That’s my worry. I’m not all for the idea of visiting the same place twice, initially. But the smile on my mrs face about it is priceless, so I won’t complain too much. I think NYC is worth it

We've been to Mexico several times staying at Excellence Playa Mujeres. It's a great hotel, but not cheap. Look it up on Trip Advisor to check it out. It's north of Cancun and certainly not a "partying" hotel. Next door is the Beloved, a very quiet and laid back place.

The US is a very big place. From where I am New York is almost 3000 miles away, Florida is over 2000.
There is everything here anyone could ever want. Each state is like a different country except everyone speaks the same language (with different accents and Spanish is becoming more common in some places). Whether you like big cities, small towns and villages, beaches, lakes, forests, mountains, rivers, it's all here ... somewhere.
Many of the best places are known only to locals but you can discover them on the internet.
There's a series of guidebooks that are excellent, the titles all begin with 'Hidden' as in 'Hidden California', 'Hidden Arizona' etc.
If you think you would like Canada and New Zealand, you'd probably like the New England states, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire.

July is a very bad time of the year to go. It can get very hot and very humid in New York in the summer.
Most New Yorkers escape the summer heat by going to the beaches on Long Island.

I suppose the only areas I would even slightly consider would be places like Yosemite, Yellowstone etc. I wouldn't go anywhere near the cities. We almost went in early 2002, paid for a flight to Florida then a cruise around the gulf of Mexico, but 911 happened and we cancelled. I must say, the company we booked through was based in Florida and had no hesitation refunding me. I didn't expect that. We ended up going to Kephalonia for a fortnight!

Couldn't agree more Seen enough of New York on the telly (including Starsky and Hutch !) and it has absolutely no appeal. Any big ,sweaty skyscraped city does absolutely nothing for me. I'd rather explore tucked away parts of Wales, Ireland and Scotland than some big modern concrete metropolis in china or wherever. Mind you the weather will be crap.

Have stayed at the TUI Sensatori Riviera Cancun in Riviera Maya. The hotel is lovely with an adult area and family area. Food was ok, standard AI fayre really. Mojito bar was excellent.
Have also stayed (twice) at the RIU Tequila in Playa Del Carmen. Was lovely too, but the recent trip advisor reviews made it seem like it’d become a bit of a party hotel so we booked the Sensatori instead.
Love Mexico.

I went to a Sensatori in Turkey (I understand they’re all built in the same model) and thought it was brilliant. Definitely the type of hotel if you don’t want to leave the resort the whole time.

Went the GBR - very disappointed as the weather was too rough for diving so just snorkelled - its a long way out and i got seasick - Maldives far better (imo) with bigger fish and no things that are going to kill you - Uluru was very much worth the travel - Hanging rock also interesting !

No holidays for me this year. But going to France at least once every 2 months for 18 days to visit wife and kids. First house completes at about the 15th this month. Family moving in at end of month. Then wife will be looking for a home for us to spend the rest of our days in. Will have a few gites for income. Staying in England for just under 4 years then retiring. Then will come to England for our holidays.
33 degrees today where we are moving to. And cheap flights to Birmingham unless schools are on holiday. Can get them for £10 And £12 If booked early. Normally £22 is easy to get. So will be cheaper to get to games than it is where I live. So happy with that.

In any case, there is a lot more to New York than just skyscrapers.
For instance there are incredible museums and art galleries, and the theatre is as good as if not better than London.
Out on Long Island, there are even beautiful beaches.

Yep so was I but I'm having to get qualified all over again so right now its the local pool and Stoney Cove and I aint doing that in a wet suit even though i hate dry suit diving. So hanging in there till it's done then off to warmer waters again.
Where the best diving for you?

For big fish Mantas etc the Maldives was verygood but lots of current - Red Sea has much life and lovely clear water but Egypt and Eilat are godforsaken places - very much enjoyed St Lucia - good wrecks - did Bianca C off Grenada which was pretty technical but an achievement even if it was a short time at 30m - sort of lost my mojo for it now but would go again - as you know you can see as much at 10 - 18 m in some places - what about you ?
