Will Maddison be in the England Squad?? (1 Viewer)

I've a sneaking feeling that Southgate is looking at adding Maddison to the England Squad.
I think he is good enough and I'm hoping that CCFC have a clause in his sale contract to Norwich stating that we are going to get a sizable payment if he does make it and plays a game.

May not reach 73 pages right now but some bright spark will resurrect in the future when Madders eventually gets in the squad.
England U21's v Netherlands U21's at Carrow Road mext Thursday. Just maybe a chance he'll be in that team ???

He doesn't play for Norwich anymore so the only way we'll get any money is if they put a clause in his sale to Leicester, then we might get a percentage.

That’s a ‘no’ then...

He will get called up at some stage this year I don’t doubt

Alphabetical order over position, madness. The Cov twitter does similar, announcing the team in order of shirt number rather than any sense of formation. Game's gone, man

I suppose he's being loyal to a lot of players who got him to a Semi-Final. That said, we got there by luck and struggled to score from open play. The future is only as bright as the manager picking the squad.

Maddison has played 3 games in the prem and Wilson is still proving himself after injury while never having been capped. Not exactly unbelievable incompetence not to pick them is it. Calm your titties.

I agree, but for Maddison it's the fact he's creative and has started the season brightly. For Wilson, he's been on top form and been back from injury for a while. When you see Welbeck (who can't get a game), Loftus-Cheek (who can't get a game) and Lallana (a far more recent injury than Wilson) in the squad, it just reeks of chosing names rather than form, which is something that's plagued the national team for a decade or more. Let's hope the ex-City boys keep their form up and maybe get a chance next time round.

Shall I just close this thread so people can concentrate on the Chaplin one?
Why not just close every other thread entirely just leaving the Chaplin thread open?
That way we might get it to 100 pages by the weekend!

I'd agree with you if we were 10 games into the season but after 3 games he could just be picking players that aren't up to it, that's how Nugent ended up with a cap.

I don't really think you can fault Maddison not being selected and people like Loftus-Cheek being included. Yes he doesn't play for Chelsea, but let's not let our bias cloud judgement on a player that is very capable and Southgate has had an entire summer with and knows the quality he has. Also Maddison has had three games in the top flight, he will be called up soon enough no doubt, but say Grealish had got a move this summer and been included in this squad I'm sure everyone would be moaning saying 'What's he done to warrant a call up.' I think Wilson is more unlucky. With Vardy retiring, I would have thought he was next in line but evidently not

Surely easier to learn more about them if he picked them, Grealish is a very poor mans Maddison when he was deciding which country to play for I would have sent him a Republic of Ireland passport in the post

Welbeck over Wilson :stop:
It's that not playing for a big glamorous club syndrome .

Wilson would be an ideal replacement for Vardy.

Southgate has made a mistake in not giving Wilson a chance to see if he can play at international level.

More likely Calum Wilson if reports are to be believed.
Probably eventually, shoe in replacement for Vardy, Callum now has a 3 year track record of approx. 1 goal per 3 games in Premiership. Certainly worth a try out as an impact sub.

If he stays injury free he should get about 15 goals a season minimum

Just reading the live text of today's game and Maddison has obviously impressed. Newcastle fans commenting on him and calling on Southgate to call him up.
This stat was also on there:
  • Since the start of last season, no player has more league assists in the top four tiers than Leicester’s James Maddison (16), level with Kevin De Bruyne and Barry Douglas.

It's inevitable that Maddison will get called up at some point, probably once he has actually gained a bit more experience playing in the PL.

Wilson should have been called up but he doesn't play for a glamorous club.

I know the "he's one of our own" crowd love him, but he demonstrates the piss poor state of English football really doesn't he? 4 games in the PL and he's an England candidate. Players like Noel Whelan didn't get a look in!

Now Vardy has retired from international football, Wilson would be the ideal replacement.

Yeah let's forget all players that got us to semis!!!

Idiot

You are a prize twat aren’t you.

They got to the semis because the group was easy and they got goals from set pieces.

I read your rubbish on here and to be honest your knowledge of football could be written on the back of a postage stamp and a very small one at that.

If you didn’t replace players when better options come along the england said would be the same as the one in 1966 stick to talking about Tony Mowbray

So by your thinking Robins shouldn’t have replaced any of the side from last year.
