over inflated egos with pearly white teeth myself.

Strange choice being attracted to the players rather than the team. Each to their own though.

Yes but it could have been so different as the title says and I am not dreaming it is absolutely heart wrenching what has happened to us and the wrong turns we took by the club mis-management - why shouldn't we be a top team with top players - after all we were a first division /premier league side longer than anyone else at one point- big city, big fan base, a new stadium built ready for take-off - rumours had it the Leicester owners looked at us first - yes it could have been so different

Don’t think it was us who was the longest, haven’t Everton and Arsenal been in the top flight longer at the time?

And Liverpool, we were 4th longest before relegation.

I know our tenure was broken but there are still only a handful of teams with an unbroken tenure of more than 34 years now: Man Utd and Spurs are in that list now with Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool. Chelsea are about 31-32 years but otherwise generally it's 10 or less.

England's basic problem is we don't have enough top players to choose from.
Too many foreign players eating up all the starting places at Premier League clubs.
Think back to the 1970's when 90% or more of the top division's players were British.
Now it's probably around 15%.
This is Scotlands problem as well by the way.
Anyone remember all the great Scottish players playing in the Premier League?
