Dropping one place is the start of dropping down the table, which is what I said.
A run of wins catapulted us up the table and a run of losses and draws will see us slip back down.

is it "really slipping down" though.

That's the way in these leagues, teams yoyo up and down, I would have taken where we are now at the start of the season if I'd been offered it. Just outside the play-offs on goal difference, more than happy with that.
Obviously there's things that need working on, but that is the same for every team in this league.

I thought they were trying to sell Marcus Maddison? Always looked decent when we played against them.

Ivan Toney seems like a bit of a handful as well!

Think a move to WBA ? fell through. Can't remember why. Toney came on as half time sub last game. Think they are good attacking, but suspect at the back. Really dislike Maddison(probably because he's talented and a tw*t) A notice in advance. We might lose on Friday. No meltdown needed. Lots of games to go!

A loss would be acceptable if Maddison gets a 2 footer while trying to keep the ball in the corner on the 89th minute?

He’s played a handful of games ffs! and I don’t think right back is his best or preferred position, give the bloke a break.
I'm not trying to put him down, I just think Grimmer is the better option, more experienced and was one of our best performers last season. He didn't play well on Saturday, but Thomson hasn't impressed massively either. And that was Grimmer's first league game back in ages, so let's give him a break too.

Grimmer was awful on Saturday, I only remember him winning the ball once. I would be more inclined to play Willis at RB and Thompson at CB, if Sterling and Davies are still out injured.

They weren't trying to sell him, I don't think anyway. He was put on the market because there was an 'agreement' made between club and player the season before last that if the Posh didn't get promoted MacAnothony would place him on the transfer list.

Another difficult game. We tend to play better if the opposition is better. With Sterling back hopefully and a fit Kelly in the side we will see a much stronger unified team.
Bayliss can venture further forward with Kelly in the middle. Chaplin will then get more service to play off the shoulder of the last defender.
Williss has be only so so lately and I would restore Davies along side Hyam. Jones to start on the bench again most likely adding pressure for Hiwula to perform.
If it pans out well we should win. If it ends up an average performance with some individual frustrations then we will be fortunate not to escape a defeat.
As I understand it MR's has issued the players a target for the next 5 games to maintain our progress and not let the opportunity slide by. We are in the playoff's (albeit 9th on goal difference) and a win against fellow promotion hopefuls would help cement the confidence again.
Changing the team around for cup games and one of two injuries coincided with a poor overall week. But it's one league defeat at Burton 0-1 and an own goal while playing out of sorts.
I don't think we will be out of sorts for this one...

Didn't Posh have a policy of making all of their players available at the end of every season (of course, if under contract, they try and milk the fee)

Very good business model they are for it. Worked well for them over the years

I do like the way the chairman operates

I agree, to an extent. However, season after season they have struggled to get out of this league. Whilst you cannot pinpoint their issues directly to this policy (as they've appointed some pretty average managers along the way) it's not out the question to suggest that it certainly hasn't helped their bid to get to the Championship. So you could argue that whilst their policy makes sense from a financial POV, consistently selling their best players to gain maximum profits has actually been counterproductive.

Couldn't disagree more in regards to their Chairman. Good businessman but he's an absolute clown

They've always had mediocre support, so I suppose the transfer policy is borne of necessity.

Without a doubt it is. Despite the fact they've earned nearly earned £30m in transfer fees in the past 10 years they're still hugely reliant on MacAnothony to pump money in. Hence why he brought in a co-investor in March. Without the transfer fees they'd haemorrhage money.

(According to Barry Fry transfer fees received is touching on £50m although i've always found him to be a complete bullshitter).

Try 451 / 433 with jones and Thomas wingers either side of Chaplin. Bayliss Doyle and ogogo or kelly midfield 3.
Could be crap could be perfect

They are far more savvy than we are in terms of selling players and maximizing their value. They managed to get £7.5m for Assombalonga at the same time we got £3m for Wilson. Their Chairman is passionate has his head screwed on in both business and football terms.

Let’s not forget we’ve played most teams on the top 6 and other in form teams like Southend.

Our fan base is particularly prone to exaggeration...

I’d be satisfied for a draw in this game, but with it being a home game, a win is doable.
I'm never satisfied with a draw

Whilst I’m not 100% sure on how long they’ve taken the stance of any player not engaging into a new deal coming into the 12 months they are placed on the transfer list. However under the ownership of the current chairman they’ve had 2 automatic promotions and also two top 6 finishes with one of those resulting in another promotion, so 3 promotions and the 2 relegations from the championship. That’s near as much success as in the entire history under him.

I like how open he is with the fans, they are aware of what’s happening within their club. I’m not sold on his social media interaction tho so that’s discounted from my thinking, as that’s not for me but he’s done good for the club.

I’ll go against the grain completely and accept the backlash as I like Steve Evans too. Yes he’s a clown, says and does things he shouldn’t but he’s a character who wants to win at all costs and backs his players to the hilt. Generally leaves a club in a far better stable condition than he takes them over in.
A poor mans Harry Redknapp.

The real selling spree started with Mackail-Smith I think which was in 2011, but MacAnthony has been chairman at the Posh for 12 years, so it could've been in place for longer.

True they've had a period of success but at League One and Two level, but is that really an accomplishment given the amount of income that has been generated from player sales and owner investment over the last decade? Peterborough year on year have one of the most competitive budgets in the league and yet they have had a number of failed promotion attempts and are now playing in their 6th consecutive season in League One. Why is this? In my eyes it boils down to two reasons. Abysmal manager appointments and high player turnover. The income he receives and, albeit generously, puts back into the club should place them in the automatic places at least once in the previous 5 seasons. Since their relegation they've finished: 6th, 9th, 13th, 11th and 9th. That's 6 consistent seasons in a row (including their relegation) where they've had disappointing seasons. Hence why IMO although his policy adds sustainability to the club on the financial front, at the same time it could actually be damaging it. Sometimes it's simply out of the clubs' control when a player wants to leave so it's wrong to suggest all of his star players have left due to his policy. But what he has done is set a precedent that the fans and players alike are now used to. Risky thing to do when you're trying to take a club up the leagues as IMO, it suggests the club lacks ambition - which players pick up on.

His social media antics border on the embarrassing and completely tarnish his reputation. He either lies about what the club are demanding for their own players, reveals confidential information about transfer dealings or claims that he's after every single player currently plying their trade in the EFL or lower.

I'm sure the lad will turn out good, but Thompson has been a liability on two occasions I've seen him and I don't believe he's really ready for first team football at all.

People suggesting he starts at CB really need to think this through a little bit more. You get found out a hell of a lot more at CB than you do almost anywhere else on the pitch (yes I am aware it is meant to be his desired position).

I'm not particularly confident about this game. I feel we are too toothless in attack, a bit average in midfield, and Davies is missing at the back (probably).

It’s hard to gauge the budget they have year after year, I’d imagine it’s very respectable for the league but they will never be anything more than a league one club in reality and if excelling being that yoyo club again between championship/L1.

If I recall right a lot of that success came under two spells with Darren Ferguson who like MR here seems the right fit so that appointment seemed to work, the others off the top of my head like Graham Westley, Grant McCann and Mark Cooper didn’t really work out the same as expectations hoped.

I think he’s this appointment right in a proven man, Steve Evans to try and kick them on again.

Well their budget is dependant on player sales and who is moved on for how much. But since 2011 they've sold Mackail-Smith to Brighton for £2.5m. Conor Washington for £2.7m to QPR. Britt Assombalonga was sold 11 months later to Nottingham Forest for an initial £5.5m. (They also had a respectable sell-on fee when he moved on to Middlesborough) Dwight Gayle was sold for what would eventually be £7.5m. Then last season I think they recieved around £6m for Edwards, Baldwin, Marriot, Da Silva and the rest of those transfer listed. So their budget for the past 5 years or so has definitely been sizeable.

But as I said, you could argue that because their budget is dependant on player sales, as a business model it isn't sustainable is because it's a risky approach to take and there'll inevitably be a season where they won't receive a big paycheck from a player sale. Which will then just result in a "now what" because without help from a big sale they lose money hand over mouth apparently - and they can't rely on MacAnothony to make up the loss because FFP will obviously restrict him from pumping money in. But regardless, I can safely say they work off a top 6 budget assuming the right fee comes in via the transfer market.

IMO all those names are cheap appointments or just the same old names on the EFL manager roundabout. So I do question MacAnthony's logic at times as if he's serious about getting the Posh out of League One why not go out and get a manager with the calibre of Nigel Clough or Kenny Jackett - basically a manager who knows how to get out of this league.

Id imagine they spread the generated income sensibly so not to create the boom or bust situation you often hear of.

I think he’s thought about that and this time gone with Steve Evans, a local man who him and Barry Fry know, a man who has the cv, and the experience to match the same ambition as where they are at and can sustain as a club.

I think they have to bridge around a £1.5 million loss every single year so that's probably the initial priority you'd hope.

Despite his faults Evans is a good manager at this level. He's got a good track record so you'd think they'd be a safe bet to be up there towards the end of the season. But this season is probably one of the most competitive seasons there's been in League One so it's not going to be easy. IMO I don't think they'll go up through the automatics as Sunderland and Portsmouth look unstoppable at the moment. So it'll probably boil down to the play-offs which as we know full well is a complete lottery.
