Twist and Shout (1 Viewer)

Did it annoy anyone else seeing Charlton rip off TnS this week?

With the way fans steal songs, I'm surprised it has taken this long for Twist and Shout to become one of those generic copied songs.

Both ourselves and West Ham have sung it for decades but now but Charlton, Pompey and now Motherwell sing it.

Shame really. Some of our young fans do the same with some horrendous songs.

Quite flattering really. Now, when they start singing LAST then I’ll be a bit angry then.

Surely Liverpool sung it before us? In Our Coventry homes is a Liverpool song as well (before any smart arse points it out....obviously not about us!)

This whole "You nicked our song" thing is cringey as fuck. Liverpool fans on Twitter constantly saying people stole Allez...it was a Napoli song! And the Bobby Firminho song was/is a River Plate song. Hate that the big clubs have so many "Twitter Fans" never been a game yet claim people nick songs...who gives any fucks? Definitely not people singing at the ground!

You do know it was a West Ham song before we copied it off them?

PUSB is our only original song. In fact if you dig deep enough into it you’ll probably find another team on the planet who use the same tune.

All the other generic chants are a bore fest and make me want to leave games. You’ll be sure to hear them all at 91 other grounds.

Indeed. Not exactly like we're famous for singin T&S like Liverpool are for YNWA or Leeds for marching on together etc.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t like seeing football players dancing around after they’ve won matches.
Celebrate when you score - yes.
Celebrate at the final whistle - yes.
Celebrate when you collect a trophy - yes.
Lap of honour - yes.
Dancing around like idiots/singing all the fans’ songs in the changing rooms/any more than 10 minutes after the final whistle - no.
Exception to the rule - Notts county away 2017/18 season.

Right. So what are you on about then?

You said LAST was an original tune. Another person pointed out how it wasn't original. You said "Yeah what about it?" Which implied whatis your point....I explained the point.

Make sense? Or do you need talking through it differently? If you do, I'm not sure how much clearer it can be made.

You make it sound like I think Jimmy Hill composed the actual Eton Boating Song. You’ve tied yourself in knots. It’s fine though, it’s late.

You're an odd fella you mate. You asked what someone meant...I explained it. It's only 9.27 here...

I asked what someone meant because they randomly named the tune that inspired PUSB - almost zero relevance to my original comment. 10 points for him, we all know what it’s called anyway. Now you’re questioning originality for no reason.

As in it's not orginal?

Is it a strange attempt at ambiguity?

Perish the thought anyone tried to create an atmosphere. Most songs are adapted from other teams and if they're catchy and it creates a good time for all then why not? I love all chants and even more that we finally have some for our players again. In the 80s almost every regular player had a song.

Why would you wanna dance around singing after a 2-1 loss? Unless of course... no he wouldn’t be referring to... no he couldn’t be... is he talking about... no... the 2-1 loss was a boring game so he couldn’t be talking about that one... hmmm... you are referring to the playoff? *scratches head*

Is there a chance that Charlton know this to be a song that CCFC fans sing, and thus sang it themselves to taunt Sunderland?

I'm guessing not as, if they really wanted to do that, they'd sing "Jimmy Hill's Charlton army" or some such thing....

As far as I’m aware no one has yet tried to steal the Cannon and Ball classic boys in blue
