Not this summer no. He starts the season well then Jan who knows and next summer it could happen. It's what you might call a slow burner!

Let's face it, it's not exactly like we're struggling for funds to buy good players this season. The more premier league goals and England caps he gets, the higher his sale value will rise. This might not be a bad thing

Could work the other way. Serious injury in the first few games. Stops any progression.

Do t think we’re exactly flush at the moment either! And the longer this ground share goes on, the less funds we’ll have without player sales etc.

You don’t think any losses are being covered by sisu?

Well, yeah! But how long will they keep that up? They’re relying on these sell-ons I’d imagine as well. Bit of a blow for us that Wilson’s not moving on.
Has Wilson definitely signed? Would be disappointing but contracts don’t seem to mean anything nowadays anyway!
Yeah, I’m guessing they won’t cover us indefinitely but I sense they’re up for a bit of a war of attrition with wasps and ccc.
PS
My senses fail me regularly.

Sorry, yeah. I’m being a bit presumptuous. If he signs it’ll be a bit of a blow to us.

Being my optimistic self i was thinking that the offer of a new contract meant that big clubs were firming up their interest in him, and this was a last gasp attempt by Bournemouth to keep him.
I think You’re probably right though.

I think this is a big blow. If Wilson was ever going to make a big money move it was now.

At the kit launch, Robins spoke of how in previous seasons he was made to wait to see what money came in from transfers out before he knew what his budget was; but this season they have allowed him to go out and spend on the basis that money will come in from outgoing transfers and (can't remember the exact words) 'past sales'. If Wilson does sign for Bournemouth, I expect we'll look to offload a few and perhaps end our interest in other players. Hope I'm wrong.

You know how agents work. I expect Wilson will be touted around clubs before he signs this. They won't want to miss out on chance of ££££.

From a financial POV I think it’s a bit of a blow. I’d guess the club and SISU were subtlety crossing their fingers and toes that he’d be sold in this window.

Hopefully he replicates his form next season and interest is resurrected next summer.

Doesn't change anything, but would increase Wilson's value... and who's to say he won't go rogue if, after he signs a contract, a bid comes in from a club he wants to join.

Reminds me of when Dublin signed his big new contract in 98... he didn't see the first six months of it!

The longer the contract offer the Bigger the fee from the Interested Club gets!

On the other hand the new contract could be Bournemouth just looking to inflate his value

I expect his agent will insist on a release clause....the question will be at what level that is set? £30M???

I'd probably say more towards £40M. £30M is a bargain these days for a player of Wilson's calibre - they might as well just sell him now if they agree to that as setting his release clause at such a fee will only serve to opening the flood gates next summer.

If you look at what other clubs are spending at the moment, I'd probably say over half of those in the Premier League can afford both his wages and such a release clause, so like I said it would be in their best interests to set his release clause at probably the bare minimum of what they'd realistically accept.

This is actually better for City.

New contract means he won’t be going on a free (no city sell on percentage) and his age means he still at his peak before contract finishes.

New contract will also not stop bids from clubs, they might have to up his wages but doesn’t mean Callum can’t be open to offers.

Will not stop a determined bidder. He’s now a proven premier league goal scorer and they as rare as hen’s teeth.

If teams looking he’ll be on their radar-new contract or not.

That could well be the case. There just seems to have been lots of talk going back years of Wilson leaving Bournemouth, but it hasn't happened. You get the feeling he is very settled there - both on and off the pitch. It wouldn't surprise me if he stays at Bournemouth throughout the peak of his career. We shouldn't bank on ever seeing a sell-on fee from Wilson. If it happens great, but we have to accept it may not. I am sure the club see it that way too, but given everything that is happening, I suspect they had their fingers crossed.

The transfer merry-go-round isn’t in full swing yet. I’m hoping Wilson is being advised to wait and see before signing.

Perhaps makes a bit of a change to see so much loyalty from a player who has risen to the top level very quickly and gained England caps. If he's happy at Bournemouth then so be it. The transfer market is so inflated now I wonder what his new wages would be if he does indeed sign a new deal. I imagine he'll probably be the club's highest earner.
You never know though, the Chinese clubs have added an extra dimension to the transfer windows in recent seasons and often offer silly wages. It will only take Guangzhou Evergrande or whoever to wave double what he'll earn at Bournemouth next January...which would then completely contradict what I just said about loyalty.
I would think there would be very little chance of Bournemouth ever letting him go on a free whether that was now or in the next couple of years, he has become such an iconic player for them.

What is likely at some point is that Maddison will be sold from Leicester to a larger club for something silly enough that we still receive our portion of that, even if it's a small percentage, the way the market is going he could leave for very big money so this time next year could be a different story.

TBH we have no idea if we're struggling for funds. We've brought in quite a few players and put in bids, but with the reduced attendances next season we've no idea where the cash is coming from. I remember mid-late 90's we had the noises from the boardroom about not being a selling club/not needing to sell then before you know it this £60m debt has appeared and we're close to going under. Ok, that did involve relegation and the collapse of ITV digital but sometimes market conditions change quickly.

I'm enjoying getting these players in and the squad we seem to be building, but for all we know it could be being built on a speculative basis and reliant on going up or Maddison/Wilson sales or future sales of current players.

I read an article last season in the magazine When Saturday Comes about Troy Deeney. It was written by a Walsall fan who was saying that Saddlers fans had just reached the point where speculation and conversation about a potential move for Deeney was coming to an end due to his age rising and his sell on value dropping. Prior to every transfer window there was hope that this would be the one where Deeney finally moved on and Walsall would pocket their sell on money that would fund their next promotion push. Deeney has never moved. It looks like Wilson might sit tight too.

True re. Dublin but if he hadn't signed the new mega contract, City would have got next to nothing for him as he would have been out-of-contract and the fee set by tribunal.

Richardson had no intention of keeping Dublin on a mega contract and looked to sell asap.

Lame, was hoping for a windfall.

can see his thinking, if nobody in the top 6-7 teams come in for him and the money offered is similar then there isn't much point in switching to another lower Prem team.

he's no kid so Bournemouth is a far better place to live

Maybe hes waiting for the Chelsea embargo to end before he can sign for them?
