Oggy was the best goalkeeper in the world.

Best loan goalkeeper we had was Marton Fulop or Kasper Schmeichel.

Think he well and truly fell out with us and was very critical of Cov when he left, didn’t help his popularity with out fans at the time but that doesn’t take away his ability while here. He played behind some poor defences too
He was chased off the pitch last game of the season. He was leaving and we were playing West Ham whom he supported and was conducting the away fans, was also arguing with fans at the front of the old kop. Ran for his life at the end of the leaving all his bag in the goal. We lost 2 1 i think and 1 of ghe goals was his fault.

Kevin Pressman.

On a serious note, somebody said Kasper Schmeichel - next joke please! He may have made a name for himself since then, but when we had him he was young, perhaps experienced enough but, to the point, crap.

Another vote for Glazier. I still remember a save at Arsenal that was out of this world. May be somewhere on line as it was on match of the day. Got home too late to watch it.

Goalie trivia. Who was our only goalie to save a shot from the referee?

Us old 'uns will mostly favour the greats that we remember, and yes, my all time choice would be the fantastic Bill Glazier. Jim Blyth was okay, but I remember watching an international between England and Scotland. Blyth was the Scots keeper. I was really proud to see a city player on TV in an international match, but cringed when a defender rolled, yes rolled a back pass to him (you could back then), and he let it slip through his hands in into the goal! (I might try to find this on YouTube!)
HH your memory is probably better than mine but i always remember JB's Scotland debut was a friendly against Wales when that happened ?

You're memory is failing you Houch. The game was against Wales, and it didn't slip through his hands, in fact he had no chance of stopping it. The goal is on YouTube (scored by Willie Donachie - check it out). Blyth during this period was the best keeper I've seen play for us. The own goal, and the Scots prejudice at the time against English based players meant they preferred to play Alan Rough in the World Cup, who really wasn't fit to lace Blyth's boots.

He told those behind the goal he had let it in on purpose. Best keeper Glazier followed by Blyth and Matthews as for King just like Dracula could not deal with crosses.

You beat me to it. If he had saved that it would have been a worldy.
No takers on the trivia. The referee was the fan favorite Roger Kirkpatrick and it really happened. Anyone?

Yes. That's exactly how I remembered it. They both got slated for it but it was almost entirely Donachies fault.

My memory failed me years ago! Yep, I think you're right though. I'm getting too bloody old for this "past players" thingy! :emoji_confounded:

In my time Oggy.... Probably would've been Hedman if he could kick a ball straight. Kirkland and Westwood were also excellent, But played very few or no games for us at the highest level.

We have had a lot of good keepers over the years - Matthews (not that I ever saw him), Glazier, Blyth, Westwood, Kirkland, Bryan King, Sealey, Schmeichel, Oggy, Hedman - I think that its following on from these that makes the current keepers we have had look so poor. A good keeper is vital for a successful side - didn't Clough state that Shilton was worth 10 points a season?
He signed for City for about a season, sometime in the 90's. (Shilton, that is, not Cloughie!)

Let me throw in a forgotten name ...
John Filan, although he had his best years with Blackburn and Wigan.

But was he a good goalkeeper that’s the question and he definitely was, not our best ever but certainly up there with the best. But I grant you he left on unsavoury and unprofessional terms.

Steven Bywater was class in his first stint on loan with us and I desperately wanted him to sign permanently at the time.

Clayton Ince anyone? Had a couple of absolutely outstanding games against us for Crewe at HR but woeful for us when we signed him.

Bill Glazier for me. Used to love watching him come out pre-game and smash the ball into the back of his own net, as if to say 'that's the last time today'.
Wonderful keeper.

He did used to hit the ball towards the goal, but almost invariably missed!

I remember reading an interview with him where this was brought up and he said "that's why I was never a forward".

For me, Bill Glazier.

Bill Glazier would have been my choice if he'd played for us in the 3rd tier, but league 1 in 1964 was the equivalent of the Premier league & BG joined when we were in the 2nd Division (Championship as it is now). I think I'm right, but I was only 10 at the time.
