Agree entirely with this point. Having the football creditors rule exacerbates rash spending on transfers because they have a level of indemnity. I'm not sure how a governing bodies laws can supercede the laws of the land.

Imagine if say the pork industry demanded that all suppliers of pigs should be paid first? Wouldn't stand up in court for a moment.

Do you know if HMRC or anyone has ever challenged the football creditors rule, and if so what reasoning was given for it being allowed (I assume they'd have lost seeing as the rule is still in place)?

HMRC challenges it every time doesn't it?

You can see it walking up to the ground, there are pubs that are full of city fans. Burger vans out making money around the ground as well. I can't remember the last time I saw a burger van anywhere near the Ricoh on a matchday, it was a good few years ago.

There's the bar at the ground by the entrance and then the kiosks inside the ground.

The local pubs there actually seem to be going out of their way to make an effort and get city fans in there, putting DJs on etc and trying to get people in there spending money.

The fact there isn't a parking ban on matchdays also makes a fair bit of difference.
There is a burger van outside Tesco on match days. It sells burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes etc, all at prices well below Ricoh prices and much better quality, too.

Does this site have things like Facebook or Twitter with ads? Do you have an interest in it.

To be honest I used to get my pre-match snack from that van as it was much cheaper (and often quicker) than in the stadium.

I don't know if this van features on FB or Twitter. I don't have an interest in it. I just go there when I'm at the Ricoh because the food is better, cheaper and, as you say, the service is quicker than inside the stadium.

Bolton Wanderers confirmed this morning that “any plans that may have been made for the immediate closure of the club have been put on hold”.

Reports claimed that joint administrator Paul Appleton told club staff earlier today in an internal message that “any plans that may have been made for the immediate closure of the club have been put on hold” due to negotiations with preferred bidder Football Ventures continuing.

He had warned over the Bank Holiday weekend that administrators would start the process to close the business from today, and put Bolton Wanderers into liquidation, if they were unable to conclude a sale by yesterday’s 5pm deadline, imposed by the English Football League (EFL).

Administrators said that “the club is currently not in a position to carry on trading”.

Closure of the club could result in the loss of more than 150 jobs.

Failure to get all parties to the takeover deal to agree led to Bolton missing yesterday’s deadline.

But this morning the administrators sought to reassure staff that closure plans are, for the time being, on hold.

Last night the EFL announced it had given Bolton two weeks to either conclude a deal, or prove it had the necessary finances to continue its 2019-20 League One season.

Failure to do so would result in the club losing its Football League status, which is the fate that befell neighbours Bury FC last night after it failed to get a takeover deal over the line.

I know fuck all about who they are but am I wrong to be instantly suspicious of any company that calls itself ‘Football Ventures’?

Will the efl give them special treatment to sign players outside the window too or will they make them wait until January?

Did they ever punish them for calling a game off because the kids were tired?

There's going to be a fair bit of presidence set I think.

Feel sorry for the Bolton and Bury fans there but for the grace of god could have been us

However I dont agree that a football club should be a special case when it comes to running a failing business. Cant think of any other failing companies who can circumvent paying its creditors by invoking something like the football creditors rules. That rule should not exist and as harsh as it sounds football needs a shake up where some more clubs go bust. Fans go on about their football community being destroyed but what about the smaller businesses these poorly run clubs send to the wall, the livelihoods ruined by these football ego trips etc. There is no reason for football creditors rule other than inept rank poor governance and dismal clueless management of clubs. At some point the football authorities need to bite the bullet and properly sort the whole house of cards out

I see Bolton's array of signings look like players on the way down from the Championship, no doubt all on high wages. I really don't think the future is bright for Bolton, rinse and repeat.
Most of them are only on loan or short term contracts until January. Think it was just a case of who was available and willing to sign. Not a big pool to pick from.

I still rate Keith Hill as a manager though, think he is as his best when given no money to spend and he knows how to hold his own in league 2 so could be a smart appointment to steady the ship.

He did superbly with Rochdale.

You'd hope he'd get next season as well mind you, as it's not the best job in the world as it stands!
I watched Rochdale a lot during the Keith Hill years and it was for the most part good entertaining football and he certainly had a knack of picking up either non League gems or players from divisions above who's career had stalled for whatever reason and managed to get the best out of them.

So they get a suspended point deduction because they didn't fancy playing a game.

Dangerously soft punishment

Whoever they were supposed to play on that day should have to face the youth team that they were playing at the time.

Good news really. Next time we’ve got injury problems we can just refuse to play and there will be no punishment.

That's exactly what has been opened up.

"protecting their young players"

Fucking joke. I had sympathy for their issues, but they manipulated it perfectly to gain an advantage.

It’s nonsense and opens up for abuse down the line. They showed no sympathy to clubs hitting the wall and creates more inconsistency is decisions.

I think the punishment is fair.

The EFL has decided to appeal today, saying it's too lenient. I think it's completely fair taking into account the circumstances.

At the end of the day it was the EFL who failed Bolton. Their financial problems have been known for the best part of a decade. But they let it spiral and then allowed a clearly unfit owner to take over AGAIN.

Yes what Bolton did was wrong, but sending out a team to get spanked 5-0 every week, isn't exactly fair.

It's not really fair though as it sets an example to other clubs that they can just not bother with a match if they don't feel like it and will just get a suspended points deduction.

Was it fair on other clubs when Bolton were spending shit loads of money they didn't have? With Bury, was it fair on the other teams in League 2 who didn't get promoted?

What about when we had a load of players away on international duty, Armstrong etc, and were told the match couldn't be postponed. If that happens in future just refuse to play and the game will be rearranged.

Yes it is. The majority of the players were 18+, only 4 were 17 who started against us.

They made out they were playing their u12's.
