In front of 44,000 expectant home fans, we tore apart the second best team in the league who had not been beaten at home this season.

It may have been 5-4 but 2 of the Sunderland goals were deflected and the third was a complete clanger from Burge. We bossed the game and the scoreline totally flattered Sunderland.

Fantastic character as well after being pegged back to 3-3.

Burge 6. Howler. But very calm and assured after that. Got to admire his mental resolve for coming back from those errors.

Sterling 7. Decent.
Hyam 9. Outstanding in every part of his game.
Davies 8. Solid.
Mason 7. Great engine. Good defensively. Distribution could be improved.

Thomas 7. Decent contribution. Hard working. Pace always creates problems.
Kelly 8. Dominated midfield again. Should be in the L1 team of the year.
Shipley 8. Covered lots of ground. Fantastic finish. Very tidy in possession until the final quarter. I like him in central midfield.

Hiwula 7. The combination of Hiwula/Bright/AB was stunning in the first half.
AB 8. Impressive in leading the line.
Bright 8. Fantastic finish. Exciting to watch.

Subs:
Wakefield 6. Great contribution for Chaplin's goal. Looks like a decent athlete and fast. But after the first cross gave the ball away far too much.
Chaplin 9. Stunning finish shortly after coming off the bench. Exciting to think what he could do next season.
Westbrooke - not on long enough to rate

SBA - fantastic. Take a bow lads.

Commentary team with a special mention to Nick Pickering - outstanding.

i Followed - just added some comments

Burge 4 - is there any chance we could get Stockdale next season?
Mason 8 - full of energy and determination
Davies 7 - not the easiest of matches but was generally OK - we missed Willis's pace
Hyam 7 - as above - covered well for Davies when he went forwards
Sterling 6 - not at his best
Kelly 7 - worked very hard to contain a tricky midfield
Shipley 8 - linked up play very well - better than recent performances from Bayliss
Thomas 5 - struggled a bit against their LB - appears to have lost some of his pace?
Bright 7 - they didn't know how to contain him when he had the ball
Hiwulla 6 - his usual patchy performance
Baka 7 - looked strong and good movement off the ball

Chaplin 7 - looked lively and took his goal really well
Wakefield 5 - tried hard, but quite a few poor passes

Shipley has a knack of scoring in the big games.
A nice talent to have.

Shipley must keep his place. Really showed Bayliss today what he should’ve been doing the last couple of months.
Naturally shippers is more of a centre mid than bayliss who for me is a number 10 yo have to have positional awareness there he doesn’t know how to track a man.

Wasn’t there today so can’t rate the performances. However, I will repeat what I said the other day that Shipley and Kelly can be a nice pairing in centre mid, giving our very promising front four more freedom to play. Not sure how the manager has persisted in playing both Shipley and Bayliss out of position for the vast majority of the season? Bayliss is too flimsy for a holding role, and Shipley doesn’t have enough flair to play wide.

Mind you, even when it was obvious weeks ago that Shipley was a decent central player, people were still giving him terrible ratings. If his shot had gone narrowly wide today and we’d lost by the odd goal, I dare say he’d still be getting the “non-league” comments tonight.

Burge flapped at a couple and a horrendous mistake to gift them a goal but steady after
Sterling, quiet game got beat few times has lost his earlier season spark
Davis stood firm
Hyam was great today covering Davis on numerous occasions
Mason got forward really well but his final ball isn't very good, he could have had a shot with the goal at his mercy but decided to put a powder puff cross in instead
Hiwula got a little lucky with his goal but at least he was there to score it
Kelly superb in midfield today by not having to do the work of 2 men
Shipley magnificent goal battled well in midfield but let himself down with over hit passes at times
Thomas seems to have lost a yard of pace and why the fuck won't he shoot???????
Bright as frustrating as he is at times he was fantastic in the early part of the game and scored a great goal
Baka actually battled well today great finish for his goal

Chaplin took his goal really really well if only he would play up front sometimes
Wakefield got an assist but then appeared to have no control of the ball after losing it on many occasions
Westbrooke never seen him touch the ball

Overall a great team performance so I give the collective a 9 for entertainment and 5 for trying to throw the game away defensively

Burge 6 Loses 1 for the cock up but held firm after that.
Mason 7 Played well but was part of a team that conceded 4-none his fault though.
Sterling 6 Lost his early season spark.
Davies 7 More than filled in for Willis.
Hyam 8 Got his toe in on lots of occasions-really composed aswell-is 8 again too high for 4 goals conceded?
Thomas 7 Started like a house on fire but faded as they came into it a bit more and was subbed-not sure if he was injured?
Kelly 8 Driving force in midfield.
Shipley 8 Is it his best position? Certainly seems so on that performance today, topped off with a good goal.
Hiwula 7 Played his part in a devastating first 35 and got his goal.
Bright 8 Unplayable first half, deserved his goal. Bit more frustrating 2nd half but man of the match for me.
Baka 7 Battled away well up top all game and got his goal aswell.

Subs-
Chaplin 8 Exactly what you want him to do-come on and score a goal!

Wakefield 6 Looked ok and had a hand in the goal.

Westbrook 5 Not really on long enough.

Robins 8 Bet he was fuming at half time but again, can’t fault his team selection/tactics/substitutions today.

Fans 5 The majority decent, spoiled by the bottle throwers from the top tier.

Although I like Shipley, think he looks good in the centre and had a good game his tracking for the their first was awful. Just wandered near the man, no pressure at all.

Shippers in his natural position.and playing better. Deserves an extended run there at least whilst Tom is out.

it did cross my mind that perhaps the reason Bright played so well was because of Shipley, any one else thing that?

Pleased to see Shipley given a go in the centre and even more pleased to see him take his opportunity and caps it off with a goal.

Nothing flashy about him just goes about his task for the team. Hopefully he can repeat the performance again if selected Friday and stake a regular claim giving MR something to think about as he sets about his summer business.

The ratings on here are much to kind on the defence. We conceded FOUR. Suspect had the score been 4-1 or 4-2 to Sunderland, those ratings for Hyam and Davies would have been a ;lot lower. In effect Bright, Baka and Hirwula bailed them out. Davies backed off their first goal and Hyam was too easily beaten in the air in the build up for their third. Only their last goal, which took a big deflection, I can't see off who, did not involve the City defence giving them a big helping hand. We were saved by theirs being even worse

Totally agree.. if he had put some effort in he would have probably stopped the cross coming in... said so at the time

What a brilliant game. At times we looked unstoppable going forward. Hopefully we can string a good run together to see the season out before we plunge into the unknown.

Burge - 5 Another error.
Sterling - 6
Hyam - 7 Did very well at times but then poorly at others. I really didn't enjoy his 2 passbacks to Burge that nearly ended in disaster.
Davies - 6 Similar to Hyam I think, difficult to mark much higher given we conceded 4.
Mason - 7 Some good stuff going forward and one or two good tackles.
Kelly - 7
Shipley - 7 Looks much more at home in the middle. Great strike for the goal, terrible tracking for Sunderland's first though.
Thomas - 7 Some good runs, great commitment and a good pass to Bakayoko.
Enobakhare - 9 Some absolutely fantastic turns and bits of skill, a goal and an assist. At other times he took some really frustrating decisions but overall he was such a threat.
Bakayoko - 8 linked up play well and took his chance.
Hiwula - 7 Bit quiet at times but linked superbly with the rest of the attack at other times. Lucky maybe with his goal but got in the right position for it.

Chaplin - 8 Took his chance brilliantly
Wakefield - 6 Picked Chaplin out but a couple of touches went badly wrong for him
Westbrook - Didn't see enough to rate him properly

Back in the real world after going to a game that defies logic! Some dicks with flares and bottles but majority of Cov fans added to a great atmosphere.
Burge 6 ... let them back into it with that flap
Mason 7 ... threat when going forward
Davies 9 ... started 2 of our 5 goals and kept Grigg quiet
Hyam 8 ... class act
Sterling 6 ... has been on the beach for last few weeks
Kelly 9 ... bossed midfield
Shipley 8 ... great strike
Thomas 6 ... see Sterling
Hiwulla 7 ... drifted in and out
Baka 8 ... always a threat... took goal well
Enobakhare 8 ... see Baka.

Chaplin 8 ... great finish
Wakefield 6 ... lot to learn

I would think Stiling & Thomas are F&^%ing knackered after have a whole season under their belts but bet you they will be on the bollox at the last game of the season as a decent farewell to us all. My biggest worry for them both is that they may get loaned out to Championship sides next season and get sporadic game time which will take them backwards. Thomas can be a world beater given coaching one to one with an experienced Striker Coach

Davies 9 and Hyam 8 when we conceded four? Two of their goals from deflections were because Davies turned his back on a shot
