Doyle isn't babysitting anyone, it's a myth. He's not controlling anyone - watch him. All he does is bollock other people's bad passes and then proceed to hoof it out for a goal kick himself. He's on borrowed time because he's no longer leading by example.

I don't really buy that to be honest. There's no doubt his performances have been really terrible, but he does coach the other players and has some fear installed in them.

Whether that is enough to keep a place in the team is another question. I'm not sure it really is at the moment to be honest.

I do think some other midfielders are higher up the pecking order for a turn in being dropped though.

Time of goal killed us.

Tank was empty as soon as it went in.
Don't think MR was too off in his judgement based on 1st half. 2nd half we were spent after 10-15 mins.

Ageee some of the signings may not have totally been Robins’ decision, some of them were just pure odd particularly Bakayoko

The U23 signings also seem to be driven by the HOR as that’s not something we’ve done before. Thought if we wanted to do that we would have taken players from PL clubs who have been released rather than spend fees on players from non league

Robins was given a squad last year that was better than the rest of the division and we scraped the play offs with it. He's done great things off the pitch but on it he's so defensive that I can't see what his plan is to win games. He signed too many players and can't put a coherent team together or influence a game that is drifting away. Doyle is the player our team is built around but he's the reason this side will never be better than mid table. This season is boiling down to getting the kids a year in L1 and finding a replacement for Doyle going forward. Might be a winner in the long term but won't be fun to watch this year - there's just so much wrong with it. A right winger who can't pass or shoot, a snail paced DM undermining our attacking play, a talented youngster being asked to do the running for 2 in CM and a left midfielder who isn't really a left midfielder struggling to make an impact after a meteoric rise in the 1st team.
The signings so far that we have brought in this close season haven’t improved the squad at all. I question the recruitment and I’m not the only one saying this tonight.

So 11 games in which of Robin’s signings to turn us into a good League 1 side have been successful so far? Brandon Mason at a push?
Still hard to say. I know we said 10-15 games, but the fact is, we have still hardly seen the likes of Ogogo, Bakayoko, Brown and Hiwula yet.

Chaplin to me looks like he's going to be a good signing. Think once that first goal goes in (from open play) he will come good. I still have faith in Ogogo too.

We can blame our strikers to an extent missing the odd chance but for me the midfield is way way too weak, we need Kelly fit asap, Shipley is woeful atm Bayliss just a young kid with Doyle having to concemtrate on his game as well as his own and Thomas for a rapid attacking player not showing too much and when he does disappears before creating anything. Maybe Robin's needs to give Ogogo an extended run in the team IF he is fit and use Bayliss a little more sparingly. Doyle is coming in for a lot of stick and rightly so but is it because he alone is trying to carry the rest of the midfield instead of concentrating on his own game.
Hiwula had a chance at trying to impress last night and failed, Andreu also failed Jones come on looked bright on the left got switched to the right and disappeared..not sure what Robins game plans are but once again goals are sadly lacking and apart from hoping and praying Chaplin comes good they dont look as though things will improve greatly in the foreseeable future

Bayliss is the only one of the four central midfielders who can actually move with the ball to leave him out would be a disaster, If anybody should be left out it’s Doyle he has to be involved in everything and unfortunately he has little talent but the manager doesn’t have the balls to leave him out

Been to 3 home games now, Scunny, Plymouth and Portsmouth. So 2 goals, a free kick and a Pen ?! Not keen on Sterling, seems to look backwards all the time, Bayliss needs to play further up the pitch, Doyle needs shoving off some of the dead balls, Andreu has been poor apart from said free kick. Thomas has potential, needs beefing up a bit but he's only 19, JCH easy to mark. Jones looked different class but we are in danger of becoming too one dimensional. Not a lot of flow and balance all told

Yes he is the one outlet but is not firing this year imo maybe bring him on later to run at the opposition

Part of that is the quality of ball he receives also everybody knows if you stop him we have no clue going forward.

Wow the negativity on here anyone would have thought we had just lost 3-0 to the bottom side.
I thought it was a close game.
Admittedly our strike force is poor our midfield don't shoot but our defence looked pretty solid. Started off the same last season goals were rare but we came good. Like to think same will happen soon.
PUSB.
Yes we came good AFTER Andreu got injured. :emoji_thinking:

JCH & Chaplin are ok I feel JCH is playing well tonight & Saturday we have no creativity and I don’t know know why Thomas is a constant threat Bayliss is box to box centre mid hopefully Jones on the left left will bring us more creativity.Grimmer is a miss we need Him and mason back both full backs bombing on
To be fair was Sterling not ‘bombing’ on all evening last night?

What annoyed me about last night and other games is giving the ball away to easily. Throw ins, Free kicks and simple passing.

Its getting ridiculous these are all the basics for football and we can't do them right.

We had more possession than top of the table Pompey. Its L1 remember so mistakes are made by players.
I thought our ball retention was pretty good.

Spot on, left me feeling frustrated that professional footballers can't pass the ball to each other

Really? Retaining it out of play or to them? Passing it along the back when losing is misleading.

I think the annoying thing about last night is with a little more discipline at the back and cooler heads in front of goal, we could have won that. Only MHO (which to be honest doesn't count for much), but am assuming Pompy weren't trying very hard and are a better outfit than last night to be top of the league.

Didn't say we did anything with it. Just counter argument to us not being able to make a simple pass. Our players are technically able for this div.

I thought against Sunderland on Saturday, that our second half performance was really good. I still think that we will come good and will be one of the top 6 teams in the league. We can’t rest Doyle until either Kelly or Ogogo are fully fit, otherwise we become a pushover in midfield like we were in our last relegation season.

If everyone is fit, I would play 442. Burge, Grimmer, Willis, Hyam, Brown, Jones, Kelly, Doyle, Bayliss, Chaplin, JCH. I must admit I thought it was a foul out on our left wing in the build up to their goal. Oh and how the fuck theie right back wasn't sent off for persistent fouling is beyond me.
