What is going on with the Tory leadership contest? (2 Viewers)

Andrew Neil should be allowed to interview every politician. He's showing Boris up in having zero policies, and that he's a blustering oaf - not that it matters in this election, seemingly! Not convinced Hunt has many more(!) but he held himself together rather better.

It’s crazy that he’s even being considered as next PM. The country has become so dumbed down though that having no policies no longer seems to matter. He will end up being a complete disaster, if I was a leaver there’s no way I’d want him in charge.

‘Leadership’ is now defined as having a sharp suit and a witty retort.

Morals and substance don’t appear to be relevant qualities - or so we are told.

Ok I’ve caught up with the debates (or whatever these ones were called) this morning. Andrew Neil tore Boris to pieces. Jeremy Hunt actually came out of it looking ok. Boris will still win....somehow.

If you want to know the answer to that watch C4’s Despatches special “Battle for the Tory Party”. There’s a brexit cult within Tory Party members who have lost their shit, gone completely mad with we know what we voted for rage and taken over. I think they’re planning on burning a wicker man on the 31st of October containing Heidi Allen, Anna Soubry, Vince Cable and some Muslamic virgins.

If you’re not putting Chuka on there - opportunity lost.

It does seem a bit "a moving target is harder to hit" - keep the cycle going so no-one can focus on any one thing. Trouble is he seems to have got mired in this domestic argument a bit. He needs a new distraction.

And Boris does everyone up like a kipper again.

The thing with Boris is you're never quite sure why this came about.

Is it a deliberate ploy by Boris and his team to keep the news cycle going?
Was it done by the supposed editor to discredit Boris and show he doesn't research or understand what he's talking about?
Is there no 'editor' and it was in fact a double-agent on Boris' team who gave him the fish?
Was it a kipper producer who wanted to show that the newspapers and politicians will just use any old rhetoric people tell them to justify their stance? Or were they just trying to catch the newspaper out and Boris being given the fish was just an added bonus?

Why do have to think so hard about the reasons for shit like this happening? The world's fucked up.

The labour membership seriously needs to consider getting corbyn out if they ever want the tories out of office.

Surely they can see he won't ever win an election

No point moaning about something they can help change

He did reverse the trend last time and improved their position, and elections are often a long game (the last Blair/Brown givernment was basically there because of their successes in the past) so there's certainly an argument to be made that the next election is the push through, and he is a good campaigner.

Both Johnson and Corbyn are, in fact, bafflingly successful when it comes to elections!

What the opposition shouldn't do is make the mistake the Democrats made of making the campaign against Trump one against his personality. He brushed that off and is seemingly teflon, much like Johnson!

Yeah, we’ll be fine if we can avoid the trap of a personality contest...

Hang on I’ve got an email from Jeremy Corbyn...

Put another Blairite in charge and see Tory rule for the next 20 years... no doubt supported by some Lib Dems looking for a ministerial ticket.

Why do so many people ‘think’ that harking back to the days of Blair (Thatchers greatest creation) will solve this.

The USA didn’t listen in 2016 and now they are stuck with that racist bastard.

Careful what you wish for.

I agree - campaign on a manifesto and you will beat the Tories all day long because their only manifesto pledge is ‘it’s not Corbyn’ - they are bankrupt of ideas and their only motivations are self-interest... the epitome of Johnson.

Is it really that baffling? I don’t think so when you find your way through the bullshit rhetoric.

Yes, but it is Corbyn, the gift that keeps on giving!
It doesn't matter which dick leads the tories, while Corbyn is leader of the opposition, the tories are laughing
Labour are totally unelectable with Corbyn in charge.

So why wasn’t he crushed in 2017? Why is a man so inept/competent/useless a target of SO many stories, conspiracies and in some cases downright lies to discredit him?

If he truly was that inept... he would be irrelevant or ignored- like Vince Cable or Chuka (who incidentally only ever get media attention when it’s to Corbyn bash)

He wasnt crushed because of an upsurge in the student vote when he indicated that he would look again at tuition fees should he win.
Surprise surprise, hes since stated he wouldn't change them.
He cant pull the same stunt twice!

If labour want to be taken seriously they have to remove Corbyn and purge themselves of the loony left momentum movement.

Fake news. :emoji_arrow_up:

He has continued to maintain that university fees will be scrapped.

Problem is when Corbyn goes, (and I voted for him, would again, but now believe he is limited as a leader), we will get a centrist Labour party which will basically be the lib dems and just slightly left of the Tories, (though that could be considerably left of the Tories depending on how far they swing to the right under boris).

Who knows where they'll go under Boris!

A party that doesn’t actually give a fuck about anyone.

Some of Trump’s quotes about him are hilarious and probably based upon Twitter opinions he’s read.

They’d have more chance of getting into government with a majority IMO.

So would you prefer a more centralist Labour Party that has a chance of gaining power, or a more hard left party that dosnt?

A centrist party may as well be the Tories.
The centrists voted with the Tories on austerity which has killed thousands of people, ( the government don't even deny that, the only thing up for debate is how many deaths it's responsible for).

If all 3 major parties support a policy like that then frankly I couldn't give a fuck which of them is in power. And don't get me started on foreign policy.

What’s the point of power if you are just going to recycle the shit policies of the Tories?

Or is power about getting to decide how many people get to die because of your choices - whether that’s because of welfare and austerity, or because you fancy starting an unnecessary war.

The power line is a tired and sick joke.

Another thing, and I know it's only semantics, but elected to power?
They aren't elected to power, they are elected 4to govern and serve In the best interests of ALL the citizens of this country.
Not just their Bullingdon mates or there Hamstead dinner party set but fucking everyone.
The homeless veteran with PTSD, the Asian shop keeper, the blue collar track worker, everyone, something they seem to have forgotten.
