What would happen if SISU / CCFC said that the council were pissing around with "new stadium" stuff like before? After all, the council leader contradicted himself and dropped himself in the shit about it and there was barely even a murmor about it and the Trust were shaking his hand while he thanked them for protesting at SISU.

I’m sure in the event of CCC being uncooperative, that the ever obliging EFL wouldn’t mind if our owners applying for planning permission on proposed WCC or RBC sites.

They identified 3 sites (locations still undisclosed) about 3 years ago with no problems.

I mean they think that St Andrews is only 6 miles from Coventry.

Should I be surprised that you seem to be missing chunks out of your history or just take it as the default nowadays?

As I said, when it was pointed out CCC were being uncooperative there was barely a murmour. So much so you dont even know about it.

The pressure needs to be applied on SISU and EFL quite right, it also needs to be applied to other parties in the city depending on what is being done. Otherwise Duggins will just keep reeling his pre-prepared statements out while people froth up.

I remember reading at the time that SISU were the council’s preferred bidder for the club (I believe there were 5 options) as they were the only party not interested in taking on stadium ownership - though I cannot find the associated article which stated this. This ties in with their short-term strategy of looking at a quick promotion, hit the Premier League jackpot, get out again. This was the vision that Ranson - who we must remember was considered by them some kind of footballing guru thanks to his scouting software - sold to them.

The point being that the council have only ever looked at their stadium retention as a cash cow. This was also evident when rent renegotiation circa 2010/11 was rebuffed even when the club was dying on its arse. Evidence has been released showing that the council were effectively stringing SISU along in their ownership negotiations to afford them time to sell the story to Yorkshire Bank that their business (ACL) was in financial difficulty and they wanted early release from their loan. The entire angle was retaining ownership and, as such, control.

I’m not for one second going to sit here and say SISU have been good owners. They’ve disregarded the very nature of fandom and consistently alienated parts of the fan base/commercial partnerships that have been struck up. They’ve done two good things: firstly getting us out of the crippling rent deal that existed pre-2013, and secondly got the club to a basis where it runs almost self-sufficiently. The by-product of this has been a voluntary move out of the city on one occasion and the lapsing of any chance to own the stadium which was once built for us.

Having said that, the council - much like previous stakeholders in the club (and indeed current stakeholders in the club) - have only ever used the club for their own means and have shown a serious lack of consideration for their electorate and the local businesses that thrive on the back of Coventry City Football Club. They are a disgrace.

Just for measure, Wasps can fuck off as well.

We don't own or even have a ground anymore and we only have a big fanbase when we get to Wembley or draw Chelsea at home in the FA Cup. The whole reason Man City's fortunes changed is because they acquired that brand new stadium after the 2002 Commonwealth Games. It made the football club a viable commodity, which we just aren't.

City didn't own it at the time but the deal they had was significantly better than ours and involved full access to all revenue. I've posted about it here before. The council tried to mug the club and have fucked it forever.

That's the PR job, just spread as much nonsense to get everybody worked up about particular things.

Some of the people who don't even seem to know things that have gone on who have been losing their minds is a bit worrying. They just end up repeating things they have seen.

Exactly where I am, NW. I wanted them to win initially too, but they didn't and we are now 6 years on.

I don't see how any one can have a single ounce of faith in Sisu ever building a new stadium.
