don't forget Oggy can't work his "magic" on these two keepers, just have to hope Aled is up there with it

It’s really annoying that we have so many fans that write off new players who haven’t even played a single second for us yet.
Even if some players had poor games/seasons for other clubs it doesn’t always follow suit that it will automatically be the same for us.

Exciting summer we were told...let’s hope it picks up was hoping for the brum keeper tbh although we knew wages were an issue

Good job it’s still Spring then.

Why would you get yourself worked up about a player only the fans went on about?

Not sure how high everyone’s expectations were. We signed the first choice of a playoff team because they couldn’t afford to resign him. We got a number 2 who was probably cheap because, in case you haven’t noticed, league one teams don’t splash out huge money on highly rated keepers to be their backup. Not to mention, fuck knows what our budget looks like/will look like.

My mate who's a Womble supporter say he's the worst signing they ever made...and that his agent must be the best in the world to get a deal done...he drops the ball a lot, can't collect a cross, and when criticised tweeted 'you mugs pay my wages'.....EKK!!

Seems to have made himself a fans favourite when he was at Wimbledon!

We've signed one of the best CB's in the division, another that is touted to be a future Scottish international and a GK that was a part of a top 6 side last season? What were people genuinely expecting as the moaning is a bit bizarre to be honest?

It's weird, people get them all worked up and say things and then get annoyed when they don't happen.

There's somebody on another thread who was expecting a prem or championship keeper.

MR still has a budget to adhere to so why would he dedicate a chunk of it to a No.2? It's almost as if they believe the club has struck gold overnight. Granted Wilson might not be the most inspiring signing but what can you expect for a GK that's only likely to play in Checkatrade games or in the event that Marosi is injured?

Yeah I think I saw that. The issue is they take comments in CT articles from either MR or Badlan such as "it's going to be an exciting summer ahead" and automatically associate that with marquee signings galore, which is just obviously not the case at all.

Yeah but it means they can moan.

Same as when people invented ticket offers, got all excited, got angry when there wasn't one.

Yeah it's almost like they invent scenario's in their head and think that's exactly how it'll play out, and they couldn't be further from the mark.

Think I might've loosely defined 'delusion' then.

Good to see we're not writing the new signings off before a ball has been kicked.
Difficult not to be underwhelmed. looking at the Bradford replays Wilson looks to be charging around slightly witlessly. The Donny guy sounds like their version of Burge. So the quality level is exactly the same.
It may be that the difference between L1 and Championship keepers is the ability to command the area - Stockdale has that, even tho not first choice at Brum, Burge does not. So we just might have to live with it and hope that we have a good keeper for our level.
I did not expect Stockdale but was hoping for an upgrade

How do you know we haven't got an upgrade when you've never seen him play on a consistent basis. You discredited your own post by saying he sounds like Burge. Which proves my point that you've never seen him play or have any prior knowledge of his abilities. Goalkeepers who perform regularly at League One level will be playing in the Championship. Goalkeepers who drop down from the Championship will be on contracts that are way beyond our means or / and are likely to be in a downward trajectory in their careers. So surely we've got ourselves a great comprise? Young, decent size, experienced at this level and was a part of a play-off team last season. Whatever exceptions you had were clearly misguided.

It's already been stated several times that Marosi was deterred from coming off his line to catch crosses by the Doncaster coaches. Badlan stated this himself, and went onto say that he was actually quite domineering of his box, contrary to reviews from fans. Plus he's a good distributor of the ball. So, you'll find he's nothing like Burge.

Why would MR invest a proportion of a limited budget on a No.2. GK. Please expand on your logic behind that? Wilson is only likely to play in the event that Marosi is injured or sporadically in cup fixtures so he stays sharp. So, it makes sense that MR brings in a cheap replacement for LOB surely?

I don't know why you are underwhelmed, I'm excited. To sign someone who played for a team in playoffs and was offered a new deal I think is great business. Proof will ofcourse be in the pudding.

Wilson is better than O'Brien so that's an upgrade on the back up keeper and Marosi shares the strengths Burge had which was shot stopping but by the sounds of it has far superior distribution. How many times did burge kick it straight out for a throw in and immediately invite pressure on ourselves? Far too many. And the primary difference regarding set pieces is that Marosi was told to stay on line whereas Burge would occasionally come and miss. I think we have upgraded so I'm happy.

Burge was never the same after he got hit on the head with that puck at the blaze match.

Not to mention we have a new keeper coach, we have no idea how he is going to impact players so why don't everyone just wait and see

Marosi was only first choice because Lawlor was injured for most of the season. Doncaster did not meet his wage demands, that's completely different from them not being to afford him.

I think we should bear in mind these aren't last second panic signings so it's more likely that the recruitment team will have identified them as signings, which has to be a little more reliable than people online retrospectively looking for faults.

To be fair that's a fair point. At least getting them both in easy means we're not panic buying later on.
