We're talking on this thread of £3m for Bayliss and 600k for Bright. Do we really think Bayliss is five times as good as Bright?

The actual worth of a player and the worth of a player to his parent club are two very different things and will therefore warrant vastly different price tags. Don't forget that.

But I think we will get Bright, or atleast really hope we do, Robin's and Boddy have spoke about having deals for top targets lined up and ready to do and I would imagine Bright is one of them. Especially after Boddys comments a couple of weeks ago saying we could buy him.

Yes, but the point is do WE (ie CCFC) think Bayliss is worth five times more to us than Bright would be?

To be honest if this is correct and that Thomas has just gone for £1.2m I'd be amazed if £3m for Bayliss is accurate, especially as an up front fee. I reckon if any bids come in they'll be half that at best, plus add-ons.

Well obviously he's not five times better than Bright, I think we just want to do our upmost to keep him. Thomas' transfer is bizarre. I think Derby probably knew he wasn't going to make it into their first team, not anytime soon anyway otherwise they wouldn't have sold him to a Championship rival - but they certainly made Barnsley pay.

I do agree with you though I would be very surprised if we received such a bid from a club. My guess is we'd accept £2M.

It’s a sellers market, Bright isn’t important to Wolves. He has one year left on his deal and Bayliss has 3 years left. I wouldn’t sell Bayliss for a penny less than his reported buy-out clause.

In this context, yes.

Note: I’d rather secure Bright.

I thought from reliable sources on here that Bright was now on 20k a week? If that was true, I couldn’t see him being a permenant signing, a loan signing maybe. I can’t see him dropping from 20k a week to what we could pay him.

Well according to one poster on here who tends to be accurate the one year contract is a million in wages. Why would they opt to lose £400,000?

Why would they (assuming you mean Wolves) lose £400k? If they sell him to us for 600k (which I doubt) they'd no longer be paying him. Possibly a 'loyalty' bonus but that's it - it's unlikely that would be having to pay up the rest of his contract.

The bigger issue is why would BRIGHT take the loss. IF he was on £1m at Wolves would we be able to offer more than that overall over the course of a contract? I still very much doubt it and he may as well spend a year at Wolves or out on loan and then move on after that.

If he left at the end of the season, they’d lose £1m. As for the figure, £600k is completely made up.

The takeaway from my post is that Bayliss is worth more to us than Bright is to Wolves.

Depends on whether he wants to play football or put his feet up.

It’s not made up it’s from the best source for inside information we have on this forum - are you questioning it?

You are clearly questioning it if you’re doubting why Wolves would let him go for £600k if his contract is worth £1m.

As for myself, I have no idea where the £600k came from.

My reply was about the premise of the thread.

It makes sense for Wolves to extend him knowing that we were desperate for him and would pay for him. The 20k must be a big extension offered which would mean him staying there long term and only leaving on loan.

Better days says he’s been offered £20,000 a week to stay. Explain why they’d sign him on a million pound contract to then sell him for £600,000

You've misinterpreted. I never said Wolves would sell him. The quoted £600k transfer was used to compare with Bayliss’ supposed £3m.

To answer your question in two points:
1) Bright presumably hasn’t signed new terms, Wolves have taken the option on his contract
2) In the last year of his contract, the player could leave on a free next season

That is why Wolves may accept that quoted fee for him.

I’d be surprised if we actually signed him. In fact, if we do, I’ll even buy a season ticket in support of the team (I can’t go to many games next season).

Because:

They hadn't extended his contract
Fee received - £0
Wages spent - £0
Net profit - £0

Extend contract and sell before contract starts (likely July)
Fee received £600k
Wages spent £0
Net profit - £600k

As long as they sell him within this or the January window they've made a profit. And if they don't they've still got the chance to have him under contract and get first refusal on another contract after that if they think he's worth persisting with or they do badly in the Prem next year and look like they might go down and thus need him in the Championship the year after.

They would receive a fee he’s not 24 is he?

Not if they don't trigger the extension in his contract or offer him a new one on at least the same money he's on now.

But they have increased his fee and by even offering it wound have received money

There's been no confirmation he's signed (or been offered) a new contract, let alone one at £20k/w.

All that has been confirmed is that Wolves took up the option in his contract to extend it for a further year (which may have included a pay increase and could be for 20k/w for all I know)

This gives Wolves the right to negotiate a fee with other teams, and he's apparently in demand so could get a bit of a bidding war. All they have to do to get that is sign a bit of paper on an existing contract.

On the other hand, they could've decided to NOT take up that option and renegotiate a contract for the same amount of time on more money, which Bright could then turn down and Wolves would only get whatever compensation they were due as a development fee, which would likely be far less than they can negotiate for him under contract.

Just can’t see this happening , he was on a high at the end of the season, having played a load of footy & felt loved. That was the moment we had to get him signed ... that buzz of playing will have died as the weeks and months go on & what the reality will be is that wolves will be offering g him much bigger wages and the lure of possibly playing premier league

If all wolves signed him for again was to sell him and get a fee then his performances for us will have alerted bigger clubs to his availability and if he gets the offer of championship football and wages , is he really going to remember his fondness for us from months ago ? Combined with all the shit we are going through?

Bright was on the bench in Scotland and in truth I think MR got more out of him than most appear to ever have. If i was bright I would be signing for CCFC and seeing where MR can take him.

There is a very famous Chinese proverb one step back to go two forwards. Bright has time to take those steps.
