We let ourselves down (1 Viewer)

I ended up falling out with a lot of people at the ground who were mocking him. Ended up getting heated because I couldn’t sit there and hear our own fans mocking our keeper. Real low point as a supporter hearing that last night effected me more than the result

Not justifying it. He's a professional footballer who can't kick a football consistently and we need an upgrade. But unless you've been living under a rock for well over a decade you will realise there is the square root of fuck all we can do about it in March. Confidence is a massive determiner of a performance... hence we win 5 on the bounce looking like world beaters before having a wobble and looking like Binley Under 5s C team. So not destroying his confidence in the short term is probably for the best in my opinion.

We have a goalkeeping coach do we not? He’s paid very well to be a shit keeper in a shit league, I don’t see why we should be so accepting of fundamental weaknesses.

Like when a professional striker can’t hit a barn door from point blank and the excuses come flying out.

Burge being further exposed as we dont have any target man. The style of football we play does not help him in the slightest.

There's a reason Robins hasn't offered him a contract.

Problem is with outfielders, is that they have other jobs. Not just scoring, but creating etc. The goalkeeper has one. Stop the ball going in the net.

It’s all well and good saying goalies make mistakes - they all do, problem is for me, Going into every game thinking Burge is due a fuck up.

I think last night was the straw the broke the camels back. He does it too often

At least he cleared the ball and didn’t play an assist

Burge has been cheating for 150 games by pretending he’s a goalkeeper

I'd love to know if you'd be so vitriolic in real life? Yes he's had some howlers, but so have some others. He's also had some really good games. He may now have shot himself in the foot with his contract stance, as I'm not convinced he'll end up at a higher level team/or even be first choice.

The problem for me is that while he's a good shot stopper and has produced some outstanding saves almost instinctively , the problem is that when he has time to make a decision he all too often choses the wrong one. The more time he has to think the worse it is.
But jeering him during the game is wrong.

Wow! The humour on this thread is amazing. Actually it’s juvenile as well as vindictive. It’s a sad day when some our fans would be pleased to see one of our players destroyed.

Either that or some people would rather make light of the situation rather than whine like a little bitch about everything. Take a deep breath and go and change your tampon.

As I said above, we need a better keeper. Sadly, they don't grow them on trees at Ryton, so we either wait until the summer or get Dom Hyam to drive Burge to training in the hope he gets nobbled and we can get Stockdale back. In the meantime, Lee Burge with some confidence is better than Lee Burge with no confidence. And I suspect either version of Lee Burge is better than Addai.

If we want to progress as a club we need to let him go, he just isn’t good enough, unless you we want to stay at this level. This is even more the case now that he seems to have decided that he is better than us and can cut it in the Championship - hopefully he will be gone after this season.

Jeering your own player is the action of a retard.
Burge doesn’t fill me with confidence and I always worry when a ball is played back to him but he plays for Coventry City and Coventry City are our team - you must support the players in our own team surely?
I bet everyone on this forum has had a bad day at the office and made the odd mistake.
How would you feel if everyone at work all stood up together and started slagging you off and jeering at you?
The guy is a person like the rest of us - just trying to do his best - he had a lapse of concentration and that’s not a hanging offence is it?
