Yup. We are judging players based on a failing system.

At least give players a chance to shine in their natural positions and to their strengths.

Not really. Most of the forwards he’s signed have no pedigree as forwards.

We can't only judge on what they have done elsewhere.

If we only judge on what players did elsewhere there would be absolutely no need at all to bring in Bakayoko.

As the other thread says, square pegs in round holes.

I reserve the right to wait until we play to players' strengths before judging them.

I think there is a good player in Hiwula somewhere.

It's like when people moan about Bakayoko not winning headers. It was obvious within minutes he isn't a target man and it's not his strength because he needs it to feet or a workable height yet every time we aimlessly punt it forward it's his fault.

May as well moan that Ponticelli isn't scoring 50 yard screamers or winning headers from corners to score when that clearly isn't his game either. His game is finishing, so he needs to be put through on goal or get the ball at his feet in and around the area to get a shot off.

Same as at Oxford where our midfield got overrun all game.
Bakayoko doesn't win headers because he has no appetite to. He hid most of the time. If he doesn't want the ball lumped towards him he needs to show himself for a ball to feet or run into the channels, he did neither.

I’d go with that

If we played it to his feet I'd put Baka in for JCH but that removes any form of ariel threat and judging from previous performances we're unlikely not to hoof it. Not that JCH is a wizard in the air but anything is better than Baka.

Bang on, and although he's only made a small number of appearances he is living up to what Walsall fans views on him. I hope he goes on and turns into a world beater, but I just can't see it, and he looks very much like a panic signing.

Good point about the lack of movement up front. It's easy banging on about keeping it on the deck, but to do that you need players further forward to want the ball, keep moving & alternating positions, and at the moment we aren't really getting that. Regarding Saturday's game, like others I would like to see him go 2 up front & see JCH & Ponti played together, but I suspect Robins will stick with one up front for a while yet.

If he does he will be putting his head on the chopping block because we have lost 28 goals from last year and don't look like scoring that many as a team this year. The last time we lost 30 odd goals between a couple of player's we got relegated.

I bet you are the sort of fan who acts like this in defeats and win 3/4 on the bounce you’re thinking Champions league.

You’ve got valid points but it’s only 4 games...let’s see what unfolds. Go and have a big poo

Reckon Burge will be back in, whether or not I agree with that is another matter, but O’Brien really doesn’t seem to have done himself many favours. I’d like to see Grimmer back but seems Sterling is preferred. Although since we lack wide players could he not play in front of Grimmer? Was that tried in the cup game? Can’t recall if he played or where (albeit it clearly didn’t pay off!).
Would like to see a front two, and JCH and Hiwula seem the most likely to form a partnership, although I’d throw Ponti in there somewhere sometime, he’s got to get in the team when we’re not scoring, surely? What’s the worse that can happen? He fails too?

I get that Nick, but why log in again when I'm already logged in? Seems a long way about it? Ah well. Gives me something to do while I waste away my worthless time in retirement!

Because your browser probably doesn't remember, so just need to re-authenticate and tick the remember box.

Gills isn't a great place for Cov. I think it's one of the places we always struggle at. I'm hoping there's been some strong words from Robins since the last game and some big changes to get a result today. Even a draw is decent enough today.

Obviously this depends on who's fit but if all names on the team sheet are fit then:
---Burge---
Grimmer---Willis---Hyam---Mason
Bayliss---Ogogo---Kelly---Thomas
---JCH------Hiwula---

That's not a bad selection but I really don't like to see Bayliss stuck out wide, the problem is what team do you need to select to accommodate that?

Not sure if Burge is fit to start?

I would like to see at least Hiwula to start down the middle if Robins persists with his new formation. With Thomas and RA on either side of him and Bayliss supporting in the Number 10 role.

Burge (if fit)
Grimmer Willis Hyam Mason
Agogo Doyle
Bayliss
Thomas Hiwula RA

On my way to Gillingham now - word is that Burge will be starting today.

I agree entirely and tell him he's in for the next 5 games. Give him a decent go rather than the bits and piece game time he gets.

Any points here a bonus , a decent performance is for me more important , if the formation and tactics correct and the players apply some good football then the points will look after themselves
