I get your point. And if you’re wealthy enough to pick and choose, or if you’re skilled in other areas, this might fly. But I’ve been around too long. There’s a vast number of people that stay in shit jobs for the money. And there’s no fucking romanticism in that m8.

Realistically McNulty is going to have to take a pay cut at somepoint. So he's got two choices. Either he's going to make the decision that he wants to sit on his contract for the next 3 years and be loaned out to a number of clubs until he’s 30, or he’ll take the cut and settle at a club for a few years.

With regards to the loan route though. There’s nothing to say we couldn’t sign him on loan if that’s the route he chooses. At least then he wouldn’t have to take a pay cut. The only issue with that is it’ll all boil down to who’s able to cover as much of his salary as possible and there also could be a loan fee involved as well.

If he was to come back there would need to be a clause in his contract saying he gets no pay if his weight & BMI exceeds certain levels

Strange think with Telfer was that after his 2nd game for us in a midweek home game against Man City, when Isaias played a blinder (some will remember), Blackburn offered over double the money we had paid Luton for him that Summer. Big Ron turned it down!

Not sure about no talent either - I remember reading the 'Staying Up' book where the guy who wrote it was talking to the staff at CCFC, who all said he was one of our most natural footballers, in terms of the sweetness with which he struck the ball, and that when he kicked the ball it made a pinging sound, as he kicked it so cleanly.

Having said that I also found him a hugely disappointing player though. Perhaps his lack of interest in the game led to his fairly one dimensional playing style, where other than his running ability, he offered little in terms of doing anything better than the ordinary.

Was speaking to Strachan/Dublin not that long ago and they were both saying that he wasn’t the best footballer in the world but was the best teammate in the changing room and around Ryton?
Not sure what that means, probably was good at washing the kits and cleaning the bogs.

Would they loan him back if they'd only got him on a one year deal? Maybe the extension was triggered just to get some cash dollar from us in terms of a transfer fee. Although that's probably wishful thinking. Insert sad face here.

Why not? His tribunal fee would drop massively stuck in the U23s for a year as opposed to tearing up League One.

Not the end of it for me. I think they have took the option just to get compo if someone wanted him, he will never get in their first team the way they are going.

I just doubt we will stump up the cash to get him though (love to be proved wrong) or he could be sent here for another season on loan so we pay a loan fee and a percentage of his wages

Agree with this. Think they're going to try and get something low like £200k but with a 30% sell-on fee.

I think that is harsh and you're wrong. He wasn't a spectacular player by any stretch but was fairly reliable, and actually decent from set pieces.

When you look at players as an Asset this definitely seems the business way of doing it.. You know he is a wanted man so why let him leave for free! We just usually let them leave for free, but I suppose that is because they are usually not wanted by many!

With Bright being under 24 they would've been due compensation for him regardless, whether they believe they can get more from triggering a contract extension is to be seen.
