Kick the ball upfield to someone who isn't good in the air, and makes Darren Huckerby look like an onside genius.

Or, I would prefer passing the ball to feet.

Another 140 miles eachway. This trip had better be better.

My first game of the season. Reading the Blackpool threads has got me filled with optimism :/

MR has a difficult decision ahead of him for this one. I assume Biamou is a mid-long term injury so that removes him from contention, but as I said in the Blackpool thread it's important that he mixes it up. Grimmer, JCH, and Allassani should be in contention to get on the bus to Gillingham.

Would like to see us try 532 as I think we have the players to play this formation and play it well

Grimmer Willis Davies Hyam brown
Bayliss Doyle ogogo
Biamou hiwulu

If biamou fit

Best of both worlds
Attack with 5 defend with 6
Grimmer and brown as wing backs getting forward

Luckily I'm busy this weekend. It might be advisable to avoid away games for the foreseeable future anyway

442 please

Burge
Grimmer Willis Davies Mason
Bayliss Andreu Doyle Allassani
Hiwula Biamou/JCH

Dont play Doyle & Ogogo together, Dont want Sterling, Brown, Baka or O'Brien near the starting XI after Oxford & Blackpool. Play Hiwula upfront, nowhere else.

I'll be absolutely amazed if he goes with a central midfield pairing of Doyle and Andreu.
Totally agree about Hiwula, give the lad a run in a central position.

Good thing is (well should be anyway) Robins knows it's not working, so I would expect a change in personnel and tactics.

Think Allassani might well get a look in and maybe, just maybe, we will go for 4-4-2.

We do have a big enough squad to change things round and hopefully Burge will be back in too.

I'm quietly confident, but then of course I wasn't there last night.

In the good old days pre 1960, all teams played the following formation, and it worked for Sky Blues. GK, RB LB, RH, CH, LH, OR, IR, CF, IL, OL or two full backs, three half backs and five forwards.

Is it me ? I know I’m old school but regards all these systems, 3-5-2, 3-4-2-1, 5-2-2-1 bullshit, and it is bullshit. Why not revert back to the old 2 fullbacks, 3 halfbacks an 5 forwards. Play two out and out wingers backed up by two good tough fullbacks, a hairy arsed centre half backed by a tough guy number 6 and a more cultured number 4, as said 2 wingers one right footed, one left footed, giving us pace and width which would pin opposition back, a schemer at number 10, a big ugly centre-forward and a goal scoring number 8. Simple team, simple tactics and let the opposition worry about you.

I would go with
Burge
Grimmer Willis Hyam Mason
Thomas Bayliss Ogogo Allassani
Andreu Hiwula

For all his talent I don't think Bayliss suits being a part of a midfield two at this moment in time, I think that's why you'll sooner see him on the wing than in the middle with one other.

He won't be able to burst forward as much as we've come to see whilst in a 442 simply because in the chance he loses the ball high up the pitch we'll be left terribly exposed. Maybe Robin's can see a little tactical naivety there in him so gives him that role in the more advanced areas where he can express himself more and make mistakes with possession.

If it were me I'd be brave and drop Bayliss for this weekend game coming up. He didn't impress me last night in an area of the pitch we had little to no link between defensive midfield and attack.

Burge
Sterling Willis Hyam Mason
Ogogo Kelly(if fit)
Thomas Andreu Allassani
Hiwula

play football ffs. look at the global game. those that pass do better, man freaking city

and before the money/technical argument comes into it bielsa has got leeds doing immeditley and mowbray did it with us too

wether he maintained it or not thats the type of footy that fans want to see, and it got us closest to championship, we need something similar

not the long ball to isolated striker bullshit

Where do you stand if you've got a good centre half available but his arse isn't hairy?

I'd go with that as well, agree on Bayliss. He was a bit Madderz like at times, turning for no reason etc

If we don't get a win from this, I think we'll be in serious trouble for the rest of the season. Early days to state this, I know, but it's a probability. Desperately need a good - no, GREAT - result if only for the morale of the team and to boost the fan's trust.

It's August! I think we need to calm down a bit guys.

Couldn't find a wheel of tactics so this will have to do.

I know we don't like our little friends up there in the north east so much, but could we do with Sunderland hammering Gillingham tonight and the Gills having 3 or 4 players sent off and another 8 injured?

I think it is the system rather than the players.

When things are this bad I think you need to go back to basics. We need to concentrate on keeping possession and simple passing. We need to work hard on our set pieces.

I think time is finally catching up with Doyle so we really could do with a fit Kelly. As much as I see the attraction of Bayliss down the middle he is too weak defensively. The midfield is key everything hangs off it.

I would like to see Hiwula up top. Away Bayliss just behind him. 4-4-1-1. It means a passing game and to feet.

I would like to see Allassani on the bench on Saturday. He hasn't done quite enough over 90 mins for place in the side. Nor has JCH.

It won't be fixed in one game but we need to start showing some intent. Overall my biggest disappointment isn't the lack of goals, I expected it to begin with post McNulty, but the lack of fitness levels.

No we really don't want Gillingham to get hammered. If anything we need a complacent Gillingham.

Nah not really mate not after the three away games, Wimbledon, Oxford and Blackpool the SBA faithfull just witnessed!

Really feel sorry for the thousands that have turned up and travelled hundreds of miles to watch and back the team.

I can see some positivity, which I’m clutching to that 5/10 min spell when Andreu and Hiwula linked up well before they scored 2nd goal. And cut out goalkeeping howlers. Clutching at straws as we have currently don’t just have one issue!

Really hoping we get a point here at least and score finally from open play.

Burge
Grimmer, Hyam, Willis, Brown
Thomas, Ogogu, Doyle, Shipley
Hiwula, Andreu

2-2

Lose this, and the next away game at Oxford away is already a relegation 6 pointer.

Noooooo! It's seriously not, mate. How can it be a relegation 6 pointer this early into the season?

By that logic, if we win on Saturday the next game after that may well be a play-off 6 pointer.

Andreu needs to start for a start. We aren’t doing much in the oppositions box so put 2 up front. Not one behind the other - two up top and have Thomas out on the wing.
Grimmer RB, Willis and Hyam CB. Jobs a goodun.
Need to keep Eaves quiet.
