So impressed with every aspect of his game last night.

Heading
Composure
Short passing
Long passing
Tackling
Concentration - there was one moment when he carried the ball out and lost the ball

All excellent on last nights showing

What I liked a lot was how he wasn’t a one trick pony. He reacted to the situation and as I say other than once he picked the right play every time

Anyone else agree?

In the three games (Liverpool U23s, I didnt do Bolton) I have seen him in, he has been absolutely superb. I assumed he would come in and be on the bench, used as a rotation option but from what I have seen from him so far (granted it's not a long enough sample to be certain) he'd be my first CB on the teamsheet.

He was good against Bolton too, albeit without any real threats to contend with.

With his reputation from Scotland and looking at his first few games, already thinking it might of been nice to have gotten him on a 3 year deal like most of the new signings instead of his 2 year contract. Always easy in hindsight.

Dom Hyam will find it difficult to get back in and I had him nailed on as first choice. Good news effectively but got to keep them all happy.

So...did we waste a wage on an ageing Mcfadzean? I'm reserving judgement....but i wish we didn't have a centre half as our playmaker.....

Was saying that last night, assumed it would be Hyam (autocorrected to hymen on my phone - one for the other thread!) plus one, but struggle to see how hyam gets back in now.

A good problem to have.

No, he definitely seems like the centre half to do the dirty work, I've been pleased with fadz so far

Me too, but would much rather us play through midfield - compared to wellying hopefully diagonal balls constantly, but that's just me. Hyam out of contract in the summer, meaning we'll likely lose him for nothing if he don't get game time.

I think Alot of it will change when Allen's back, he definitely is forward thinking and looks for the gaps

When do we play hopeful diagonal balls? From what i have seen the only time we have done that is when the forward has made a decent run and it's a calculated long pass, which is a great thing to have in the arsenal, other than that it has gone through Kelly and we have worked our way up the pitch. Or Rose/Fadz, has switched the play to jobello and the like, wouldn't say it'd hopeful by any means.

I don’t think so. Brings experience around the squad, it’s great to appear to have 3 very capable centre backs at league one level.

I guess it reminds me of the bad old days a few years back. We were decent at keeping the ball, but would always end up with our centre halves trying to make the killer pass. Can usually suss a bad team out within 30 mins if they play like that. Our quality has improved though, i just hope we don't over use it and become predicable.

Yep, his experience is key. Just a shame one of Hyam or Rose will have to miss out. Want them both improving to championship quality defenders.

Agree with this. Really like the look of him. Could be one hell of a signing.

If anything, we work the ball through midfield too much to the point where it's a bit slow at times.

Yep classy defender don’t see how hyam gets back in any time soon bar any injuries

Why when Hyam is better than McFadzean?

Not at all, he’s more of a hairy arsed defender, you need them type in division three. Think any combination of Mcfadzean, Hyam or Rose would be okay. Overall we look well covered at the back, there’s Pask and youngsters Williams and Drysdale.

Jury was out for me after the first game of the season which is the only one I’d seen. Thought McFadz was solid and Rose was shaky, but pleased to see him getting good reviews after three games. Wasn’t intending on ruling him out after one game mind, just thought he looked nervy and felt Hyam (Shyam for my autocorrect!) would have been hard done to if he’d lost his place for more games to him.

That's fair enough i get that, but hopefully once Allen is back we have another option of how to play.

To be honest, I think it works well, it drags players out of position so players can make runs and open the space and also tires them out so later in the game we can dominate a bit more. However, I do think sometimes we do overplay a bit (as you say) when we could perhaps be a bit more incisive and take that risky pass.

Sometimes it's about the partnership rather than the two best players. It's a very young back 4 without McFadzean and probably a quiet one too. Hyam has never stood out as a leader - he's more of a Kelly type who leads through consistency. That spine of Marosi, McFadzean, Kelly is really strong vocally compared to last year. McFadzean will also offer more threat in the opposition box too.

I like McFadzean from what I've seen so far, but Hyam and Rose would be a very classy centre half pairing.

Jury is out on that one for me at the moment

Mcfadzean has always looked good at this level but Hyam is better now than he ever was.
