I-heard the game so it’s best all round I’ll refrain from submitting any ratings for anyone just yet as I was reliant on CWR describing who did what or didn’t....

I’ll await the match on I-Follow tomorrow afternoon for a more accurate insight.

Burge 6 - largely untroubled but was up to everything asked of him

Sterling 6.5 - solid but been quieter going forward if late

Hyam 8 - quality

Willis 8 - as above

Mason 8 - probably his best game in a city shirt

Bayliss 6.5 - flashes of brilliance but still a bit too sloppy

Kelly 9 - man of the match for me

Shipley 6 - understand why the change was made but not sure he did enough to warrant it in hindsight

Hiwula 7 - quality moments, but frustrating

Enobakhare 8 - he’s got quality you don’t see in league one very often

Bakayoko 6 - did pretty well but wasn’t involved a whole lot

Thomas 6 - added some energy to the performance.

Thought as a team we were solid and largely untroubled.

If you listened to the game with Clive commentating you have no chance of understanding what’s going on! We seem to still have George Thomas playing for us and apparently we have a player who wears the 6 shirt who’s called Bayliss!

Don’t score from what you heard on CWR as you will be giving JCH man of the match:joyful::joyful:

Burge - 5.5 did ok apart from one first half moment when he changed his mind twice abt coming for a high punt into the penalty box

Sterling -6 good solid performance
Mason -6.5 mostly good. A couple of desperate lunges in first half
Hyam 6.5 solid.
Willis 6.5 solid. Btw two of them handled billy Kee really well

Kelly - 7.5 mom. His recent form has made the signing of Meyler look unnecessary.
Baylis 6.5 promising in parts. Drifted out of game a little too much in first half
Enobakhare -6 unpopular opinion but I thought he was a real problem today. Slowed the game far too often and allowed countless opportunities to fizzle out. I would have subbed him at half time. Then he scored a great goal and managed to do some really nice things. He’s still more interested in the showboat than the game but he did redeem himself today.
Shipley - 5 largely ineffective I’ve afraid. The game was crying out for someone to take on Accrington today. We didn’t do that until Thomas was on
Hiwula - 6. Some good moments, some dithering. Scored what looked like a great goal to me but disallowed as Enobakhare has apparently taken it out of play before crossing.
Bakayoko- 6.5. Put in a lot of effort today and won far more against the Acc centre halves than we had a right to expect. Held the ball up and laid it off quite well. Was never going to create a scoring opportunity.

Thomas 6.5. Gave us an option in second half that we desperately lacked in a piss poor first half.

Overall. accrington were poor. We should have won at a canter. Decent result but was never comfortable. First half was really unpleasant to watch. Second half much better and our fans going into bizarre chanting mode (10 mins of “Go for it city” 15 plus of the new Hiwula chant) gave the game and our players some impetus.

Loo same here I didn't go. Listened on radio which is more nerve racking than being there.
Funny how even I'm tempted to give ratings after listening on radio. Which would be just wrong!

.... might explain why some weeks our no 20 gets a slightly generous score.

I’ll only pass opinion on ratings if I’ve seen the game. You cannot form a option judged on someone else’s eyes.

Burge 5.5?

Clean sheet in a team win? Wow!

I wasn’t there but that surprises me.

We’re in Division 3. If players genuinely put in 9/10 performances they’d be in the Prem. my motm got a 7.5

He had very little to do but did most things ok. There was a horrendous moment of indecision in the first half for which I docked him half a point.

Burge 7
Sterling 7
Mason 7 (very good second half)
Willis 7 (best centre half in this league imo)
Hyam 7
Kelly 7
Bayliss 7
Bright 7 (better second half)
Shipley 6
Hiwula 7
Bakayoko 7

Subs
Thomas 7

All round good. We offered little first half without ever looking much like conceding. Stepped it up second half and ran out deserved winners. Considering the tactical schooling we got from them twice last year it's nice to see how we've progressed

Burge 6.5: did all the basics right. Kicked well with the wind first half. One dithering moment but for me he made the right decision in the end and didn’t come. Not really tested.

Sterling 6.5: solid but largely quiet. Great that the best prospect in the team can get away with an avg performance.

Willis: 7.5: calm on and off the ball. Top performance.

Hyam: 8: didn’t put a foot wrong. He and Willis look a fantastic partnership at the minute.

Mason: 7: grew into game. A couple unsteady moments early on but the longer the game went on the more assured he looked.

Kelly 8: joint motm for me. Kept it all ticking over and looking more to play the ball forwards than he sometimes does. Covered Baylis well

Baylis 6.5: some great play and movement but the disappears for a while. Not his best game but the class is there.

Shipley 6.5: worked well. Not everything came off but showed his value to the squad. A couple of times he should have trusted himself to ‘burst’ fwd.

Bright 7: good in parts and a great finish for the goal. I’m sure robins is working on his decision making. A few times in similar position to goal but just held on to the ball too long. The player that at times can make you just look and wonder at his skill.

Hiwula 7: want to see him closer to Baka and anticipate flick ons. Some good control and some dithering when a shot or square ball were better options.

Baka 7: worked hard for the team without really getting opportunities himself. I’m warming to the lad. A couple times first half when he was especially isolated I wanted to see him bully the centre half and have the courage to go at him alone.

Sub
Thomas 6: offered pace when on but somehow he didn’t appear 100%...whether that’s attitude about being on the bench or he was carrying a knock I don’t know. Could have scored late on but for good save from keeper.

Manager
Robins got his tactics right. Nullified a team that has taught us lessons last season and at Ricoh this. I moan about the over cautious approach in first half but have to concede it was effective.

Accrington were very poor today and didn’t threaten even when behind. We controlled the game and can’t really remember them having a shot on target. The back four and Kelly kept their forwards very quiet.

And p.s. I felt the ball was out before crossed for what could have been the second.

After we scored we looked far more likely to get second rather than Accrington equalise.

Interesting game. We pretty much bossed it and I never once felt nervous once in front.

Mason always seems to get into great positions and today was alot better going forward. Is it coincidence he always is the outlet and we never go down sterling's side? We always go left but it works atm

Kelly is just the boss. Wins headers, blocks, tackles, simple passes, outrageous 60 yard cross field balls pinpoint. Said it before, the unsung hero from last season.

Bright... I mean that goal is ridiculous. The skill, trickery and finish. I've only marked 7 because he honestly could have had another 2 identical goals but he tried to beat the extra man. It was so frustrating and yet clearly he's far too good for this division. I just hope he starts pulling the trigger earlier.
Good win, clean sheet, didn't get too wet, no burgers though ffs

You’re doing it as relative to the whole football league structure then! Nobody’s ever done that in their life! Player ratings are usually done relative to the standard of football that team plays at. I’m not going to compare Bayliss to Ozil and be like nah, not as good, so he’ll get a 6 here!

This just proves your lack of football knowledge. Ratings are relative, hence based on the level you play. From your comment a Sunday morning footballer will only ever score 1/10.

Did you go..?..

I didn't go, or watch the game on stream, or listen to it on the radio. I didn't even glance at the updates on the BBC website:

Burge 7 - not much to do
Sterling 7.5 - an extra point for the bicycle kick - the first bicycle kick I've ever imagined from just inside our own half whilst under no pressure.
Mason 9 (MOTM) - an exciting display of tricks that had the crowd gasping
Hyam 3 - poor today, and loses a point for conceding the penalty
Willis 6 - running around trying to cover for Hyam
Shipley 6 - not much to do
Kelly 7 - solid
Bayliss 7 - all over the park.
Bright 5 - did he do anything all game?
Hiwula 7.5 - read Sterling's bicycle kick well
Baka 10 - not much to do today but solid

Robins 1 - What possessed him to think it was a good idea to start with every single player on the left wing? They were able to bypass our entire team by playing on their left side of the pitch and score 15 easy goals until he changed the formation.

EDIT: All ratings provided using using the internationally accepted FRM (Football Ratings Model), which is calibrated by Jimmy Husband's debut performance for Everton against Fulham in 1965 being a 5.
