Just f*ck off Burge! (1 Viewer)

I’m not doubting you specifically, and I’m not saying Burge is the new de Gea, but do you actually know that is true? I mean, have you actually gone through the goal we’ve scored and checked out the opposition keeper’s role in that goal? It’s a serious question because we all watch burge with our sky blue specs on and judge every mistake, but when it is the opposition team we tend to think it was our player’s brilliance that was the main factor.

Personally don’t think Burge (L2 goalkeeper of the season 2017-18) is anywhere near as bad as some make out (we’re in league 1 let’s not forget), and I think our fans have made their minds up, so new keeper is best for both parties.

I just think he’ll go on to at least the same level and maybe higher in the future.

I’ve been wrong (once) before
He won’t. Lee Burge does not have a football brain. He is good at shot stopping, or as I will say in this case, reacting and not having time to properly think. However anytime he is required to think about something i.e coming or not coming for a cross or clearing the ball played back to him quickly he is utter dog shite. And heavens forbid he talk to his defence, they never know if he is coming or not cause he doesn’t even shout to say he is claiming the ball.
Now I know people keep on going on about Stockdale and I know he is obviously a class above, however the one game he played for us at home I took the missus to that game and she commented half way through about who on earth was shouting at everyone during the game as we could hear it. I said it’s Stockdale.
There is no point however is bickering on here about it as he won’t be coming back, he has been a servant to this club and did well last year to help get us up so we thank him for that and move the fuck on cause there are a lot better out there.

The stats tell the story. Burge missed 6 league games this season. In those 6 games we kept 4 clean sheets and let in just 4 goals. In his 40 games we let in 50 with 7 clean sheets. So even O'Brien has a better goals per game ratio then Burge this season.

Other than Stockdale who is there to grab the number one shirt ? And I reckon we need a number two also.

I'm absolutely certain you were not saying that after Burge's fantastic performances last season best exemplified at Notts County away resulting in us making it to Wembley. And other great performances in the first third of this season.

I could name many players over the past 10 seasons who clearly have had no commitment to this club who I have been very happy to see leave. Also applies to some of our managers - for example Reid and Coleman seemed to be more interested in knocking back the drinks vs. actually managing the club. Burge is well known for his commitment, is well liked in the dressing room and is a decent bloke who does not deserve this form of abuse.

I do not expect to see Burge playing for us next season which makes the personal abuse and the constant need for a scapegoat from some fans even more disappointing. It's classless.

Things have certainly now worked out for Burge in the final third of this season (we can all see that) but I for one wish him only the very best with his next club and hope he proves to be an absolute success.

I’m beginning to almost disagree with what I originally said. Robins should definitely go out shopping for another GK. I just think we could do better than Luke Thomas too. Burge certainly has made one too many mistakes now, too many to just shrug off. But I just can’t help think about all those golden chances that went begging for Thomas to finish. There’s at least 10 goals there. At least. Chaplin has missed a hatful of chances. As has Hiwula. It’s all contributed to what could have been an even better season.

Without our front scoring goals, that alone puts pressure on the back. In no way does that justify goalkeeping mistakes, however.

I am just totally against concentrating all the blame on Lee Burge. Even without his mistakes, our goals to chances ratio is far from deserving of play offs.
I dont think anyone has concentrated all the blame on Burge and generally accept if we had taken more of our chances we would have had a better points ratio but when a ball is crossed into our box it panics us in the crowd fuck knows what it does to his teamates. Lets face it he is not good at kicking, terrible usually on crosses, dont know when to come out of goal or stay put but he pulls off a few decent saves. If my maths are good I would say thats at least 75% poor in what a keepee should be decent at!!! Facts dont lie stats do...

I can’t remember any keepers making mistakes this season Burge how ever I lost count months back.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up without a club at Nuneaton
Wow that’s brilliant. No other keeper has been at fault for any goal we have scored this season. Bloody hell heard it all

4th: We conceded 3 more, scored 29 less

5th: We conceded 7 more, scored 26 less

6th: We conceded 4 less, scored 22 less

7th: We conceded 8 less, scored 17 less

6 out of the 8 figures above suggest Burge wasn’t the problem
really good point. facts eh, who needs 'em

Burge has never commanded his area and is average at best at the basics. He is not vocal at all which must make the defence think that they have to deal with every ball which in turn leads to confusion when he does come for crosses. When he punches its week and never gets distance plus his angles always look suspect. Saying that this is a higher level and all sportsman have to adapt to the level. Burge has failed too so has paid the price for his average season. Robins has too make cold decisions based on performance not sentiment that's his job and Burge has not been good enough to earn a contract. If he had who knows what we could have achieved. You can blame a certain amount of naivety on scoring goals down to the age of the forward line but Burge is older so should have improved by now! If he goes on to do better else where then we know that coaching is to blame but I personally think he has found his level.
