I'm a bit underwhelmed by Ponticelli's progress.
Clearly the lad is a talented finisher from the goals he has scored in the U23s and occasionally for the 1st team, but he doesn't seem to have the confidence at the moment to be a 1st team player. He didn't seem to want to challenge today, maybe even looked frightened of them, despite WBA being a bit suspect at the back.

His all-round game has been very sloppy in the last two friendly games, albeit against superior opposition and at times not in his natural position, but he's at an age now where he should be pushing himself on to become a regular. I just can't see it, as much as I hope he proves me wrong. I think we should be looking to loan him out the moment we sign another striker, perhaps to a Conference team? If not I cant see him playing this season and fear he will disappear into oblivion... a few goals and he might have his tail up for the second half of the season (as we challenge for the title hopefully!)

Couldn’t get into a league two side and now being judged for a league one team, he needs a loan to conference or league two to develop

Played out of position , hard to tell. He is a linker type goal poacher for me , and being played in the number 10 position ( or deeper ) so far in pre-season... not sure what we are looking at with him really

Play him where he should be ( with max playing deeper and feeding him ) , or loan him out to someone who will

He needs to be loaned out, he’s not ready for League 1 football.

In that case we cant judge vincenti til he plays in the middle too. Ponticelli isnt yet good enough for this level.

Vincenti’s main position is right midfield that’s where he’s played the majority of his career and has played here

He’s played in the middle once for us and that was in the 3-0 win over Luton

I have always thought Ponticelli isn’t quite good enough yet for first team football. Every time I’ve seen him he hasn’t looked to be quite there.

Although I said that about George Thomas for years and then suddenly-boom! He turned into a hell of a player.

So Ponticelli must be doing something right in training. I don’t think he’s the answer to the McNulty gap but am sure will eventually come good.

Was Thomas 23 when he left? Ponti only 19(?) at mo-do plenty of time.

Thomas is only 21 now - he was 20 when he left

FFS. He lived in a trailer, and worked as a TV Detective while his house was being built. Give the bloke break m8.
That house took years to build, every week I tuned in, and he was still on the same line of bricks.
I just hope he dosnt take as long to turn into the kind of striker we know he should be.

I think if he’d played 2nd half as our striker he’d have probably impressed the service to strikers 1st half was

I didnt get carried away. Same as haynes. Was labelled by many on here as going on to huge things but clearly was never up to it.

I don’t remember anyone saying that, the calls for him to be in the first team were when we were as good as down. There was poster who was obsessed with him but nobody said he would go onto huge things iirc, it was more why not give him some game time if we’re down and our strikers aren’t scoring anyway

Lets not file him in the “Jack Finch” folder yet, wasn’t it around 21 years of age when Wilson came to the party?

I also think he has been played out of position. But aren’t we pinning all our hopes on signing another striker who is only a year older ?

Ponticelli wasn’t even at an acedmy at 18, Chaplin has made 100+ appearances... Age is just a number, experience is more important.

Thought that was Jim Rockford ?:p
Which is the winner out of the two due to the excellent theme tune by Mark Post!!
Not that it's important, but it was Mike Post. He also did the theme for Hill Street Blues
