I’d keep him as I think he will come good. Could sell ourselves short if he starts delivering.

Quite a few people wanting to sell Chaplin and sign McNulty.

Main issue I see with that is game time
And fitness. Chaplin with a full pre season should come good. How many games did McNulty even play last season ?

There is a very good player in Chaplin he just needs to relax and get confident

Unless a someone comes in with Hickmans heavy pockets that could fund some of Bright and a replacement striker i would keep Chaplin.

Theres a tweet the Peterborough chairman Darragh McAnthony has put out with Marquis in La Manga. McAnthony implies Marquis might be going to the Championship.

McAnthony speaks out of his arse. He practically farts out of his mouth 24/7. I wouldn’t pay any attention to what he says on his Twitter whatsoever.

Who wants to take one for the team and try and navigate their forum to see if there is something in this rumour?
I powered up the flux capacitor and can confirm that there’s nothing about it on there. Having said that if it’s posted tonight it’ll probably show there by mid morning tomorrow.
I’m off to get some eye drops now.

Looking at his highlights from his pompy days there is no doubt we have seen very little of CC's best form and we signed a player that did not fit out system. 700k and I would sell him with a nice sell on clause in the deal in case he turns out to be better than we have seen.

For me i’d sell. It represents a 40% profit on what we paid which is a good return. I can’t see Robins changing the system too much from last year which most of us seem to agree doesn’t suit Chaplin. Undoubtedly a decent player in there but not with a 4231 system for me.

Most of those who want to sell are saying that that he has potential but didn't fit into our system last season. What if we were trying to buy a young striker with potential who needed someone good in the air to thrive - and the price was £700k? Would you be against that?

My point is that £200k profit is irrelevant really if we cannot get better with the money received.

I'm not sure why we would be trying to buy a player who needs 442 with a target man if we don't play it?

What do you think all these Championship teams see in him that you don't?
Exactly. Hes obviously got something about him if teams at a higher level are after him.

Full pre season, injury free, fans off his back...it could be different next season.

I must admit I'm very surprised by this bid.

I don't think he's a bad player, far from it. But to sign for £500k last year and have a fairly average season at L1 level, I don't get what Barnsley (and possibly Luton) have seen in that year that he's worth an additional £200k to play in a higher league.

I could understand it more if they were still in L1, it just seems odd they want him in the championship after a very indifferent season in the league below.

They would play a different system that would suit him more I guess

I honestly think Robins thought he was faster than he is. I remember him being hailed as a pacey striker but the first time I watched him it looked like he was running in treacle. If he had a bit more pace he wouldn't need to play next to a big man as he could get to through balls and crosses on the floor!

He’s quick over the first 5 yards. As above, he’d probably score quite a few if played in the right position/in the right team.

It is a strange one.

If he doesn’t fit the preferred system why did MR pursue him as his number one target? What changed?
Why did he always play so deep?

MR now has an opportunity to put it right. Either play him as a striker or sell him and replace him with a proven L1 goal scorer.

Maybe Max getting injured changed it ? 4231 does not suit Chaplin what so ever but seemed to be the formation for us I can’t see us going 442 now tbh

Is he really that quick over 5 yards? He reacts quickly but I'm not convinced. Honestly not sure if I'm being harsh. I just don't see it. Think we have loads of players that outpace him short and long distance. I think Robins thought he could get him to use his pace to get in behind and run at players not sure it is working out that's why I think he doesn't fit our system but someone like bright does. Maybe someone sped up the footage of him slightly when showing Robins...

Being quick over 5 yards isn’t much good when your constantly having to drop 30 yards from goal to receive the ball.
He ended up on the bench because he’s better suited to coming on when your chasing the game and throwing the kitchen sink at the opposition.

Yeah, Maybe not even 5 yards...he operates well in the box. Like you say he reacts quickly. Thinking about he’s basically mick Quinn and you’re right, our system doesn’t suit him. Having said that he’s clearly got some skills.

I'm 100% sure he has a footballing brain and could go on to do well as a club that plays to his strengths but given pacey wingers have been brought in I think that needs a pacey middle man to keep up and slot home the crosses, at the moment I don't see that as him!

I think it would be mightily premature to let him go. We need to play to his strengths which I don't think we did last year as well as the fact after the saga we went through to get him all our hope's were pinned on him to be the McNulty goal replacement.

However this year , we have Kastaneer and Jobello and Hiwula who I have high expectations for, so the burden isn't going to solely rest on his shoulders and can't see him missing the chances he did last year again. Give him another go I say. If he turns those chances into goals then we could be asking for double if not more than what has been offered.

Barnsley were in for Chaplin when we signed him, so they will know what we paid.
Transfer fee + signing on fee + wages + sell on clause.
700k could very easily be our break even.

its going up all the time. This guy will be our first million pound player in years soon :)

I think Robins wants to turn him into a No 10, not sure he’s got the attributes to be honest. But faith in Robins.

Don't really see where he fits in really maybe up top playing off a target man but dropped way too deep last season he had no real influence on the game
