Hiwula’s movement (or lack off) (1 Viewer)

I actually thought he put in some good defensive work in the 2nd half to support Mason.

Attacking wise... it was his 2nd consecutive poor game at home... Early days, but he needs to improve.

Hiwula does what he does and does it well. We are blessed to have a player who likes it into feet in tight situations. The big problem is we dont get him on tbe ball enough.

Gillingham and Southend were doubling up on him. They didnt on Jobello. But two men watching Hiwula should create space for someone else.

Didn’t have the best of games yesterday for some reason he couldn’t trap a bag of cement, but he put a shift in work wise.

He certainly did and why he wasnt substituted. He had a very good game. First half involved in some lovely attacking moves. Second half rolled his sleeves up and ran the hard dirty yards.

Maybe he doesn't like collecting the ball on the run because his first touch/trapping isn't the greatest? It's easier to do when standing still so that's why he likes the ball to feet and then looks to move from there

That's hiwalu he was like that last season but if he scores 10/15 goals again from the wing and contributes defensively I have no issues with him.

We don't have anyone on the bench who can play left, unless that ohare can play there.

Decent league 1 player. Not sure he would be the answer if we went up though. He snatches at his shots sometimes but always looks dangerous on the ball and creates things.

There was a spell near the start of last season where he couldn’t get in the team and didn’t start many but he forced his way back in and bagged a good total in the end.

Doesn’t sulk when stuck out wide and even works hard tracking back as some have said above. He’ll do another good job this season.

Last season I felt he was coming inside a lot more which I think he’s happier doing, definitely looks likes he,s been told stay out wider when in possession so far this season.

I do notice a LOT of the time, with the stray 50/50 balls to nowhere, hes very slow to react and is normally on his heels and gets to MOST of these second. A little bit more awareness and he could nick loads of balls in and around their box because hes not slow by any means, just slow to react.

I thought he was poor yesterday not to say he isn’t capable of a goal at any time

Hiwula is someone who is a good player for us, top scorer last season and by now we know what to expect. He will always have a period where he drifts out of a game, but you always think he is capable of producing a goal or mazy run out of nothing.

He is the sort of player who could be nullified for 85 mins but then do something great and be a match winner.

I suppose it's frustrating because he could get 20 goals if he was more consistent. Yesterday he was quiet, agree with others that defensively I thought he got back well in 2nd half, but never had that moment that opened them up.

With Godden always making tuns in behind hopefully that will allow Hiwula to move inside and have more shooting opportunities.

9 games, 3 goals, 3 assists thus far.

Much better yesterday. His quick feet set up 2 goals

Even though he drifted in and out I thought he played ok yesterday, great finish for the disallowed goal. He needs to impose himself more on games but he is ticking along with a few assists and goals

When you look at it that way its a good return

I think due to the lack of any obvious weak point in the team, people are pointing the finger at Hiwula because he goes largely unnoticed for long periods. Doesn’t mean he’s playing poor. He’s effective and does his job well. Quick feat and a good finisher that’s versatile across the front line. As above, 3 goals 3 assists and was great on Saturday. A very important player for us this season

Yep I think that’s fair. I thought his skill on the ball on occasion Saturday was really excellent

He's told to run on the inside of the defender, his starting position means he can't run into the channels really, it'd be pointless anyway. His movement is good just we're often a bit too slow to see it.

Anyone seen if he was offside Saturday. Took his chance really well

and he did it consistently on Saturday but as you say, we weren't finding him.
Mason seems to find him with that ball more often when he's playing.

according to Robins he wasn't.

Did a great bit of skill on Saturday to take about 2 of their players out of the game.

That's what Robins is talking about when he's on about players being brave, our midfield this season generally hasn't been. Even for Hiwula's offside goal, Shipley delayed a second or two playing that ball

2 Assists Saturday i think

Think he was either given license to come in off the wing a bit more on Saturday or just did it himself more like last season. Either way was more involved

I've not been impressed with him so far this season but he was much improved on Saturday. Not just the assists but some good link up play and working the defenders.

Do think we'll need to move him on next year as he's not Championship material.

Depends on if he's willing to become more of an impact sub/bit part player at that level. But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet - we all know Lady Luck tends to like crocking our most important players sooner or later in a season - we've already got Kelly out for a bit and Allen has missed the first month!

I think Hiwula is more effective than Jobello, also think that when Mason is back that will make Hiwula look slightly better

Looking at his pass for the third he passes to Godden but before it can run through ohare is on it in a flash and smashes it home. Assist??? Maybe

The last goal he pokes it through someone's legs, hits a leg and moves into the path of o'hare. Fluke assist (I think) but we'll absolutely take it
