Perhaps some of the others would rather fight for a party and country ahead of self interest. Alternatively, it may be the tipping point to follow some of the others out if their party.

Given the defections and resignations from the conservatives already it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities. Seem to remember Heidi Allen and Soubry claim other Tories were holding out to see how things pan out before deciding their future with the Conservatives. Again it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that the election of either Hunt or Boris could be enough to trigger resignations and defections from the Conservatives in either direction. Brexit has divided the Tories massively in Westminster. I wouldn’t bet against the result of the leadership election triggering a general election through resignations and defections meaning that the Tories can no longer form a government, agreement with the DUP or not. Might not get as far as a vote of no confidence.

I reckon there may be up to 4-6 Lab MP’s in favour of no-deal. Then you are left with the Independents - oh and don’t forget Chuka who will have probably moved to the Tory party by the time a vote would come around.

Even Nigel “the man” Ferage has said today that Boris can’t get brexit through parliament. If he disappears and says nothing or when he does appear there’s something else that the media wants to talk about he hasn’t got to talk about brexit. It’s got to be one of the few elections where a non political scandal of a candidate has been seen as a welcome distraction rather than an unwelcome distraction, this scandal does seem to be the cornerstone of Boris’ campaign.

Said a while back that I suspect the members will decide Boris is just too big a risk/liability as he will put his big foot in it at some stage.
Some guy hit a nerve on 5Live earlier, imagine the scenario from the other night. Trump issues the order to bomb Iran & pulls out minutes before, but forgets to tell Boris (or just as likely Boris jumps the gun)...by dawn the next day he would have gone nuclear & there would be no Iran! He has a volatility about him...do you trust him with the button???

It does seem a bit "a moving target is harder to hit" - keep the cycle going so no-one can focus on any one thing. Trouble is he seems to have got mired in this domestic argument a bit. He needs a new distraction.
Strange thing is, as much as I think Boris is totally incompetent I still think I'd arguably prefer him to Hunt, who got a very hardcore market driven capitalist ethos and I fear for many of our public services if he got it. Like Pence replacing Trump - arguably more dangerous because he's got some very worrying ideologies.
