St Andrews travel, parking & drinking (1 Viewer)

Morning all, Blues season ticket holder here.

Firstly , all the best for next season and welcome to Blues . I think the vast majority of our support is respective to supporting another club (with one notable exception). Shit ownership is affecting many famous old clubs (we have had, and continue to have our issues too). Hope you get the egg chasing version of MK Dons out of your city sometime soon.

Street parking around St Andrews is ok in the main. The streets around Small Heath get very congested with local traffic (non - football) , my advice would be to park in and around the Digbeth area. When parking here you also have the added bonus of some cracking traditional pubs. Digbeth is on the rise and , in my opinion, is the best area to drink either pre-match or for a night out in the proximity of the city centre.

One point of caution , if parking around the back streets of Digbeth , is do not obscure any roller shutter doors / obvious commercial entrances - I have witnessed a car been removed
by a fork lift truck after doing this.

The Ibis hotel close to the ground offers parking for about £7 (that's what it was last season).
Lots of people also park on Morrisons car park. I have done it myself for midweek games and the only issue is congestion getting out afterwards. I'm not aware of anyone being ticketed for parking here but that is only to my knowledge - please don't take my word as gospel, Id be amazed if they didn't start doing that in the near future to non-shoppers.

I have read on your other threads the discussions that you've had about train travel in to New Street . This is an excellent choice as you'd have to walk directly through Digbeth en route to the ground.

One train option you may not be aware of though , and will suit your Warwick/Leamington/Stratford based fans is the local train service (Chiltern I think) to Bordsley. This is a little shit hole of a station that is only used on match days. It is located about 5 minutes walk from the stadium.

All the best , have a good season.

Always had a soft spot for Birmingham City. Good luck to you too.

Thanks for all that info. Was debating parking or train. I live in Warwick so the Bordsley option sounds good to me. Hopefully Chiltern will give us the option on our matchdays too. Might tweet them and see what they say.

It's cheap from Cov on the train but still quite expensive from down here. I'm wondering about drinking to Worcester, or somewhere similar and getting the train. Must be some cheap options doing that.

Presume you mean DRIVING to Worcester?!
Reasonably frequent service to/from Birmingham (choice of Moor Street -1h - or New Street - 45m), some from Shrub Hill, some from Foregate Street.
Costs £9.60 return. But you have to consider parking in Worcester City Centre, which is disgracefully expensive (even compared to Brizzle) - and it's a bastard to get to from the M5!

If you are a bit more flush, you could use Ashchurch (very close to J9 of the M5, 35 mins from the Almondsbury Interchange). Cross Country trains direct into New Street (at convenient times for a 3pm Saturday game). £7.75 each way by advance single, or £25.50 return!!!!!

Bromsgrove to New Street - frequent service, £6.70 off-peak day return. Happy days!

Droitwich is another option - both that and Bromsgrove roughly the same distance from M5 J5. Think parking at B'grove likely to be easier as further from what passes as the town centre. Droitwich is where a lot of district councillors live, so they'll want to keep ne'er-do-wells out!

Bromsgrove Station car park is £1.50 all day on Sats and Suns

OK, King's Norton station is 10 mins from J2 of the M42. 15 mins into New Street, £3.20 return. Don't know about parking!
Longbridge, closer to M42, 20 mins to New St, £4.60.

Ah, my mistake then. Just presumed it was Chiltern. Will tweet them instead.
Next stop would be Moor Street torch, one of the three main stations in the city centre. Virtually round the corner from New Street which is on the Cov line. You have to walk to the ground past all those Digbeth pubs our man was on about.

I'll be getting off there, only coming from the opposite direction.

I can see me ending up in some right states next season.

The trains from there are 7/8 quid though. Probably worth it just to drive to Brum.
Does the Brizzle train go through Malvern? Just a thought as I was thinking of getting a train from Malvern Link to New Street and then hobbling to the ground if it isn't too far.

There is a service through Malvern/Malvern Link, to New Street, something like hourly. If I recall it takes around an hour, passing through Worcester and Bromsgrove.

I have to agree, Digbeth is fantastic for ale fans.

One of our favourite areas of Birmingham for an ale trail.

Ale trial followed by a Cov game in our promotion chasing season, finished by the rest of the trail. Good day.*

*obviously still wish we were playing in Coventry.

Does anyone know how close to the ground the Coventry to Birmingham X1 bus goes?

Is the nearest stop Bordesley train station? King's Road?
