where does it stand in the list of greatest gangster films ever?

For me, at No 3. In behind the Godfather 1 & 2 and just pushing Goodfellas into fourth.

It's a very good film. But the longest film I've ever saw. Think it goes on for three hours and 45 minutes. Had to watch on two sittings.

Mean Streets is an underrated film.

The "St. Valentines Day Massacre" and "Bonnie and Clyde" (both from 1967) were excellent films.

it was originally 4hrs 29!! Leone was persuaded to edit it down.

Not on a par with the films mentioned in the op, but State of Grace (Sean Penn, Gary Oldman) is a decent gangster flick.

I like all the Scorcese genre really; Goodfellas, Casino, Mean Streets all good.

Not Scorcese but a Bronx Tale is decent as well.
I have the soundtrack from "A Bronx Tale". Some great stuff on there!

There's some decent gangster series on Netflix that I've been watching. I'll put titles up when I get round to it!
