Well that worked out well for him. Another George Thomas.

Not sure he’d even do the business at this level, still unproven.

These young lads need better advice
Going to a Premier League club may mean more money for a brief period but unless you're a special talent like Dele Alli it's a big step backwards as a footballer

Agents just want the upfront payment and the cut of a big contract. They couldn't care less if they're setting the players up for failure and ruining their careers.

I think bass could make it yet but will need to take a drop down to league one to kick start his career. Was he on big money with Everton?

And that’s the funny thing. By getting that ‘big’ early contract it effectively rules them out of getting a chunk of a proper big contract.

Dele Alli also had two years of first team football before he moved on.

Sambou believed he was better than he was. He thought he should've been playing first team football for us, and when it didn't happen he went to play for Everton Reserves. Ruined his own career from what I remember, certainly would've been further along now had he stayed.

I said at the time that it was ironic. How it turned out, in that season he left, he’d have ended up being given an opportunity in the first team in TM’s last season as he’d not managed to secure a goal scorer (which ultimately ended in our relegation). It could hVe been a very, very different career pathway & who knows what would have happened.

Well, that’s how it goes I guess...

It's very easy to sit here and say these young players shouldn't join big clubs when they're young.

I imagine it's very difficult to say no when you're a young lad being offered the chance to join a premier league club for more money.

Was it Mowbray that was manager at the time? Wanted him to stay and said he'd be in and around the first team the following season but he still left.

Pretty confident it was

He’d have ended up probably being the main striker that season where we didn’t win for the first 10 games

Very true - it’d be hard to turn down the wages on offer even in the U23s - it’d be life changing.

You also would regret it for years to come & you’d think, ‘what if’ & I think it’d haunt you if you then didn’t go on & make the grade.

Think if it was me I'd ask to be loaned out to get first team experience. Best of both worlds.

So he would have been good for us if he didn’t leave but because he did leave he’s shit and wouldn’t be good for us if we did sign him.
He could be class in league one I'd have him back

What League was he playing in? Let's not forget Josh Barrett was tearing up an under 23 League before he joined us on loan.

I’d forgotten all about him. Playing/not playing for aldershot now I see. Looked like he had skill but was essentially a barrel.

You couldn’t forget him as he was the proverbial tub of lard wallowing around the pitch - I think Robins must have had an off day or the scout was on a 10 Pinter

What's bigi up to?
Was talking to his cousin the other day and said that his biggest regret is that he went to Newcastle too early which was obvious to the majority of us.
Sambou’s dad works at our place and has indicated he wants to come back to Cov.

It's as if we are a backup plan they think they can fall back on

I live with an Everton fan and he thinks they’ll give him a new contract and he’ll be pushing first team. I always found it strange they didn’t send him out on loan, just played him in the u23’s. but it doesn’t sound like he’s done badly up there.

Spot on
His advisors did a great job
Alli had the choice of five or six Premier League clubs
It came down to Liverpool, who said he'd play for their U23's or Spurs who agreed to buy him in January and loan him back ahead of being in their first team squad for the following pre season
Alli stayed at MK to help them get promoted to the Championship

all depends on the player though. Norwich bought Maddison from us and loaned him back for the rest of the season. IMO Maddison never seemed committed to us from that point and merely used up a loan space in a squad which was insufficiently “ours” anyway. Team selection was made more awkward because we had to juggle the loansters and team spirit seemed (no idea if it actually was) to deteriorate at the same time.

Oh and Bigi was released by Hibs this week.
