You're over analysing it. It's simply a quirk of geography. We don't have a natural rival, much like Leicester. I've not met a Forest or Derby fan who gives a toss about them. I have, however, met Leicester fans who hate us with a passion, but then others don't care that much; but it's the closest thing we have to a rivalry that's reciprocated to an extent.

Villa was fun while it lasted, but as FP said, there was definitely an edge to those games in the 90s.

Sunderland, whipped up by them over recent years. That will die away over time.

I can assure you Forest certainly do dislike Leicester pretty keenly, even if Direby are the bigger rivals

I remember the Villa rivalry being very real in the 90s. I think it was mostly form our side though, the thing that is forgotten here though is that we hated them because we had never beaten them in our history until...I want to say '98...when we beat them 1-0 in the cup and Moldovan got the only goal, we then beat them in the league a year or so later. Facts may be wrong but that was the gist....
We beat them in 1988 for the first time i think. 98 was first time at Villa

The only time I’ve seen real trouble at football was away at Villa the day we went down. 3-2. I was about 14 and never seen anything like it since. Shutters in the concourse went up at halftime somehow and it was carnage.

There was definitely a rivalry, although not really much more than any of the other west midlands clubs all hate villa.

Baggies, Wolves and the smaller clubs (Walsall et al) all dislike them.

This game was a nightmare, after the sending off that never was, we scored, ball well over the line, but the linesman missed it, we’d have been 1 up. We outplayed them for most of the match, their winner came from a corner, when the ball ricocheted onto Billy Sharpe’s back and into the net. One of the unluckiest games I’ve seen.

That was it!! I knew I remembered us “scoring”!

Did you attend the home game against Leeds in 95, now that... That was utter carnage, on the pitch and everything, watched the whole thing from the stands will never forget

My brother and two mates got nicked for inciting a riot as they were the first three on the pitch, got roundly booed as they made it to the edge of the area and were in the process of running back when what seemed like the whole of the West Terrace followed.

We’d ran on and was just getting to Oggy at about the half way line when the roar went up and Leeds came on the pitch, ran over and remember this big old bear of a Leeds fan at the front throwing blows left right and centre until someone put him on his arse and he, quite literally, got his head kicked in.

Leeds charged again and I took that as my time to dart back into the terrace.

I always thought it was 96 though?

From the Coventry live,
He signed his first professional contract just before Christmas in 2015 and had his latest deal extended by a year at the end of last season keeping him tied down until 2020.

Yeah that's what i've read too. His loan deal expires with us on 31/05/2020 and his AVFC contract expires on 01/06/2020, unless he has signed an additional extension which just hasn't been reported. As i say, it just came up in conversation with my Cousins, they believed a 3 year deal had been offered so it just seems a little bit strange than its not been made public.

Was told that the holdup was he was being offered a new deal. Just assumed that he’d signed it if he came, but maybe not?

It seems likely that he has, otherwise why would they be sending him out on a season long loan. Just seems odd that its not been publicised. Every contract extension gets reported, tweeted, posted on facebook etc etc doesn't it.

That will make him a free agent next season, that could be interesting especially if he has banged in a dozen or more goals for us.

We seem to like signing attacking midfielders possibly coming out of contract with hare in the name..

Nice thoughts but if, as reported, he's been offered a deal but not signed, Villa will be entitled to compensation which, given his burgeoning reputation, will likely be pretty substantial.

Yes IF he is in contract, if not it’s down to him and his agent to broker a deal wherever.

He's under 24 & (reportedly)been offered a new deal. Assuming it's on better terms than his current deal, which seems inevitable, then Villa will be entitled to compensation.
