I think we are due 2.5% of any Maddison transfer, as part of solidarity payments.

As he was registered for coventry between him being 12 and 18 - we accrue a certain percentage of a total of 5% for each year. Which is weighted more between the ages of 19 and 23.

So providing he is sold this year, we would be due 2.5% and Leicester/Norwich would share the other 2.5% plus whatever % of fees they have agreed.

I'm not 100% but this is what I got from a book on football finances I just finished.

The other caveat to this would be if we worked a transfer clause in, agreeing with Norwich we are due a slice of any transfer % they get from Leicester.

E.g. Leicester receive 100m, Norwich are due 20% so receive 20m. If we got 10% of the 20% then we would receive 2m.

PLUS

5% of 100m is 5m in a solidarity fund - we would then be due 2.5m in solidarity.

Bringing the total to 4.5m if he goes for 100m.

In practice, I am not sure we would have been able to negotiate that second slice of the pie from Norwich - as practically it's very hard to police and secondarily, I cant imagine Norwich giving that up.
Sounds a little like amway to me

Wonder what will happen if Sunderland go up? Lol

He would probably continue his bench warming duty until his contract ends and his agent tells him Real Madrid want him but he will end up at Cheltenham. Average keeper who can’t kick you can already see the difference that a keeper who can distribute the ball correctly makes.

Tranmere fans not impressed with Ponti, looks like a competition winner in his few appearances so far apparently.

He should have loaned into league two and the team told to be given game time this is a waste of time for all parties

Have a look at the match thread from last night - seems Mariosi has now got his detractors!

Seemed odd at the time to loan him out to L1 and now it appears to be without any kind of guarantee of game time. Surely L2 would have been a better option. Maybe Tranmere were the only ones interested?

They were after him last year, they also drafted in other strikers after him.

Seemed a weird loan at the time but if he's not playing at all can we get him back? Would be better having him play in our U23s or even send him out to somewhere like Nuneaton where he'll get game time. Pointless him being up there and never playing.

Might have been mentioned but haven't seen it anywhere that apparently Maddison will be called up for England next week. Would imagine a cap would result in a payment for us.

I'm not sure that this would be true?

I've never heard of transfer clauses being passed forward - Why would Norwich agree to a clause that pays us a fee even if the player has moved on from them?

I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong, but it absolutely makes no sense to me that we would get anything besides a training fee from Maddison.

The transfer clause hasn’t passed - Norwich agreed to pay us if he gets an England cap - doesn’t matter if he plays for them or not

It completely depends on what was written into the contract, i could see either scenario (always the former in my Champ Manager experience). The actual contract is something we're highly unlikely to ever see but i'd love to read one.

Has anybody confirmed this?

Your reply seems very certain and I cant remember reading anything official that says this.

I'm just sceptical that Norwich would sign a contract that pays out even after a player has left. It makes absolutely zero sense to do so.

In theory it works, in practice I just don't see it.

Possibly a concession as the didn't meet the premium City were after
£5m-£8m?

Premier league player don't you know
In fairness to Bayliss and his time at Preston to date. Look.at Maddison time in his first season for Norwich. He ended up on at Aberdeen.
While I don't think Bayliss will reach anywhere near the level Maddison has got to, it's hard to judge him until next season as he will be getting up to speed and training on with Championship players around him. I could see him going out on loan in the next month or so.

To be honest bayliss is 20, by 20 Maddison had had a loan spell in the Scottish premiership and was playing a 44 game season at Norwich.. By 21 he had moved to Leicester City.

Bayliss is yet to feature in the Preston league squad
