Peterborough spent a good six figure fee to get Matt Godden from Stevenage too last year. They do invest well each summer in players who they feel will take them to the next level and can make profit on if they perform

Soon it will click again and they achieve promotion to the championship

But is it a good investment to spunk six figures on a player and then they DON'T get promotion?

If that player brings out the best in other players then it raises the other players value, so the business model works.

Likewise if you get it wrong and get someone disruptive.

You’d have to ask Darragh MacAnthony that question.

Peterborough are not a club who tend to throw caution to the wind when it comes to the financial aspect so I’d imagine they can afford the investment and likely still have cash knocking about from Jack Marriott sale to Derby. A previous signing with just L2 pedigree who kicked on and they profited out of a sale

Of course, these lower league signings DO work on occasion, and with the right manager and other coaching staff. I'm sure we are hoping that Aled Williams can have that impact on the two "League 1" keepers we have signed.

It’s a big part of the Peterborough yearly recruitment philosophy, they do collect a lot of lower league players into non league too who’ve shown great ability. Not all work for varying reasons, or on the flip side are taken too soon before they get the best on the pitch from the player becoming a victim of the success.

On the keeper front last summer they signed Aaron Chapman the L2 Keeper of the year but have transfer listed him this summer as Ferguson dont fancy him in favour of another highly rated L2 keeper in Cristy Pym from Exeter.

Good shout I thought that when I saw he went to the dons he would have been a good addition to us

Hiram Boateng and Cristy Pym I’d of liked to of seen arrive here this year, or Aaron Chapman for that tho he’d of cost a fee I’d imagine.

Obviously we’ve recruited with other targets so both keepers are not desired...

Any decent RB's available on a free?

Interesting he’s linked with Hibs. A backup in case the prospect of McNulty falls through or have they switched targets?

34yr old David Nugent is available on a free, not sure of his appearance/goals record in the last few years though.

The article is pretty misleading. The headline makes out that we have 2 signings incoming when that's not really the case at all. The CT has simply asked DB which is the next position we'll look to cover next and what mould they fit in. The signings could be weeks away yet.

It's not like the Telegraph to mislead anyone though is it?
