We let ourselves down (1 Viewer)

Burge made a terrible clearance today, and did not have a good game. That much is obvious to everyone who went. But why do so many fans feel the need to make ironic cheers etc? Do they really think it's helping anyone? We're all fed up with the off-pitch situation, and there was a real tense atmosphere in the ground today, but I think we let ourselves down as fans when we do that. Keep the vitriol for those who deserve it, and support the players. Who'd want to play for a team with fans like that? We can be so much better than this.

I thought our supporters, particularly in the first half, were brilliant.
Jeering Burge isn't going to help his confidence but I suspect the Burton fans did enough of that to cover over some of the same from our fans.

Agree somewhat, but you can’t keep praising players for bad performances. Otherwise bad performances will become acceptable
I agree you can't praise him, he was terrible today and we need a better keeper to progress. But did people really think he'd magically play better being heckled? Do we really think destroying his confidence is going to help the team? Let's be honest, Addai isn't the answer and so Burge is the best we have until the summer at least.

The Burton fans were obviously going to do that, as we would to an opposition's keeper. But I was shocked with how many of our fans did the same.

All the bloke needs is confidence.

Not consistent basic goalkeeping techniques then m8 ?
As I said above, we need a better keeper. Sadly, they don't grow them on trees at Ryton, so we either wait until the summer or get Dom Hyam to drive Burge to training in the hope he gets nobbled and we can get Stockdale back. In the meantime, Lee Burge with some confidence is better than Lee Burge with no confidence. And I suspect either version of Lee Burge is better than Addai.

People have abused Burge when there have been less problems off the pitch.

Some supporters have never liked him. He's the scapegoat.

Does the bloke starting the cheat chant to their keeper feel let down? He shouldn't, I bet he's still shouting it now!

Ruble Gee is an anagram of Lee Burge. Loosely translated from its native gaelic language means "oh bollocks"

There's only so much you can take. When you pay good money and hours of your life to be let down by the same person over and over again you're going to snap eventually. He's not good enough, I don't care if it pisses him/Robins/his teammates/other fans off. He needs to be out.

No different to Luke Thomas missing a hatful everyday. He gets no criticism.
Absolutely spot on. From the minute he gets the ball you know he will run into 3 defenders. His decision making at the critical moment is woeful. Burge is frustrating because he can be poor and at times outstanding. Thomas is becoming consistently ineffective.

I hardly ever blame the ref. Though he was very inconsistent today. That keeper was just a blatant cheat and tried to get Hiwula booked for not challenging him. Cheeeeeaaaaatttt

Really tired of this cliched 'lack of confidence' remark to justify shit individual displays. It's hardly like the Ricoh is a cauldron of noise and intimidation.

1. Don't make insane runs out of goal

2. Learn how to kick

3. Communicate with the back 4

Not justifying it. He's a professional footballer who can't kick a football consistently and we need an upgrade. But unless you've been living under a rock for well over a decade you will realise there is the square root of fuck all we can do about it in March. Confidence is a massive determiner of a performance... hence we win 5 on the bounce looking like world beaters before having a wobble and looking like Binley Under 5s C team. So not destroying his confidence in the short term is probably for the best in my opinion.

At least he cleared the ball and didn’t play an assist

Burge has been cheating for 150 games by pretending he’s a goalkeeper
