Portsmouth peformance vs Bolton performance (1 Viewer)

So we had a game where (by all accounts) we should have won, followed shortly by a game which we surely should have lost. We were lucky to not conceed a penalty early on today, had three ruled out at Bolton. As they say, what you gain on the swings, you lose on the roundabouts...

I have both games down as should have won. Portsmouth was just a salvage job when we had all but recklessly lost it.

We should have got 4 points at least from those two fixtures.
But I'm sure MR would of learnt a lot about his players from last nights game.

thing is i reckon i would rather take 8pts and come off a draw with 9 men away to pompey rather than 9 pts with a 3 nil win over bolton but loss to pompey away

maybe its worked out better for us in long term?

As oggy said last night on the radio ,with regards to the Bolton match, our performance with 9 men was very similar to boltons performance against us where the players absolutely bust a gut to get a result, as oggy said if we had played them a game later they would have been absolutely shattered and the result would probably be very different ,as it is we will never know ,but I think he made a very valid point

weird i know. im talking more about team confidence

bet they feel better as unbeaten 4 games rather than yeah we can beat crap teams but not as good as promotional rivals kinda mindset

On the face of it yeah weird but I get what you mean. And way earlier in the season (maybe too early) but last night had the feel of Mansfield away from promotion season 2 yrs ago when we equalized with 10 men - JCH pen if I recall?

2 dodgy referee performances in the 2 matches with the biggest partisan support/loudest atmosphere. I wonder how much influence that pressure really has on refs at this level. Bolton fans were just ecstatic to be playing and then a Portsmouth full house. Last night's ref has gone from 3500 at Salford, 6800 at Southend, 8000 at Swansea in EFL Cup, to 18500 at Portsmouth with a side making the most of every challenge.

If you look at Portsmouth as being direct rivals from promotion/playoffs then I can understand the logic.

Beat Bolton, and lose to Pompey sees us on 9 and them on 6 so we're 3 points ahead.
Two draws has us on 8 and them on 4. 4 points ahead....
