At the end of the 2017/18 season, I'd only managed to get my sons to a handful of home games, as and when finances allowed alongside the joys of working alternate weekends, much to my eldest sons disappointment, although he understood (My eldest is 6 years old now and my youngest is 3). Week in, week out he'd ask me if Cov were playing at home, and if they were, could we go. Numerous times I had to let him down and it was really disheartening to see the sadness hit him if I couldn't afford to or was working.

In the February of that season, myself and the children's mum broke up, meaning I moved out of the family home. Money was tight, rent and bills had to be paid and so my hours went up where available. During the summer, my sons excitement for the start of this season was leading me to dread it because I knew I wouldn't be able to get him or his brother to very many games if any.

That's when I saw MildManneredJanitor's post regarding helping fellow CCFC fans. On a whim, I posted about my situation and my sons passion for the club. A short time later, I was contacted by MMJ who offered me and both of my sons full season tickets. I was completely gobsmacked yet elated. I kept the whole thing a secret from my kids, and when the post came with the season tickets, I just threw Harry (my eldest) his letter saying it was for him and I didn't know what it was. Nothing can explain the feeling when his face lit up as he realised what it was, and then I explained to him that it was you guys who enabled us to have them.

Throughout this season we have attended all but one home game on these tickets, creating massively important memories that I know both my sons and I will treasure for life. So I wanted to say thank you, from me as a Dad, who has been able to enjoy the highs and lows of the season with his children in hugely important father/son time. But also on behalf of my children, who have had an absolutely brilliant 9 months of football, and a wealth of memories to go with it.

To mmj, and everyone who chipped in, thank you so much. No words can express how grateful we are that you provided us with those tickets.

Great Post! Glad you made good use of them. Making memories with your kids is as important as it gets. Really hope any financial concerns you have get easier the majority of people are a breakup or job loss away from finding themselves in the same position.

What a lovely heartwarming story. When I hear stuff like this it makes me realise that maybe the world isn't quite the cynical, selfish corporate world I often believe it to be.

This is brilliant stuff. Hope you get plenty of games in next season.

The main thing for me here is the enthusiasm for CCFC from such a young boy, great to hear that.

He honestly lives and breathes the club. Whenever we walk up to the Ricoh tesco, as soon as he sees the ground he asks if we're playing there next year, every time. I have to keep him updated on all the transfers and loans, in and out. Every time I talk to him about Cov its a beautiful reminder of what the game is really about.

He's a pretty good keeper as well, out of his own choice. So if anyone knows of any under 7's teams who need a goalkeeper for next season let me know!

What a brilliant story!

That’s the great side of football-building positive dad and son relationships, Good Samaritan skyblue supporters (You are just brilliant MMJ & others) and creating a new generation of sky blues for the future.

I am sure there are many on here who support City because of a parent taking them to their first game and getting the bug!

I wonder if the Club could do something to encourage more Dad (or Mum) and kids to get to the game-am sure there are many more supporters in exactly the same situation.

My mum (bless her) started taking me to HR in the 70s after my dad died when I was very young. She hates football!

It would be a fantastic if the club could ‘gift’ some family STs to those most in need. It’d be a wonderful thing to do. Maybe they already do, I’m not sure.

The club did do bits to help out just found this in the original thread "Senior individuals at the club contacted me today and confirmed that they would honour the early bird prices. This would be from £299 for an adult and the £25 if a junior JSB. They have also generously offered to provide an additional ST and JSB package to whatever we can raise and fund."

LG, I know you and others travel a fair way to home games.
What happens with your ST if you can't make it?
Was wondering if there was something that could be set up where STs that aren't going to be used for a game could go to someone who struggles to go.
It obviously doesn't just apply to people who travel a distance. Missed a couple of games myself this season, though gave my ticket away for the day.

Perhaps the club could ask a local charity of food bank to nominate parents and children who are struggling as the recipients?

I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. Problem in my case is that sometimes I don't know if I can make it or not till the last minute. It would work if the club were happy to have a ticket exchange scheme set up where I log a person's name to take the ticket and they take a code up to ticket office and get a paper ticket.

I doubt the club would want to get involved as it is probably open to abuse.

if you, for example, informed the club you weren't going they could print a paper ticket for collection fot the nominated person to pick up, same as if you forget your ST.
Its just the guts of an idea, I realise it would need a lot of sorting out.
As you say, for the likes of yourself who often doesn't know until the last minute if you're going probably not feasible.

That’s an absolutely fantastic story and I’m so glad you and your kids had such an opportunity for never to be forgotten moments. They will talk about that your years when they are older!!
